The Chevrolet Suburban is a series of SUVs built by Chevrolet since the 1935 model year. The longest-used automobile nameplate in the world, the Chevrolet Suburban is currently in its twelfth generation, introduced for 2021. Beginning life as one of the first metal-bodied station wagons, the Suburban is the progenitor of the modern full-size SUV, combining a wagon-style body with the chassis and powertrain of a pickup truck. Alongside its Advance Design, Task Force, and C/K predecessors, the Chevrolet Silverado currently shares chassis and mechanical commonality with the Suburban and other trucks.

Traditionally one of the most profitable vehicles sold by General Motors, the Suburban has been marketed through both Chevrolet and GMC for nearly its entire production. Along sharing the Suburban name with Chevrolet, GMC has used several nameplates for the model line; since 2000, the division has marketed it as the GMC Yukon XL. Since 2003, Cadillac has marketed the Suburban as the Cadillac Escalade ESV. During the 1990s, GM Australia marketed right-hand drive Suburbans under the Holden brand.

.The Suburban is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Chile, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru, Philippines, and the Middle East (except Israel), while the Yukon XL is sold only in North America (exclusive to the United States, Canada, and Mexico) and the Middle East territories (except Israel).

A 2018 iSeeCars.com study identified the Chevrolet Suburban as the car that is driven the most each year. A 2019 iSeeCars.com study named the Chevrolet Suburban the second-ranked longest-lasting vehicle. In December 2019, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce unveiled a Hollywood Walk of Fame star for the Suburban, noting that the Suburban had been in "1,750 films and TV shows since 1952."

Common 2000 Chevrolet Suburban problems

The Chevrolet Suburban, a popular full-size SUV, has faced several common problems over the years, particularly in the 2000 model. This article will discuss these issues in detail, providing valuable information for potential buyers.

  • Faulty Gas Cap: If your Suburban is over 10 years old and has the original gas cap, it is advisable to replace it. A faulty gas cap can cause various issues, including the Check Engine Light coming on. This is an easy and inexpensive fix that can save you from more severe problems down the line.
  • Vapor Canister Purge Valve: The Vapor Canister Purge Valve, located on top of the engine, can cause issues if it fails. Replacing this part can help address the Check Engine Light and other related problems.
  • Vapor Canister Vent Valve: The Vapor Canister Vent Valve, located on the backside of the fuel tank, can also cause problems if it fails. This component consists of a solenoid and a filter, which may need to be replaced separately or as a kit with a new harness.
  • Vapor Canister: The Vapor Canister, located on the front side of the fuel tank, can also fail and cause issues. Replacing this component can help address the Check Engine Light and other related problems.
  • Driver Side Mirror: The driver side mirror in the 2000 Suburban can become hazy due to a leaked fluid between the layers of glass. Replacing the mirror with a one-wire heated mirror can solve this issue.
  • Window Regulators: The window regulators in the 2000 Suburban can fail, causing the windows not to work properly. Replacing the regulators can be an expensive repair, so it is recommended to do it yourself if possible.
  • Speakers and Subwoofer: The speakers and subwoofer in the 2000 Suburban can fail due to age, causing issues with the audio system. Replacing the speakers and subwoofer can help address these issues.
  • Parking Brake: The parking brake in the 2000 Suburban can fail due to a stretched-out cable. Adjusting the drum brake on the rear wheels can provide a short-term fix, but the cable will need to be replaced eventually.
  • Oil Leaks: Like any vehicle, the Suburban can develop oil leaks over time. Regular maintenance and inspections can help address these issues before they become more severe.

In conclusion, the Chevrolet Suburban, while a popular and capable full-size SUV, has faced several common problems, particularly in the 2000 model. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider the costs of repairs and maintenance before making a purchase. Regular maintenance and inspections can help address these issues before they become more severe, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

AS WE WERE CLOSE TO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND RIVER, MY HUSBAND HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO STOP THE CAR BY CRASHING INTO AN EMBANKMENT. GIVEN THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS A HORRIFIC CRASH. I'M STILL RECOVERING FROM MULTIPLE BROKEN BONES. MY SON HAD TO HAVE EXTENSIVE SURGERY ON HIS FACE. WE ARE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. IT APPEARS BRAKE FAILURE IN THIS AGE AND MODEL OF CHEVY IS NOT UNCOMMON AND THE COMPANY IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. HOW CAN THEY STAND ASIDE AND RISK SO MANY LIVES? ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THE CRASH, OUR CAR HAD PASSED ITS ANNUAL INSPECTION AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. NO BRAKES ISSUES WERE IDENTIFIED. BETWEEN THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL CHORES OF RECOVERING, IT HAS TAKEN ME THIS LONG TO GATHER THE ENERGY TO WRITE THIS COMPLAINT. OWNERS SHOULD BAND TOGETHER TO SUBMIT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. CHEVY NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. OUR FAMILY IS LUCKY TO BE HERE. WE WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER CHEVY VEHICLE AGAIN. *TR

Negative 2000 Chevrolet Suburban car reviews

Great vehicle to drive! I understand that burning 2-3 quarts of oil per 3000 miles concerns you, but Chevy says it is acceptable.

  2. Denis Willms 2024-01-19

I wouldn't recommend buying this car.

Positive 2000 Chevrolet Suburban car reviews

  1. Elmo Von 2024-11-11

Safe, comfortable driving for 2 years with absolutely no mechanical problems. Still runs like new at 25,000 miles. Great for hauling the kids, their friends, and their stuff. My wife originally wasn't too keen on the purchase (she's not a fan of station wagons) but she quickly became a big fan!

  2. Jerry Ferry 2024-10-11

I have owned four other 'Burbs, but this one is truly awesome. I drove 4000 miles in the first month and I should have bought it sooner. The brakes are excellent, unlike prior models, and the 6.0 is a pleasant surprise. It doesn't ride like a 3/4 ton, but it tows like a 1 ton. I love the dash and A/C vent layout, and the push button 4x4 is way cool. AutoTrac already kept me on track once. When towing an ElDorado on a car trailer in terrain ranging from 1500' to 6000', I averaged 10.5 mpg. With the five of us and luggage (nothing towed), I saw 14.5 mpg on flat land. These are real numbers, and I didn't spend time in the right lane. Besides, if you don't realize that bigger is safer and can't handle the gas bill, this isn't for you.

  3. Jack Osinski 2024-09-05

I had my suburban customized by Stillen and it was already great, but now it's even better! They added a 4th row of seats, 6 piston brakes, and more. It's a fantastic people hauler that can carry cargo, handle snowy roads, and take care of errands. Plus, it's very safe!

  4. Aron Rau 2024-08-19

While not quite as classic as our '55 Bel Air, this car is a fantastic family hauler. It comfortably fits 4 kids, 3 cats, and 1 dog, with plenty of room for groceries too. It's perfect for long trips, being roomy, comfortable, and reliable. I highly recommend it for big families with lots of activities.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2000 LT! It sounds like it's been a reliable and versatile vehicle for you, which is fantastic. Even with over 130k miles on it, it still drives like new - that's impressive! While it may not have the best gas mileage, it's definitely worth the sacrifice. It's great to hear that you also have a GMC Yukon XL Denali - both of these vehicles are truly top-notch. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!
