Chevrolet Ss problems
Super Sport, or SS, is the signature performance option package offered by Chevrolet on a limited number of its vehicles. All SS models come with distinctive "SS" markings on their exterior. The SS package was first made available for the 1961 Impala. Some of the other models bearing the SS badge include the Camaro, Chevelle, El Camino, Impala, Monte Carlo, Nova and Chevrolet Pickup Trucks. Current SS models are produced by the GM Performance Division.
General Motors Company's Australian subsidiary Holden offers SS models in its range of Holden Commodore sedans and sportwagons, and also in the Holden Ute range of two-door coupé utilities.
History
In December 1956, Chevrolet unveiled a show car based on the first generation (C1) Corvette called the Corvette Super Sport. In early 1957, the Chevrolet Corvette SS debuted — a custom built racing sports car that was the first Chevrolet to wear the SS badge.
In 1961, the SS "kit" (known as a sport and appearance package) was offered on any Impala for just $53.80. The package included Super Sport trim for both the interior and exterior, chassis reinforcements, stronger springs and shocks, power brakes, spinner wheel covers, and narrow-band whitewall tires. The car's dashboard received a Corvette style passenger hand bar and a steering column mounted 7000-rpm tachometer. Chevrolet built 491,000 Impalas that year and 453 had the SS package, of which 311 received the 348 cid and 142 received the 409 cid. Since 1994, the SS package has been used on a variety of GM vehicles, including pickup trucks, four-door sedans, and front wheel drive cars.
Both historically and today, the Super Sport package has typically included high-performance tires, heavy-duty suspension, and increased power, along with a variety of other performance and appearance upgrades.

Then the steering wheel stiffened up 2 times for a few seconds while I was driving. I looked into it and there was a recall before I purchased the vehicle and it was repaired also. But it is the same problem. I contacted the dealer ship but they said there’s no warranty on recalls. I did purchase the car from a used car dealership and still paying it. Car still isn’t running and seems like an expensive repair.

- Summary: Noticed a noise in the front suspension and took it in to dealership to get looked at. Dealership inspected and told me some internal component of the strut had failed and it wasn't operating correctly. I asked if I could just continue to drive it and they told me it could be a safety issue if I didn't get it fixed. My vehicle only has 39,000 miles and I found it very odd for this component to fail with such low mileage. After doing a little research, it turns out there are many reports of both the front and rear suspension components failing on these vehicle when they were not very old and had low mileage. I got it fixed and don't have the component in my possession. Dealership told me it was a safety issue. The component has not been inspected. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

- Summary: The ONstar module has very high idle power drain. As a result of this, my car battery died when not driven for a week, regardless of the condition/age of the battery. This has occured consistently since I bought the car new and has left me stranded on multiple occasions. This problem has been addressed in the 2015 model years of my car but the recall never applied to my 2014 car, which has the exact same battery drain issue (see SB-10057076-5170 and bulletin no. 14395). I just want the manufacturer to address this so I can get my car fixed without paying a ridiculous price.

- Summary: Right rear sealed wheel bearing failed and was just replaced at 50,564 miles at a cost of $1,142,82, parts, tax, and labor. I have seen correspondence from approximately 12 other owners of this model vehicle (12,500 imported to the USA by Chevrolet over 4 years), who have all experienced similar failure of front and/or rear bearings at 40-50k miles. These bearings reside in the knuckle assembly of the suspension system. Failure of these bearings can cause fires, accidents, and/or other more catastrophic damage. Fortunately, I noticed the noise of the failing bearing before any incident occurred. Sealed bearings, which cannot be serviced as regular "open" bearings are at intervals, should not fail so soon. Open bearings can easily last over 100k miles with regular service. It is unreasonable for owners to expect $4,000+ in seal replacement expense at such low mileage. Chevrolet should pay for these repairs and provide a better bearing unit.

- Summary: Collapsed lifter on cyl 6. Lifter tick / knock since 100,200 miles. Car has a warranty until 5/2026 or 171,000 miles and they refuse to honor it. Car has a steering issue. Two separate chevy dealerships unable to fix. vanderevere charged me 500-600 to fix NOTHING AT ALL. serpentini chevy charge me 500-600 and it was repaired for a few months problem is back. Serpentini quoted me 6,000 plus tax to fix my collasped lifter, and at that price its a full engine replace from what it looks like, which means the AFM lifter will fail eventually again and ill need to spend even more money. There is a class action lawsuit out on alot of v8 2007-2022 engines which can be found at (https://www.classaction.org/media/harrison-et-al-v-general-motors-llc.pdf) that the original class action lawsuit. I've also posted the class action lawsuit pdf, as well as what was said price wise by serpentini. Also posted are messages from the drone from jim butler kia dealership. Notice they try to use my oil changes as a way to deny liability, if u call AUL the place that issues the warranty, they cite modified parts (new headers mufflers etc) because they are new but not from GM so they are considered "modifications" and they were all placed on the car by the previous owner and is exactly the same as it was sold to me by jim butler kia. - Summary: My seatbelt cable broke on 8/9/2021. I put the belt on and as I was adjusting the belts, the belt/cable that is attached to the floor by driver side door broke. I took it to the Chevrolet dealership to get it fixed and I did see that there was a recall on my model, but my VIN wasn’t listed so the dealership was gonna charge me for the repair. My car has the same issue with the recall but they wanted to charge me to get it fixed even though it was a safety issue! It’s not my fault that the cable broke! It’s Chevrolets’! (NHTSA Recall 16V518) So I’ve been driving without a seatbelt now for 8 days. The dealership didn’t even sound concerned that I could have gone thru my windshield if I were in a wreck! Yes, they actually let me leave the dealership without a seatbelt! No more Chevrolets for me!

I think this car is great, but there are a few things that could be improved. For example, the cup holder can sometimes get in the way when shifting gears, especially with taller cups. Additionally, as someone over 55, I find that the car sits a bit too low to the ground, which can make it difficult to get in and out of at times. However, the programmable seats do help with this issue. Lastly, the A-frame pillar can occasionally obstruct the driver's view, which has almost caused me to have a couple of collisions. Despite these minor issues, this car is still my favorite of all time. It's an absolute joy to drive, with a great mix of power and luxury. It's a shame that 2017 is the last year for this model, but at least I'll be able to enjoy mine for as long as I want. I still get excited every time I hear that exhaust note when I start it up.
