Super Sport, or SS, is the signature performance option package offered by Chevrolet on a limited number of its vehicles. All SS models come with distinctive "SS" markings on their exterior. History
In December 1956, Chevrolet unveiled a show car based on the first generation (C1) Corvette called the Corvette Super Sport. In early 1957, the Chevrolet Corvette SS debuted — a custom built racing sports car that was the first Chevrolet to wear the SS badge.
In 1961, the SS "kit" (known as a sport and appearance package) was offered on any Impala for just $53.80. The package included Super Sport trim for both the interior and exterior, chassis reinforcements, stronger springs and shocks, power brakes, spinner wheel covers, and narrow-band whitewall tires. The car's dashboard received a Corvette style passenger hand bar and a steering column mounted 7000-rpm tachometer. Chevrolet built 491,000 Impalas that year and 453 had the SS package, of which 311 received the 348 cid and 142 received the 409 cid. Since 1994, the SS package has been used on a variety of GM vehicles, including pickup trucks, four-door sedans, and front wheel drive cars.
Both historically and today, the Super Sport package has typically included high-performance tires, heavy-duty suspension, and increased power, along with a variety of other performance and appearance upgrades.

- Summary: Noticed a noise in the front suspension and took it in to dealership to get looked at. Dealership inspected and told me some internal component of the strut had failed and it wasn't operating correctly. I asked if I could just continue to drive it and they told me it could be a safety issue if I didn't get it fixed. My vehicle only has 39,000 miles and I found it very odd for this component to fail with such low mileage. After doing a little research, it turns out there are many reports of both the front and rear suspension components failing on these vehicle when they were not very old and had low mileage. I got it fixed and don't have the component in my possession. Dealership told me it was a safety issue. The component has not been inspected. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT PARKED WELL ENOUGH OUT OF THE PATH OF TRAFFIC. I TURNED THE CAR ON SATURDAY AND IT SEEMED FINE, BUT I DIDN'T DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL TODAY (4/15) WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT DROVE WITHOUT PROBLEM TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THE CODE WAS FOR A STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. THE DEALER ALSO SAID I HAD ALREADY HAD THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE PERFORMED (17V382000) WHICH WAS FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AND CODE. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR IN AND AGAIN WAS TOLD HIGH PERFORMANCE CAR GOING TO SQUEAL. THIS TIME HOWEVER AFTER 2 WEEKS THE ROTORS WHERE BURNT AND THE PADS CHIPPED. FURIOUS WITH THE DEALER I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER LOCATION AND THEY HAD TO TURN THE ROTORS AND SAND THE PADS. THERE IS A DEFINITE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES ON THIS CAR AS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE 2014, 2015 AND 2016 MODELS HAVE THIS ISSUE. THE CAR STOPS FINE BUT MY CONCERN IS THE ROTORS. IF THIS CAR IS BURNING ROTORS UP EVERY 10000 MILES WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T CATCH IT? THE ROTORS CRACK POSSIBLY BREAKING LEAVING YOU WITH NO BRAKES. WILL HAPPEN WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION OR AT STOPLIGHT. SOMETIMES CYCLING IGNITION OFF/ON WILL CORRECT PROBLEM, SOMETIMES NOT. TWO EVENTS THIS OCCURRED AFTER ABOUT 20 MIN DRIVING, ONE EVENT IT OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER COLD START. ALWAYS GONE AT NEXT COLD START (AFTER SEVERAL HOURS SOAK). NO OBD CODE IS STORED DURING THESE EVENTS, (PENDING OR OTHERWISE) DESPITE IDLE SPEED FAR BEING OUT OF COMMANDED SPECIFICATION. ISSUE HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES, FIRST TIME WAS 11/10/17, MOST RECENT 04/24/18. HAVE VIDEO SHOWING ENGINE SPEED RACING 1000-2500 RPM WITH FOOT OFF THROTTLE, CAN PROVIDE IF NEEDED.

ALTHOUGH THERE IS A TEMPORARY FIX FOR THIS, CHEVROLET AT THIS TIME DOES NOT HAVE A PERMANENT FIX AND INFORMATION ABOUT A PERMANENT FIX IS NON-EXISTENT. THIS AFFECTS ME DIRECTLY AS I CAN NOT TRADE THE CAR IN ON ANOTHER VEHICLE SINCE A DEALERSHIP CANNOT LEGALLY SELL THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. THIS COMPLAINT IS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE AND TO ADDRESS IF THE TEMPORARY FIX IS SAFE ENOUGH TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE.
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

- Summary: THIS IS TO GO ALONG WITH THE GM#2031340 RECALL FOR THE SEATBELT TENSIONER CABLES. THE RECALL IS FOR THE OUTSIDE STEEL CABLE WHERE THE SEATBELT ATTACHES TO THE SEAT AND WARNS ABOUT ABRASIONS AGAINST THE TRIM AND CUTTING THE CABLE AND OR SLEEVE. I'M REPORTING THAT THE INSIDE SEATBELT CLIP ALSO HAS THIS PROBLEM AND IS ACTUALLY WORSE THEN WHAT THIS PREVIOUS RECALL IS FOR ME. ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BOTH OF THE SLEEVES ARE CUT FROM ABRASIONS AND RUBBING UP AGAINST THE TRIM WHICH IS AT A 90 ANGLE INSTEAD OF A GREATER ONE. IT HAS CUT HOLES IN THE SLEEVES AND NOW RUBS AGAINST THE CABLES. I BELIEVE BOTH SIDES OF THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED INSTEAD OF JUST THE 1 SIDE WHICH IS CURRENTLY RECALLED. AS STATED BEFORE THE CURRENT RECALL DOESN'T EFFECT MINE BECAUSE OF HOW MY SEATS ARE POSITIONED BUT WHAT I'M DESCRIBING IS THE SAME ISSUE AT THE OTHER SIDE AND IS CAUSING AN ISSUE AND CONCERN. - Summary: EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE I HAVE HAD SO MUCH FRAUD AND I EVEN IDENTITY THEFT IT HAS BEEN OVERWHELMING. ALL MY ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM AUTO DRAFT AND SOME HAVE HAD INFORMATION CHANGED SO I CANT LOG IN TO MY ACCOUNT. AN EXAMPLE IS BIRTHDAY CHANGED FROM 15TH TO 16TH. MY ICLOUD ACCOUNT WAS ALSO HACKED INTO AND THE PHONE NUMBER FOR 2 STEP VERIFICATION WAS CHANGED AND I LOST ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT AND APPLE COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW IT HAPPENED. ONE MONTH DATA WAS ADDED TO THE CAR AND FUNDS PULLED FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT THAT I DID NOT AUTHORIZE. ONSTAR REP SAID THAT ON THEIR END SHE COULDNT SEE WHERE MY ACCOUNT HAD BEEN CHARGED BUT MY BANK STATEMENT REFLECTED THE TRANSACTION. CREDIT HAS BEEN RUINED FROM COMPANIES RUNNING OUR CREDIT EVERY OTHER DAY AND LOANS REQUESTED THAT WE NEVER AUTHORIZED OR REQUESTED. I TOOK THE CAR INTO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A SCUFF REMOVED THAT WAS PROMISED BY SALES MAN AND WAITED OVER 1HR AND WHEN THEY RETURNED THE CAR IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS JUST WASHED AND MY FRONT BUMPER WAS MISALIGNED AND IT WASNT PRIOR TO RETURNING TO THE DEALERSHIP. OUR IPAD WAS ALSO TAKEN BY THE SALESMAN AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR AND IT WAS TRACKED TO BACK TO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX BUT THE DEALERSHIP DENIED THIS AND CLAIMED I HAD LEFT IT IN MY OLD CAR AND IT WAS FOUND AT 7PM THE NEXT DAY 24HRS LATER. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO DENIED THAT MY BUMPER HAD BEEN REMOVED DURING SERVICE EVEN THOUGH I SENT THEM PHOTOS SHOWING THE MANAGER. CONVENIENTLY THE DOT BOX IS RIGHT UNDER THE FRONT BUMPER ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE CAR THAT WAS MISALIGNED AFTER BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SCUFF THAT IS STILL ON MY BRAND NEW CAR THAT HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED IT FROM MAC HAIK CHEVROLET IN AUGUST 2O15. DEALERSHIP ALSO ADDED $3,000 WARRANTY TO INVOICE AFTER WE SIGNED BUT THAT WAS REFUNDED. PRESCRIPTION STOLEN ALSO AND POLICE REPORT FILED SAME DAY

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet SS and Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicles (PPV) that were previously repaired under NHTSA recall number 16V-518. The repair may not have been performed properly. The driver's seat belt tensioner cable may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.
- Consequence: If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to determine whether the new seat trim was installed and replace the trim as necessary. Dealers will also inspect and replace the pretensioner cable assembly, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2020. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Congratulations on owning a 2015 SS! It's amazing that you've driven 35,000 miles without any trouble. Chevy/Holden did an excellent job creating this car. You mentioned that you believe the SS is comparable to a Cadillac or a German car, but with less depreciation. It's great to hear that you plan on keeping it for many years. The SS is a perfect car for those who value comfort, performance, and a rear-wheel-drive four-door family sedan. The front and rear seats are spacious and comfortable, and the car's performance can be compared to the BMW m5. The brakes are outstanding, and the heads-up display and magnetic ride control are fantastic features. The SS is truly a sweetheart of a car. If you're looking for a car with gas mileage above 22 mpg, you may need to consider other options. It's unfortunate that the SS has been discontinued, but it's good to know that you'll be enjoying it for many years to come.

...& the only other reviewer's car is white too - drives like a smaller sports car in the twistys & a larger luxury car over bumps - won't buy another car w/out magnetic ride & heads up display - this modern sleeper is a wonderful long trip highway car that devours fuel - the 392 Hemi cars are a tick quicker & a bit faster, yet the SS is way more nimble & refined - roomy well finished leather/suede interior w/fake buckle holes in the comfortable front seats & slow to respond touchscreen - fit & finish are good & the paint resists chips - I like that I haven't seen another on the road - low production no bad boy understated sheet metal w/a bit much chrome - love the car, wonder about resale -

This is a fantastic car! I had a black one just like it and loved it very much, but unfortunately, I crashed it going 75 mph and totaled it. However, the car protected me and I didn't have a scratch on me. It was such a pleasure to drive and I'm really sorry to have lost it.

I really love my 15 SS! It's been running strong with no major problems. I've made some upgrades like the Rotofab cold air intake and Corsa exhaust, and I'm planning to install a pro charger once the warranty ends. I even managed to beat a 2020 Camaro SS with a 6 speed, not once but twice! I know it sounds funny, but I really love my 4-door Vett. This happened on 12/15/20.

I drove the first '15 at the dealer the day it came off the truck and fell in love with it at first sight/drive, especially because it was a 6-speed manual! I kept going round and round, but as a GM supplier, there were better deals on other cars, but none like this one - maybe the ATS-V + $25k. I didn't do anything. Then last week, I 'stumbled' upon information on the net about a GM 15% discount on selected '15 left-overs, and the SS was on the list. I went to my dealer's site and behold, the Heron White '15 was still there less 15%, + an additional discount because the owner had put 1,000 miles on the odometer - too good to be true?? Nope, what they advertised was the real cost - no gimmicks. One downside - automatic transmission. But for the kind of discount that I got, I can handle driving an automatic. I bought it!!! I've had it for less than a week, but I love driving it - can't wait to put lots more miles on it!! As a serious car person, I can tell you that you'd be hard-pressed to find a similar car in any price range, especially when you throw in the manual transmission option. This morning, I was on the Holden website and saw the sweet El Camino (us old folks can remember that name). And, somehow, GM needs to keep Holden alive - they've got too much bad history shutting down good divisions.
