1996 Chevrolet G25 problems
The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.
Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.
After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common 1996 Chevrolet G25 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the Chevrolet G25 1996, several common problems have been identified:
- Fuel Pump Issues: Owners have reported issues with the fuel pump, including failures and backfiring. Some have highlighted the use of aftermarket Chinese distributor caps and rotors that are prone to quick failure, leading to running on fewer cylinders. Additionally, there have been complaints about weak fuel pressure regulators causing leaks and backfires, potentially damaging the fuel injection system and intake manifold.
- Ignition Module and Distributor Problems: Complaints include issues with the ignition module, distributor, cap, rotor, and crank sensor. Owners have experienced problems with the distributor being made of plastic, leading to wear and wobbling, affecting the pick-up coil's contact. Replacing these components has been a common solution to resolve starting and running issues.
- Electrical Problems: Some owners have reported electrical issues such as no power to the fuel pump or injectors, dash lights not coming on when the key is turned, and intermittent starting problems. These issues could be related to faulty ignition modules, wiring problems, or worn-out components like the distributor.
- Crank and Cam Sensor Troubles: Complaints have surfaced regarding crank and cam sensors causing starting issues and power loss after running for a period. Replacing these sensors, along with plugs, has been suggested as a solution to address these problems.
- Catalytic Converter and Power Loss: Power loss after running for a while has been linked to potential catalytic converter issues. Owners have mentioned that this symptom could indicate problems with the catalytic converter, leading to a loss of power. Checking for issues with the catalytic converter has been recommended to address this issue.
These common problems reported by owners of the Chevrolet G25 1996 highlight a range of issues related to fuel delivery, ignition, electrical systems, and emission components. Addressing these problems promptly and accurately is crucial to ensure the smooth operation and longevity of the vehicle.
