2019 Hyundai Elantra problems
The Hyundai Elantra, also known as the Hyundai Avante (Korean: 현대 아반떼), is a compact car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1990. The Elantra was initially marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model; similarly, in other markets, the name Avante is not used due to its similarity with Audi's "Avant" designation, which is used for their line-up of station wagons. The name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001 (except in South Korea and Singapore).
First generation (J1; 1990)
The Elantra (codename J1) was launched in October 1990, and received a mid-term facelift in 1993.
It was sold in Europe from the spring of 1991. It replaced the somewhat larger on the outside Stellar, although that model had not been offered in many markets. The Elantra competed with the likes of the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier/Opel Vectra, but at a considerably lower price.
The Elantra was powered by a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 L (1595 cc) straight-four. This DOHC 16-valve 1.6 L unit produced 113 PS (83 kW) at 6000 rpm and could push the Elantra to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 9.5 seconds. The quarter-mile (0.4 km) run took 17.1 seconds and produced 129 km/h (80 mph). Top speed was 187 km/h (116 mph). The Elantra got 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km) in the city cycle. Starting in 1993 a Mitsubishi-designed 1.8 L (1836 cc) inline-four option was available; this unit produces 135 PS (99 kW) at 6000 rpm and replaced the twin-cam 1.6 in the home market.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-29
- VIN: 5NPD84LF2KH
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I am experiencing an issue where the O-rings in the engine are not preventing oil from entering the engine stated by a repair shop that took a look into issues where my engine would cut out while driving, lurching when downshifting. I believe this to be related to a current recall that is happening with 2019-22 model elantras. This poses a significant safety hazard to me and other drivers due to the engine cutting out while driving and prevents oil from being distributed in the engine without a warning light telling me that my oil pressure and oil level were low potentially causing a vehicle fire. I received a check engine light and not long after started to see my engine cut out, lurch and have a significant lack of power about 20 miles after the check engine light came on. My car currently is at 67k miles and mostly use it on the highway.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-02
- VIN: 5NPD84LF3KH
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Vehicle stalls when coming to a stop or light. Very reminiscent of recall [XXX], but when I called local dealership and Natl Hyundai Customer Service, I was told that the recall was not specific to my Vin Nbr. The vehicle stalls in traffic which is extremely dangerous and gives no engine light or OBD code. I have taken it to a few local mechanics and they cannot resolve the issue. They have changed parts that could possibly be the issue, but it solves nothing. The vehicle has 109,471 miles 2019 Elantra which is practically new still. I would like my Vin added to that recall so it can get fully checked out by Hyundai. Ive spent a few hundred dollars already and am tapped out, plus the stress of getting into an accident crosses my mind every day and worries me. Thank you. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-19
- VIN: KMHD84LF2KU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The vehicle has demonstrated a recurring and dangerous problem of stalling while in operation, without any warning indicators or lights. This fault has not only persisted but has also led to a near-collision incident, underlining its severity. The first occurrence of this issue was when my car stalled unexpectedly during regular driving, with no dashboard warning lights or indicators of a malfunction. After taking the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership, I was informed that the car was burning oil, which had spread throughout the engine. This diagnosis led to costly repairs amounting to $2,500. However, merely two months post-repair, the same problem reoccurred. The car stalled abruptly as I was merging onto a highway, nearly causing a severe accident. This incident was particularly alarming as it happened without any prior warning or indication of engine trouble. I emphasize that I have diligently maintained the vehicle, adhering to the recommended 3,000-mile oil change intervals and ensuring all fluids are regularly checked and replaced as necessary. The recurrence of this issue despite proper maintenance raises significant concerns about the reliability and safety of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra model.

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: I was going 40MPH when my car started to produce loud noises and stalled. It immediately lost power and I had to pull over on the side of the road. It started back up after 30 minutes and I was able to drive it home, but it continued to make loud noises and I had to drive very slow. Battery is good with 70% charge and the alternator is good.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2019 Hyundai Elantra. Although I had some issues with my previous Hyundai, I decided to give the brand another chance and purchased this car new. While I do appreciate its fuel efficiency, I have had some trouble with the seats being uncomfortable and the ride not being as smooth as I would like, despite having high-end tires. I have also had to have the steering column replaced and am currently dealing with a gas door that won't open. Additionally, my radio has been acting up while driving. Despite these issues, I still believe that Hyundai has some great options available. However, I would recommend doing your research and considering all of your options before making a purchase. Thanks for listening!

I would prefer to drive an old truck with a missing suspension than this car, which I find to be quite dull. Unfortunately, the 'Sport' modes are not very responsive, and the car's performance is even worse outside of those modes. While the lane assist does its job, it feels like a Tesla wannabe in the active assist mode. The interior plastics are of low quality, with plenty of fake carbon fiber and other materials that are supposed to make it look like a sports car, but it falls short. The infotainment system is the only redeeming feature, as it is responsive and works well. However, the suspension and steering cause the whole car to sway if you turn the wheel too quickly. Overall, if you do not enjoy driving or do not care about the feel of a car, this may be the right choice for you.

I still have this vehicle because it has a manual transmission, which has prevented thieves from stealing it. Unfortunately, I have had to pay for three broken side door windows and a busted steering column due to attempted thefts. Despite Hyundai's new free software update, carjackers were still able to break into my car. It would have been great if Hyundai had added an engine immobilizer or raised the MSRP slightly to prevent these issues. It's frustrating that they chose to cut costs instead of prioritizing their customers' safety. Due to these experiences, I have decided not to purchase, lease, or rent a Hyundai or Kia again. However, I must say that the 2019 Hyundai Elantra has a reliable engine and is a good value for the money. It's important to note that the suspension is quite rough and uncomfortable though.

The vehicle I purchased was not of the best quality and did not last long. Although it was the only option available to me at the dealership, I have had some issues with it that have caused me some frustration. While it is good on gas, the problems I have experienced have outweighed this benefit.

My 2010 Elantra Blue was unfortunately totaled by an uninsured motorist at a red light. Despite being a great car, I had to quickly find a replacement in the terrible market of Oct. 2021, with high prices and poor selection. I ultimately purchased a low-mileage Elantra SEL, which is a more complex and larger model than my previous one. While there were some issues with the halogen headlights, which required an invasive procedure to fix, I am confident in the factory repair and hope to avoid any future problems. Unfortunately, there is also a front-end noise on right turns that the dealer is hesitant to diagnose, but I remain optimistic that it can be resolved. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and believe in the quality of Hyundai vehicles.
