2007 Chevrolet Aveo problems
The Chevrolet Aveo (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is a five-passenger, front-drive subcompact car (B-segment) marketed by General Motors (GM) since 2002 over two generations. Originally developed by South Korean manufacturer Daewoo Motors and marketed as the Daewoo Kalos, the takeover of Daewoo by GM to form GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GMDAT) resulted in the car's marketing in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, ZAZ, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon and Suzuki) — prominently as the Aveo.
The second-generation Aveo, developed by GM Korea (formerly GMDAT), was introduced in 2011 and was also marketed as the Chevrolet Sonic in markets including the Americas, Japan, Middle East, South Africa and several Southeast Asian markets. Production of the second-generation model ended in October 2020.
Since 2017, GM marketed the Chinese market Chevrolet Sail sedan in Mexico and other Central American countries as the Aveo. Developed by GM PATAC in China and produced by joint venture SAIC-GM, it was positioned below the more advanced Sonic. In 2023, GM imported a new version to Mexico in a sedan and hatchback form, developed and manufactured by another Chinese joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling.

Common 2007 Chevrolet Aveo problems
The Chevrolet Aveo, produced between 2004 and 2011, has been known to have several common problems that affect its reliability. Based on complaints from owners, the following issues have been identified:
- Faulty Turn Signal Switch: The turn signals in the 2004-2009 and 2011 Chevrolet Aveo models may not work properly due to a faulty switch. This can cause the turn signals to stay on or off instead of blinking like they are supposed to. Some owners have reported trying to resolve this issue by replacing the switch, but it can still malfunction or fail frequently.
- Failing Ignition Coils: Ignition coils are known to fail in the Chevrolet Aveo, causing issues with starting the car or causing it to stall while driving. This can be a frustrating problem, as it can be difficult to diagnose and may require replacing multiple ignition coils to resolve.
- Transmission Problems: Transmission issues are common in the Chevrolet Aveo, with some owners reporting difficulty shifting gears. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out clutch components or issues with the transmission itself. In some cases, the transmission may need to be replaced entirely to resolve these issues.
- Broken Idler Pulley: The idler pulley, which helps to keep the engine's belts aligned, can break or wear out in the Chevrolet Aveo. This can cause a variety of issues, including noise from the engine and difficulty starting the car. Replacing the idler pulley can help to resolve these issues.
- Faulty Timing Belt: The timing belt in the Chevrolet Aveo can wear out or fail, causing the engine to misfire or stall. This can be a serious issue, as it can cause damage to the engine if not addressed promptly. Regular maintenance and replacement of the timing belt can help to prevent these issues.
- Exterior Lighting: Headlights: The 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo models equipped with daytime running lights (DRL) may have a problem with the DRL module located in the center console in the instrument panel. The DRL module may generate heat, which could melt the module. This can cause the headlights to malfunction or fail, posing a safety hazard for drivers.
- Fuel System, Gasoline: Certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 1.6L engine may have a problem with the fuel line in the engine compartment. During a NCAP severe frontal crash test, the fuel line may develop a fracture, causing fuel to leak onto the ground. This can pose a serious safety hazard, as it can cause a fire or explosion.
In conclusion, while the Chevrolet Aveo has several common problems, regular maintenance and inspection of the engine, transmission, and other critical components can help to prevent these issues and ensure the car remains safe and reliable for years to come.

COMPLAINTS KEEP PILING IN FROM AVEO OWNERS ABOUT THE AIRBAG SAFETY LIGHTS THAT NEVER TURN OFF, NEARLY CATCHING UP WITH 20 YEARS OF "COMPLAINTS INVOLVING TAKATA INFLATORS..." MY CAR WAS PARKED WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL BACKED INTO MY PASSENGER DOOR. THE COLLISION WAS SO SEVERE THE DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. YET IT TRIGGERED NO AIRBAGS. DID YOU KNOW WHILE THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ENGAGED, THE CAR CANNOT BE SOLD? YOU THINK THIS MIGHT BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT INDICATES A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM - THAT MOST PROMINENT FEATURE IN AVEO'S HIGHLY TOUTED "5-POINT" SAFETY RATING? SO WHAT'S ITS RATING WITHOUT AIRBAGS? OR DO WE NEED A HIGHER BODY COUNT BEFORE THE MAKERS AND SAFETY REGULATORS ARE WILLING TO TALK ABOUT THAT? NEED WE REALLY TOIL WITH THE QUESTION ABOUT WHY AMERICA LOST ITS PLACE IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY? WE NEED GO NO FURTHER THAN RIGHT HERE.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
- Summary: General Motors is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo vehicles equipped with daytime running lights (DRL). In the affected vehicles, there may be heat generated within the DRL module located in the center console in the instrument panel, which could melt the DRL module.
- Consequence: If the DRL module melts due to the heat generation, it could cause a vehicle fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a revised DRL module, inspect the wiring connector for heat damage, and clean the DRL circuit grounds. Owners were sent interim notices on August 14, 2014. The recall began on February 6, 2015. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). General Motors recall number for this campaign is 14236.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 1.6L ENGINE, DURING A NCAP SEVERE FRONTAL CRASH TEST, THE FUEL LINE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DEVELOPED A FRACTURE. IN ADDITION, THE CRASH DAMAGE CAUSED FOUR SHORT CIRCUITS IN THE FUSE BLOCK, THE COMBINATION OF WHICH ALLOWED THE FUEL PUMP TO CONTINUE RUNNING AND FUEL LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND.
- Consequence: IF THESE CONDITIONS OCCURRED IN AN ACTUAL CRASH, A VEHICLE FIRE COULD OCCUR.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUSE BLOCK AND INSTALL A NEW SECTION OF FUEL LINE THAT HAS BEEN REDESIGNED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438.

I can relate to your story about your car. It was a gift from your dad when you got your driver's license and it had all the bells and whistles at the time. It served you well for many years, but over time, some things did go wrong. The drivers door lock fell, hinges were creaky and stiff, headlights burnt out constantly, and it did not hold up in accidents. That last one always made you somewhat scared to get in your vehicle. Despite these issues, it was a great first car and you loved it. Unfortunately, it was rear-ended a month ago and because of the poor quality of the vehicle, it caused more damage than what the vehicle was worth. You said your goodbyes today and are now beginning your search for a new car. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

Bought aveo used with 21,000 miles. Had new front brakes and rotors installed because the rotors were warped. So far, it's been a great car! It's fun to drive, easy on gas, and as someone who is 6'2

Congratulations on your new car! It sounds like you got a great deal with the rebate and credit card points. The 1.6 liter engine is perfect for handling the A/C and getting great gas mileage on the freeway. While the seating may not be plush, it's a great basic car that meets your needs. Thanks for sharing your positive experience and we hope you enjoy your new car for years to come!

I really like this car! It was such a great deal at $8,100 out the door. Although it doesn't have air conditioning, it has so many great features that would have been considered an upgrade just a few years ago. It's also incredibly reliable and super cute!

Congratulations on your new car! It sounds like you made a smart choice by selecting a model that is both affordable and fuel-efficient. With your long commute, it's important to have a car that won't break the bank at the pump. It's great to hear that your new car performed well on your trip to Houston, even with a loaded trailer and passengers. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive car, it certainly gets the job done. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I recently traded in my 07 Aveo LT sedan/automatic and it served me well until I was ready to upgrade to something nicer. Despite its small engine, the car was reliable and got the job done. While it may not be the fastest car out there, I always felt safe passing on 2 lane roads. The car's high seating position and wide windshield provided excellent driver visibility. Additionally, the car's small size made it very agile in low speed tight turns, making it easy to navigate through city traffic and park. The LT model (and possibly others) also comes with a lot of nice options that you wouldn't expect in this price range, such as heated mirrors and foglights.

I should have been more cautious when I purchased the 1-year-old car from the dealer with the check engine light on (throttle body). Unfortunately, I have had a few issues since then, including a new cylinder head (valve sealing issues causing misfires), timing belt tensioner problem (noisy), drivebelt tensioner (noisy), brakes (vibration), and now throttle body engine error codes again. Fortunately, all of these issues were covered under warranty, except for the brakes (which were free for me, apart from not having the car). The service team has been doing their best, but the car has been in service for about 10% of the time I have owned it! Thankfully, I have a reliable 11-year-old backup car. It seems like the problems are focused in specific areas...

I purchased this car with the primary goal of achieving good fuel economy, which it has delivered on. However, I have experienced some issues with the vehicle and have had to take it to the dealer four times for repairs. One of the repairs involved replacing the main seal, which took a week to complete. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common issue with other Aveo models as well. Additionally, I had to have a sensor replaced within a week of the main seal repair. As someone who has previously been satisfied with GM vehicles, I am disappointed with this experience. While I don't feel comfortable driving it long distances, I am grateful to have dealerships nearby. I am currently exploring options to replace this car as soon as possible.

The radiator was replaced under warranty during the 10th month. However, during the 25th month at 23,000 miles, the radiator began to leak again. Unfortunately, the dealer has stated that it will not be covered under warranty due to the vehicle being serviced by another autoshop after relocation. Despite this setback, it is important to note that the Chevrolet Aveo Sedan is a reliable vehicle overall.
