Overview

The XT6 (short for Crossover Touring 6) is Cadillac’s third crossover SUV, and the largest in Cadillac's XT series, slotted between the XT5 and the full size SUV Escalade. The XT6 is produced at GM's Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, while the Chinese-market XT6 is manufactured in Shanghai by SAIC-GM. The XT6 went on sale in Russia in February 2020. It also went on sale in Japan in early 2020 with one trim level, six-passenger seating, and left hand drive configuration.

While it serves as the high luxury counterpart to the mid-size 3-row Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave in the crossover SUV segment, the XT6 shares its wheelbase with the mid-size GMC Acadia, Cadillac XT5, and the Chinese version of the Chevrolet Blazer. Cadillac describes the XT6 as a “mid-size plus” vehicle as they see the XT5 as their primary mid-size CUV.

There have been multiple complaints about this serious problem on the Cadillac Owners Forum. I make deliveries to senior citizens homes (Meals on Wheels) with this car and need my backup camera to work. I no longer feel safe driving this car. I have contacted my dealership (Lafontaine Cadillac in Highland, Mi) and they will not accommodate a service appointment and supply a loaner car until July 22, 2022.

  • Summary: Cadillac Case number is 9-6766521074. The Cadillac CT6 has a flaw in the intelligent braking assist(IBA) software. When no collision is imminent, pushing the brake even slightly results in extremely hard overbraking causing all items to fly forward. There is no way to turn off IBA without disabling the entire Automatic Emergency Braking System. To be clear, it is OK that the car senses inaccurately a collision and it is OK to apply the Automatic Emergency Braking Logic, the problem is that the Intelligent Braking Assist is too hard when a crash is not imminent and this will cause following cars to rearend the XT6 when no hazard is expected/present. As an interim, please direct Cadillac that they update there system preference software to allow customers to turn off Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) independently while still keeping Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).

The rearview camera coaxial cable connectors may have been crimped improperly, causing the rearview camera to fail or function intermittently.
  • Consequence: An inoperative rearview camera can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the start-stop transmission accumulator and replace it if any bolts are missing, free of charge. The recall began December 15, 2020.   • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles. The fuel pump's jet nozzle may have a plastic burr remaining from the manufacturing process, possibly causing a blocked nozzle and an insufficient fuel supply to the engine.
  • Consequence: Insufficient fuel supply can result in an engine stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump module. The recall began November 16, 2020. (GM) is recalling certain 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT5 and XT6, Chevrolet Blazer, Silverado 1500, 2500 and 3500 and Traverse and GMC Acadia and Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The diffuser component of the Roof-Rail Air Bag (RRAB) inflator may not have been properly crimped to the inflator and could separate from the inflator during air bag deployment.
  • Consequence: If the diffuser separates from the inflator during deployment, RRAB performance may be degraded, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the suspect RRAB modules, free of charge. The recall began September 3, 2020.     I have a 2020 XT6 Platinum with the 3.6L V6 since 12/20. I typically only drive 8K-9K miles a year in a metropolitan environment, but I have noticed that I need to change the full synthetic Dexos oil every 4-5 months. When I asked the service reps about this, they just smiled and said that his wife's XT5 has the same issue. Despite this and a few other minor issues, such as a bubbled dash, busted seam on the driver's seat, and recalls, I have found the SUV to be comfortable, safe, and quiet. The MPG has been around 14 mpg, which is not ideal, but overall, I am happy with my purchase. Although, I have noticed that when I need to accelerate, the engine can be a bit loud and unrefined, taking a good 1-2 seconds to respond. Despite this, I still enjoy driving my XT6 Platinum.

    I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 20 XT6 Sport! It sounds like it has plenty of room and is very comfortable, quiet, and efficient. The infotainment system also seems to be one of the best and easy to use. Even without the Platinum package, the interior is high quality. It's great to know that Cadillac is offering an excellent warranty and 0% for 72 months. Additionally, the Sport package has a locking rear differential, while the luxury package controls wheel slip by the brakes.
