The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.
Lexus marketed the GS as a performance sedan competing in the mid-luxury class, between its compact executive IS and large/flagship LS. The GS shared its chassis with one of Toyota's longest-running nameplates, the Toyota Crown premium sedans until 2011.
The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

- Summary: I am writing to file a complaint against Lexus Corporation regarding a significant safety issue with my vehicle. Despite NHTSA’s recall notice for defective engine valve springs installed in certain 2008 GS350 vehicles with a specified range of VIN numbers that includes my vehicle’s, Lexus still persevered my car is not applicable for the recall and refused to cover the necessary repair costs after identifying the root cause of my car’s engine failure to be a broken valve spring out of a total of 24, as was initially diagnosed by a local auto repair shop. Their negligence of timely contacting impacted vehicle’s owner and outright refusal to cover this critical recall repair cost is truly outrageous as my own life and public safety have been in danger during these years. My vehicle experienced a near-catastrophic sudden engine failure with violent shaking and stalling at around 7:30am on April 27 while traveling on Highway 101. Fortunately, I managed to exit the highway safely during the heavy traffic and pulled into a nearby parking lot. It was towed to a local auto repair shop for initial diagnosis and a few days later transported to the Stevens Creek Lexus repair facility as instructed by them. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall (document link: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2010/RCMN-10V309-1264.pdf) encompassing the range of vehicles affected by the defective valve springs, which includes my vehicle. However, despite being within the recall range, Lexus Corporate still refused to cover the repair costs. I respectfully request your intervention in conducting a thorough investigation into this matter. It is crucial that Lexus Corporate be held accountable for their actions, and appropriate measures be taken to rectify this safety issue without delay. The safety of consumers must always be a top priority, and I trust that NHTSA will take decisive action to protect the public from further harm.

- Summary: 2008 GS350 - 129k miles - 1 owner Looking for input on whether/how to proceed as this is now a multi-year problem (2019- 2021). My 2008 Lexus GS350 had the following recalls (All fuel and engine related): NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 18V432000; NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V647000 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 09V020000; NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 10V309000 Before the last fuel assembly recall work was out of warranty 2019, I started experiencing an extreme fuel odor after a decline AND each time car was started (noticeable only with windows down). No warning lights, system reported no issues. Independent mechanic found a leaking fuel injector (port on that side is "clean".) (Lexus dealerships found no issues). Replaced fuel injector, no change in fuel smell, strong as ever. Neither Lexus or Independent mechanic can determine what is wrong. Pandemic happened and I only drive the car once a week to the grocery store, strong fuel smell on startup still happens. (Haven't been on any incline/declines). 5/9/21, filled gas tank, started car, made 2 stops before heading home, "Check engine, Check VSC" and a myriad of lights came up on dash. (Total of 3 startups after filling tank, lights came on after 3rd start). Code comes up - P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2 All the fuel related symptoms & issues can't be a coincidence. 2 Fuel assembly recalls, fuel smell, leaking fuel injector, continued fuel smell, now catalytic converter issue even though car is barely used in the last year.

NO OTHER WORK WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE BETWEEN JUNE 10 - AUGUST 29, 2017 AND NO ONE WAS EVEN UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS STRANDED 90 MILES NORTH OF THE NEAREST TOWN IN 110-DEGREE HEAT WITH SUBSTANDARD CELL PHONE SERVICE. THIS OVERHEATING CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL ENGINE DAMAGE WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO BELL LEXUS NORTH SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA. IT WAS DAYS BEFORE THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO ME IN AN OPERABLE CONDITION. THE NEGLIGENCE OF LEXUS OF ROSEVILLE IN SERVICING MY LEXUS CAUSED THE DAMAGE BY FAILING TO CONDUCT THE SIMPLE INSPECTION WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS DAMAGE FROM OCCURRING. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE DISCOVERED THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE RECALLS FOR GASOLINE LEAKS IN THE ENGINE BAYS OF LEXUS VEHICLES. I DID BRING MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THE "ELF" RECALL IN 2015 WHICH COVERS THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. WHEN READING ABOUT THE "9LA" AND THE "BLA" RECALLS, IT SEEMS THAT MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE AFFECTED VEHICLES OF THESE RESPECTIVE RECALLS. SO WE HAVE A PROBLEM. I DID HAVE THE "LEAKY FUEL" RECALL FOR MY CAR PERFORMED BY THE LEXUS DEALERSHIP (3 YEARS AGO) BUT I STILL ENDED UP WITH AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY FATAL CONDITION WITH GASOLINE LEAKING ON THE TOP OF MY ENGINE. AN ENGINE'S FUEL RAIL (AND THE FUEL RAIL COMPONENTS) IS AN ITEM THAT SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO LAST THE LIFE OF AN ENGINE WITHOUT LEAKS. LOOKING THIS ISSUE UP ON THE INTERNET IT IS ALL OVER. MANY OWNERS OF THE GS450H HAS EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AND AS A RESULT HAVE HAD TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX IT. THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE ABS ACTUATOR AND LEXUS THEMSELVES HAVE ADMITTED IT HOWEVER THEY FAIL TO REPLACE THEM. THE PART ON MOST CARS IS 44050-30260 WHICH LEXUS HAS DISCONTINUED SELLING. THE NEW PART IS LABELED AS 44050-30670. I recently attended the Taste of Lexus event and was thoroughly impressed with the car. Although I had a great experience with my 2002 LS 430, I decided to trade it in for this new hybrid model. I am particularly fond of the hybrid not only because it saves me money on gas, but also because of its impressive speed. In fact, it can keep up with most Porsche cars! The sport transmission is also a standout feature that I absolutely love. The design of the car is very sleek and attractive. If you're looking to save some money, the GS 350 is a great option as well, with only 37 less horsepower than the model I chose.

I ordered my car in early August and picked it up three days ago. It's a dream! However, as a tall and heavy man, I have a few issues with it. The entry is a bit of a headbanger and the center console is not sturdy enough. Additionally, using hi-octane gasoline is an economical nightmare in Tokyo. Despite these issues, I am super satisfied with my purchase. I couldn't fit in a Prius, but all things considered, this is the best car I've owned and driven so far. I plan to keep it for about five years and I am confident that I will have no mechanical issues. By the way, I'm happy to be the first to own one!

The quality is excellent, but it doesn't quite feel like a performance car compared to the BMW I traded in. It's great to be driving a hybrid, but I have noticed a slight hesitation when accelerating. I'm not yet sure if it's due to the engine shifting or something else.

The car performs great with lots of power and quality all over. It has nice features, although some of them are not very usable while driving. The clean lines of the Lexus legacy add luxury to this sport sedan, making it a great car overall. However, there are some misses, such as the dash usability and the lockout of features while driving. Additionally, the song list of CDs is limited to MP3s only, with a 255 song limit, and there is no option to play DVD MP3s even though it is a DVD changer. The radio list remains at speed, which is different from the CD list and can be confusing. In comparison, the 2007 Acura MDX has a Glass Dash that works perfectly. Although Lexus (Toyota) has taken a conservative approach, I hope they can come up with a software update to fix these issues. I would even sign a waiver for it. Please Lexus, consider this feedback!

The two main things you should know about this vehicle are the small trunk space, which everyone warned me about, and the fact that it has no spare tire, so you will need run-flat tires. However, after having the car for over a year, it has had very few problems, except for the CD and radio stopping playing simultaneously. Additionally, the maintenance schedule for these cars is not comparable to other luxury sedans of this year. You have to change the oil every three months, and I am not sure about the tune-ups, but I know it is not at 100,000 miles. The car is very comfortable and provides a steady ride. It is also extremely fast and easy to drive with the power mode and handling settings. Overall, I would rate it 8.5 out of 10.

I bought this car after owning 3 BMWs because I found the service on BMWs in Southern California to be quite awful. I must say that Lexus service is truly amazing and far ahead of any other car type, which is hard to believe. However, I have noticed that this car handles quite loosely and due to the continuously variable transmission, it feels more like driving a motor boat than a car.

I have owned or leased at least five vehicles since 1993, including a 1998 GS 400. However, I must say that this particular model does not meet my expectations. The gas-electric-gas kickin/out sensation at speeds around 59 mph is extremely annoying, and the trunk is minuscule. I am currently trying to find a way to get rid of this vehicle. It is worth noting that the mileage is only 4-5 mpg better than my GS 400.
