The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.

Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.

Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.

The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
  • VIN: 1G6AX5SX3J0
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding a known issue with the 2018 Cadillac CTS that poses a significant safety risk. The LCD/backup display screen in my 2018 Cadillac CTS has cracked on its own, taking up the entire display. This is a well-documented problem that many Cadillac owners have reported to GM, yet the manufacturer refuses to take responsibility or remedy the situation. The cracked display screen severely compromises the vehicle's safety features and functionality, including the backup camera and critical driver information. Driving with a completely shattered display is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. As the manufacturer, GM is fully aware of this defect but has failed to issue a recall or provide any solutions to affected customers. This is negligent and puts the safety of drivers and passengers at risk. I demand that GM take immediate action to address this issue, whether through a recall, extended warranty coverage, or full replacement of the faulty display screens. Leaving customers with such a critical safety hazard is unacceptable.

MY CARS TRANSMISSION ALSO SHIFTS VERY VERY ROUGH KINDLY JERKY WHICH CREATES A UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT WHILE IN MOTION. THIS IS A CONSISTENT ISSUE AND WITH MY CAR AND ONLY HAVING 12,000 MILES ON IT I FIND REALLY CONCERNING. THIS VIBRATION ONLY HAPPENS BETWEEN 50-60MPH AND THE ROUGH TRANSMISSION SHIFTING HAPPENS AS I DRIVE IT ALONG WITH VIBRATIONS ARE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHICH SHAKE MY ENTIRE CAR. ALL SERVICES ARE UP TO DATE. CADILLAC AND GM ARE BOTH NOT SURE OF WHAT THE ISSUE CAN BE EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THE SAME ISSUE

Negative 2018 Cadillac Cts car reviews

  1. Reid Muller 2025-10-03

Hello! We recently purchased a 2016 CTS, but unfortunately, we've been experiencing a rattling noise from the sunroof since the day we drove it off the lot. We've brought it in for service multiple times, but the dealership has been unable to duplicate the noise. We even left the car with them until the issue was resolved, but the grease and tape they applied to the sunroof track didn't help. The dealership informed us that we're not the only ones experiencing this issue. We're disappointed with Cadillac and have decided to trade in our car for a BMW. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The Auto Stop/Start feature may not be for everyone, as it can be a bit annoying and distracting when the car shakes and jiggles at every stop sign and stop light. However, it is possible to turn this feature off every time you start the car. It is recommended to thoroughly test drive the car before buying, especially in city/urban driving conditions with the A/C turned off. While this feature won't bother everyone, it may bother some. It's worth noting that GM has put out a couple of bulletins on the subject, such as #15-NA-033 'Normal Characteristic – Slight Bump, Jerk or Rough Engine Startup [Oct 15, 2015]' and Directive #16-NA-071: Diagnostic Tips for Stop/Start and Auto Stop Operation [Mar 4, 2016]. It's important to inform customers about the unique features and operational characteristics of their vehicle equipped with Stop/Start. To ensure that the sales team is fully prepared, we recommend using the Getting to Know Your Vehicle guide as an outline when presenting the vehicle to the customer. We understand that some customers may have concerns about the run-flat tires, as they can be loud and provide a less comfortable ride. Additionally, the tactile sliders/buttons may be over-engineered for some users. However, there are also many positives to the 2016 CTS models, such as the larger trunk and cool storage area in the dash. The feature that allows you to program the radio to notify you when your favorite band is on XM is also a great addition. Bluetooth connectivity with your phone is loud and clear. Overall, we believe that the 2016 CTS is a great car with many features that customers will love.

  3. Frankie Howell 2025-06-28

We test drove the 4-cylinder turbo model and unfortunately experienced a high-pitched whine throughout the drive. Additionally, the engine noise was quite loud. Although the car had a great instrument package, it was not functioning properly, which was disappointing given that it was a brand new vehicle. The interior felt cramped, and we also had issues with the selectable ride, which may have been related to the instrument malfunction. Overall, we were not entirely satisfied with our experience. The price point was average for what we were looking for, but we were hoping for better value and comfort.

  4. Keshawn Cummings 2025-06-14

I recently received a 2016 CTS base model with 4 cyl as a loaner while my 2013 XTS Luxury is being serviced. Although I love the XTS, which is the most comfortable car I've ever owned, I thought about downsizing to the CTS Luxury as I really like the exterior. The appearance is great, and while the interior is basically the same look as my XTS, it is a bit more cramped and the quality is slightly less. However, being a downsize from the XTS, I was not put off by that. The front seat is very comfortable though, and as someone who is 6 ft tall, I had the seat back almost all the way, making the backseat behind me useless. Not a big issue for me, but I thought I'd point it out. The ride, unfortunately, was not great. It's like driving an old pick up, as you feel every pebble and the engine noise can be annoying. Despite this, I did find the front seat to be very comfortable. The biggest issue with this car is the price. They want more for a CTS than my XTS, which is roomy, comfortable and rides like a cloud.

  5. Milan Cartwright 2024-10-07

I recently test drove the new Luxury Cadillac CTS 4 (all wheel drive) and unfortunately found it to be disappointing. The ride quality is still the same as it was 25 years ago, and there is a lot of noise from the tires, exhaust, and engine that comes through even when the stereo is set on low. Additionally, the car lacks innovation and technology, and its poor aerodynamics result in poor mileage. The car is also very heavy for no obvious reason, which makes it feel outdated. While Mercedes has introduced touch shift, GM has yet to follow suit, and Cadillac has yet to match the quietness of Lexus. Overall, I was disappointed with the car's performance and innovation, and I would choose a Mercedes or Lexus over this manufacturer's offerings. The car is priced at $65,000 and I was told it rides like a Cadillac, but if you're looking for poor quality from a U.S. automaker, this might be the car for you. I would recommend test driving a Lexus or Mercedes before trying the Cadillac, as I believe you will be similarly disappointed. Perhaps in another 15 years, Cadillac will have improved their planning and innovation.

Positive 2018 Cadillac Cts car reviews

  1. Hester Jacobson 2025-10-04

I recently purchased my fourth Cadillac and decided to trade in my 2014 XTS for a model with AWD, which is necessary for the climate I live in. After comparing the Audi A6 to the Cadillac CTS, I found that the CTS offers more standard features for less money, although the A6 has slightly more interior room. I would advise against the turbo 4 engine, as it is noisy, unrefined, and weak. Instead, I recommend the 3.0 V6 engine, which is quick and smooth. The ride and handling of the CTS is decidedly sporty, thanks in part to the AWD system and run-flat tires. However, I suggest replacing the run-flats with all-season radials and a

Driving my 2016 Cadillac CTS Vsport Premium is an absolute joy! I have owned several cars in the past, including Mazda RX-7 and RX-8, 1956 and '57 Ford Thunderbirds, and a Dodge Stealth twin turbo v6, but my current Vsport tops them all! It is not only beautiful but also very responsive to every driving sense that I have. It is wonderful to drive both in town and on the highway, and it can comfortably carry up to 5 adults. With just a small, light tap on the gas, the 420Hp turbo V-6 engine will place you a few car lengths ahead when the light turns green, and you didn't even try. Comfort is also a top priority! The car has heated and cooled everything, a heads-up display, plus multiple choices for dashboard appearances, so you never have to lift your eyes off of the road. In summary, my Vsport Premium is a beautiful, sexy, fast, and comfortable car with accessories for just about everything. It is a driver's car, and I highly recommend that you go out of your way to drive one!

  3. Porter Graham 2025-09-08

I always buy Cadillacs, so I may be a bit biased. The black metallic 2017 CTS with the black interior is absolutely stunning and turns heads. I receive multiple compliments on it every day. If you're looking for a beautiful car that outclasses the vast majority of other rides out there, the 2017 CTS is the one for you. It's also great to drive. The only thing I'm getting used to compared to my previous CTS, which I still love and drive, is that the steering isn't as precise. It's still good, but definitely different.

  4. Dejuan Walter 2025-09-03

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your car so far! I understand that the fuel saving feature can be a bit of a pain, but it's great that there's an override feature available. It's interesting to hear that the SUV you were considering didn't have that feature - that was definitely a smart thing to consider when making your decision. On the bright side, it sounds like your car has great acceleration and good gas mileage, which is always a plus!

  5. Perry Mayer 2025-08-13

The cue system can be a bit complex, so we may need a tutorial for visual learners. Additionally, the engine is designed to stop when the brakes are applied to ensure safety. It's worth noting that there is no spare tire, so we'll need to be extra careful on the road. Lastly, the passenger door can be a bit tricky to close due to the handles being too far forward. While the transmission can shift hard at times, it's generally reliable. However, it has refused to change when accelerating hard into traffic, so we'll need to be mindful of that.
