2007 Cadillac Cts problems

The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.

Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.

Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.

The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

Common 2007 Cadillac Cts problems

The 2007 Cadillac CTS has been known to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine, steering, and transmission systems.

One of the most significant issues is the broken timing chain, which typically occurs around 80,000 miles. This problem can lead to severe engine damage if not addressed promptly. The steering wheel position sensor failure is another common problem that can cause the car to behave unexpectedly, such as engaging the cruise control, jerking side to side, or trying to brake.

Regarding the engine, many owners have reported rough idling, engine failure, and stalling, mainly caused by a seized motor, worn camshaft, or a faulty engine control module (ECM) sensor.

In addition, transmission failures and a dead transfer case are common problems with the 2009 CTS, which can happen early in the car's life and pose a significant safety risk.

The 2007 Cadillac CTS has also had issues with airbag problems, electrical problems, and brake line failure, which have been addressed through recalls. However, complaints about these issues continue to be registered.

Overall, the 2007 Cadillac CTS has a lifespan of around 200,000 miles, but poor maintenance can cut its life expectancy in half. The annual maintenance cost is around $459, with new cylinder heads being the most expensive common repair, starting at around $3,465.

Despite these problems, the 2007 Cadillac CTS is still a good value if you can find one in good shape, with a model with around 135,000 miles on the odometer typically selling for around $5,767.

  • VIN: 1G6DP577X70
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS

HE BRAGGED ABOUT BEING A MECHANIC, AND DOING ALL THE WORK ON THE CAR, SO EVERYTHING IN THE CAR IS IN, "TIP TOP SHAPE." HE REPLIED, "NO, NEVER!" HE DID NOT ALLOW US TO RIDE THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE BEFORE THE PURCHASE, CLAIMING IT WAS ILLEGAL. 10 MINS AFTER LEAVING THE CAR LOT, THE CAR CUTS OFF AND IS UNABLE TO CRANK BACK UP. THE SELLER MEETS US AND CLAIMS IT THE BATTERY. A "NEW" BATTERY WAS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. MY FIANC, WHO IS NOT A MECHANIC, TOLD HIM MORE THAN ONCE, THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE BATTERY, BUT THE ALTERNATOR. HE GOT THE CAR TO CRANK. AS WE ARE RIDING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, THE CAR CUTS OFF, AND WE ARE LEFT AIMLESSLY ROLLING AND ARE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE WHEEL. PLUS, THE ELECTRICITY IN THE CAR IS OFF SO WE CAN'T EVEN TURN ON OUR HAZARD LIGHTS TO CAUTION THE OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE SELLER, ONCE AGAIN, HE TELLS US THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT AND WILL NOT CANCEL THE DEAL. WE'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 4-5 HOURS. AFTER SPEAKING TO SEVERAL MECHANICS, THEY QUICKLY CONFIRM THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS THE PROBLEM AND ANYBODY THAT CLAIMS TO BE A MECHANIC CAN SEE THE PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. THEY ALSO INFORM US THE CAR HAS BEEN WRECKED AND SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN RESOLD FOR SAFETY MEASURES. DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ALMOST COST US OUR LIVES.

2007 Cadillac Cts recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2007 Cadillac Cts.

2014-09-09
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V vehicles manufactured October 6, 2003, to March 15, 2007, and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V vehicles manufactured June 23, 2005, to March 15, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the electrical terminals of the fuel pump module may overheat resulting in the melting of the flange material.
  • Consequence: If the flange melts, a hole may be created allowing the fuel pump to leak fuel, causing the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, free of charge. GM sent out interim notices in late October. The recall began on March 12, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14405.
2014-07-02
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.

THIS FLEXING CAN BREAK THE CONNECTIONS IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE SENSOR MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AND WILL DISABLE THE AIR BAG.
  • Consequence: NON-DEPLOYMENT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH NECESSITATING THAT AIR BAG'S DEPLOYMENT MAY REDUCE PROTECTION OF THE PASSENGER AND INCREASE THE RISK OR SEVERITY OF INJURY TO THEM.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MARCH 15, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 AND AT THE OWNER CENTER AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Negative 2007 Cadillac Cts car reviews

Hi there! It looks like your car has reached 50,000 miles. At this point, you may want to consider some maintenance to keep it running smoothly. Let's take a look at what we can do to keep your car in tip-top shape!

  2. Salvatore Wuckert 2024-06-29

Although I have experienced some major repairs with my CTS, I am confident that this is not a reflection of the model as a whole. I appreciate the car's design and features and would like to explore the possibility of trying another CTS in the future.

  3. Nelson Buckridge 2024-03-13

This vehicle performs well on the road, although it falls short of the EPA mileage. It comes equipped with a larger engine (not the V-8) that delivers a good performance. However, on rough roads, the interior can be quite noisy due to the combination of shocks, suspension, and body, which results in some annoying reverberation over bumps. Unfortunately, the back seat passenger AC was not included in the plan, and it is comparable to the cheapest Chevy on the lot. If you want to cool the back seat, you have to run the AC fans on high, which can make the front seat too cold. Additionally, the trunk does not have the closer system, so it requires a big slam to shut.

Positive 2007 Cadillac Cts car reviews

  1. Mathew Kuhic 2024-11-29

This car hugs the road like it's on rails. It's amazing how well it performs for a luxury car. It has good power and a firm yet comfortable ride. The Bose radio, XM and OnStar are superb. The interior is refined and the exterior is sleek.

  2. Verner Satterfield 2024-11-27

I love the sporty look and feel of the car! It's so responsive and has an excellent turning radius. However, I have noticed a slight humming noise when driving at speeds around 42-47 miles per hour, which can be a bit annoying. I am going back for the second time to have this looked at, as I really want to enjoy a peaceful ride. I believe that Cadillac can do better and I hope they can fix this issue soon.

  3. Gregorio Leffler 2024-11-24

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share with you that I just got the CTS last week and I'm absolutely loving it! It's like having the best of both worlds - a luxury sedan and a sports car. The power and cornering ability are amazing, and the seats are so comfortable. I'm really looking forward to taking it on a road trip this weekend!

  4. Ryan Steuber 2024-11-19

First thing I noticed was the excellent control at slow speeds. No more ramming into snow banks, no more racing into my garage and braking! It rolls out of the driveway and almost comes to a stop to go forward on the street without braking. It handles like a kitten at slow speeds and that is the best I have seen in any car.

  5. Eugene Leuschke 2024-09-06

I've been driving this car for six months now and I still love it just as much as I did on day one. It's actually my second car in the entry luxury market, with my first being the '98 328i. I really adore this car because all I want to do is take her out on the town and show her off. However, I do have a couple of complaints related to comfort and interior design. Unfortunately, after about an hour in the car, my back starts to hurt no matter how I adjust the seats. It's a shame that the seating and interior features of our 2002 Camry XLE are superior to those of the Cadillac. We won't be using this car for road trips, especially with two young kids in the back seat. In many ways, it reminds me of the 328.
