The Buick Rendezvous is a mid-size crossover SUV that was sold by Buick for the 2002–2007 model years. Introduced in the spring of 2001, the Buick Rendezvous and its corporate cousin, the Pontiac Aztek, were GM's first entries into the crossover SUV segment. The Rendezvous featured a four-speed automatic transmission with a V6 engine and optional all-wheel-drive (Versatrak). The SUV used the same platform as GM's short-wheelbase minivans, the Chevrolet Venture and Pontiac Montana. The Rendezvous provided a passenger- and load-carrying capacity not seen in the Buick lineup since the discontinuation of the Buick Roadmaster Estate station wagon in 1996.
Technology and notable features
It was Buick's first truck in its lineup since 1923, and the Rendezvous was billed as a combination of the best attributes of a minivan (large cargo capacity, seating for up to seven), a luxury automobile (ride, handling, smoothness) and a sport utility vehicle (truck styling and available all wheel drive).
The Rendezvous was produced at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe, Mexico assembly plant, where it shared an assembly line with the Pontiac Aztek. Like the Pontiac Aztek, the Buick Rendezvous is based on a shortened version of GM's second generation U platform minivans. In lieu of four-wheel drive, the Rendezvous offered Versatrak, a full-time, fully automatic all-wheel drive system which provided sure-footed traction in inclement weather and could handle moderate off-road surfaces.
Buick benchmarked their Park Avenue sedan as the prototypical target for ride and handling for the Rendezvous. In order to provide a luxurious and responsive car-like ride, all Rendezvous came equipped with a fully independent rear suspension system regardless of optional content or trim level.
The Rendezvous' instrument cluster detailing featured teal illuminated needles and numbers set in a silver face accented by chrome trim rings that was meant to evoke the luxurious look and feel of an expensive watch or designer bracelet. On the uplevel CXL model, a driver information center on the instrument panel provided the outside temperature, compass functions, a trip computer that included readings of fuel economy, range and fuel used. An optional second generation heads-up display was also available. This was also available in the CX model. An optional tire inflation monitoring system provided readings of tire pressure and warned if out of the specified range.
The Rendezvous boasted the ability to carry seven passengers when equipped with a third-row bench, a class-leading feature that Buick brought to market before its competitors, and was able to carry within its interior a standard 4 x 8' sheet of plywood.
In support of the Rendezvous' intended role as a versatile accoutrement for busy people with families, it provided a center console with storage space and power points for a laptop computer as well as a separate spots to hold a purse, a cell phone, pager or other small items that the owner would want to keep organized and readily accessible as well as an optional rear cargo organizer system and rear seat stereo system controls with headsets.

- Summary: Upon arriving at my destination and after i put my in park i was UNABLE to turn my engine off because the ignition was stuck in that position. I ultimately had no choice but to unhook the battery cables along with disconnecting the alternator to get my engine to turn off. Prior to this incident occasionally upon starting my car the ignition would not disengage immediately upon the engine turning over which ultimately resulted in having to replace the starter on this vehicle. I am a single parent and only have one vehicle so this is a major issue for my family. Furthermore the fan speed control knob doesnt work properly because when it is put in position 3 it shuts the fan motor off completely. So there CLEAR to me that there seems to be a MAJOR electrical issue. The suspension on this vehicle is horrendous. I cannot go above 45mph without by car wanting to go into on-coming traffic or off of the road or trying to flip over on its side because the shocks/struts on the passenger side are not working properly. I have not used this vehicle for any other purpose then to transport myself and children to and from work/school/appointments. Everyone i spoke to about this particular vehicle has said that these vehicles were manufactured poorly and repairs come at a high cost.

- Summary: I PURCHASED A 2004 BUICK RENDEZVOUS FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP, 2 CAR GUYS LLC, IN YORK, PA ON 7/10. AT THE TIME I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE PURCHASE WITH THE LOW STICKER PRICE OF 4K, LOW MILEAGE OF 68K, AND THE 5/18 INSPECTION. THE CAR, AFTER CHECKING THE ENGINE AND FRAME, ITSELF SEEMED TO BE IN DECENT CONDITION AND I BROUGHT IT HOME THAT DAY. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS AND EVEN MADE A LONG TRIP TO ALTOONA, PA WITH MY FAMILY. THEN EARLIER THIS WEEK I NOTICED SOME ISSUES WITH THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE. I TOOK IT IN TO MR. TIRE ON 7/26 FOR A BRAKE EXAMINATION. THE TECHNICIANS AT MR. TIRE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES AND EVEN MENTIONED THAT THEY WERE NEW. I WANTED THEM TO TEST DRIVE IT DOUBLE CHECK AND THEN AFTER THEY RETURNED THEY THOUGHT MAYBE A CALIBER WAS LOCKING UP ON IT. SO THEY LIFTED THE CAR AGAIN AND REALIZED THAT THE FRAME ITSELF WAS EXPANDING. SO THEY STUCK IT ON A LARGER LIFT TO ENSURE THAT THAT FRAME WOULD BE SHREDDED. THE LEAD TECHNICIAN BROUGHT ME OUT TO LOOK AT THE FRAME ITSELF. BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME HAD BEEN FILLED WITH FOAM INSULATION AND THEN SPRAY PAINTED WITH BLACK PAINT TO MATCH THE FRAME. SOMEONE HAD WENT TO A LOT OF EFFORT MASK THE ERODED FRAME. THE GUYS FROM MR. TIRE MENTIONED THAT NO WAY THAT COULD PASS A STATE INSPECTION LOOKING LIKE THAT. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE CAR AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE AND WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE CAMOUFLAGED RUST. THREE TECHNICIANS WERE UNDER THAT CAR THE FIRST TIME THE BUICK WAS LIFTED OFF THE GROUND AND DID NOT NOTICE THE "SLIDE OF HAND". I WOULD HAVE NEVER EVEN TEST DRIVEN THE CAR WITH MY SON KNOWING THAT IT WAS UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD.

NEW BATTERY AND NEW ALTENATOR INSTALLED, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THIS HAPPENED FIRST WHEN DRIVING ON HIWAY. AFTER VEHICLE PULLED OFF ROAD AND ENGINE TURNED OFF. THE DASH CODE THEN READ BATTERY ISSUE. WE TRIED TO DRIVE AGAIN BUT NOW VEHICLE OPERATED ROUGHLY AND THERE WAS NO MORE DAYLIGHT. WE HAD VEHICLE TOWED 100 MILES. THEN PAID FOR NEW BATTERY PROBLEM DID NOT CHANGE SO WE HAD A NEW ALTENATOR INSTALLED AFTER HAVING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ADVISING THE NEED FOR A NEW ALTENATOR. I AM QUITE UPSET BECAUS EI FEEL THAT THERE IS FRAUD ON PART OF SEARS AUTOREPAIR. DIAGNOSTIC SAID ALTENATOR WAS THE PROBLEM. I PAID OVER $450 FOR THAT SERVICE AND ANOTHER $150 FOR THE BATTERY.

THE CONTACT THEN CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER (BUICK GMC OF KIRKLAND, 12335 120TH AVE NE, KIRKLAND, WA, 98034) WHERE AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FRACTURE WITHIN THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 03V454000 (FUEL SYSTEM) OR 07V349000 (FUEL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 8-34895551467. THE CASE WAS ESCALATED, BUT THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THE CLAIM AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT NOR WAS THE VEHICLE INCLUDED IN THE PRIOR RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,100.

I bought my 2004 Rendevous 1-07 with 24000 miles on it. I love it! I have a new grandbaby. Loading the car seat and stroller in was the selling factor for me. When I upgrade to a new vehicle, I will upgrade to a newer model of the Rendevous.

I recently visited CarMax and was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of vehicles available for test driving. I fell in love with a particular vehicle at first sight! It comes with amazing features such as heated seats, XM radio, sunroof, reclining rear seats, and a third row that can accommodate up to 7 people. I have owned several vehicles in the past, but this one is by far the best. I am excited to take it on a road trip to Disney World! I have already recommended it to my friends and they are eager to get one too. The heads up display is a great feature and the two tone paint and shiny chrome make it stand out. Thank you, CarMax, for providing such a wonderful vehicle.

Great all around vehicle! It's perfect for outdoor activities and cleans up nicely for an evening out. I love how the Ultra's upgraded exterior package really dresses up the vehicle. Plus, it's such a comfortable ride on road trips. By the way, do you happen to know how many Ultra's were actually manufactured? I don't see very many of them around.

Your Rendezvous is a great car! It consistently gets 20-24 mpg in the city, and sometimes as high as 26 on the highway. The back has a lot of room, especially since you don't have the 3rd row seat. The seats fold down completely, and you can easily and quickly remove the entire back seat to open up even more room. Your wife will love all the storage up front, and the steering wheel audio controls are a nice touch. Although the brakes wear out a little quickly, it is to be expected on a heavier vehicle in city driving. The cloth seats are also wearing out and stain easily, but overall, we are very pleased with the car.

I have owned and leased many cars, but I must say that the Rendezvous is the best by far! From now on, I will always buy Rendezvous! This luxurious vehicle is classy, reliable, and has every accommodation my family and I need. I have had zero problems with it, even at 75,000 miles. I believe that the complaints others have are isolated incidences. My loaded CXL model is priced right for resale, unlike the pricey foreign competitors. It is sleek, stylish, and has zip! With heated seats, AWD, heads up display, moonroof, third row of seats, towing capability, power everything, rear park assist, lots of room and storage, this vehicle is perfect for me and my family. Go USA!

I made what I thought was a perfect purchase when I got the car brand new at a great deal. However, within a month, the tires started falling apart and had to be replaced. Despite the dealership claiming nothing was wrong with the A/C twice, it started making strange noises. Unfortunately, last year (2007), we had to rebuild the head gasket which was very expensive. Currently, we are experiencing oil leaks and are unable to locate the source. Once the negative equity evens out, we are looking forward to purchasing another vehicle. Despite the poor resale value, we remain confident in our ability to make a better purchase in the future.

-There is no light shining directly on the driver or front passenger seat. There is no leg room in the back. With the back seat in use, there is no room for luggage at all. The removable second-row seats are heavy, and I cannot remove them by myself. The headrests are dangerous! The rear vent for heating and cooling is terrible; there is only one, and it is located on the back of the center console. The doors are heavy, and there is plenty of wind noise. The back bumper scars easily when brushed by bags, luggage, etc. If you run the AC, engine power cuts dramatically when accelerating. Unfortunately, there is no smooth transition to overdrive. The vehicle runs great at 70-80, but 50-70 causes constant shifting.

I've owned this vehicle for three years and have driven it for 20,000 miles. While it gets the job done, I have had some issues with it. I purchased it for $3,000 in good condition, but have put in around $7,000 for repairs. The steering could be better, and the gas mileage is what you would expect from an SUV. I upgraded the technology myself, which wasn't included in the cost. Unfortunately, the floor leaks, so the carpet is always wet. The AWD drive turns off in the snow, so I'm not sure what the point of having it is. The dealership offered me $500 for it as a trade-in, but according to KBB, it's worth $1,500. Overall, I wouldn't buy or recommend a Buick again.

I've owned this car for 4 years and while it may not be the most exciting car out there, it has proven to be incredibly reliable. In fact, I've only had to make one repair in 90K miles, which is quite rare. The third row has also been a lifesaver in situations where I needed to transport extra people (and yes, even adults can fit back there!). Overall, I feel very safe in this car and it has served me well.
