After the discontinuation of the smaller Encore, the Encore GX was the entry-level offering from Buick, until the arrival of the larger but less expensive Envista.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-03
- VIN: KL4MMCSL3NB
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Get shift to park worning when in part. Lights stay on and worning signal sounds. Have to keep fooling with shifter to stop. GM seems not willing to do anything with this problem and parts to fix are on back order with no time for availability. Repair is around $560.00. From what I can find out , this has been an on going problem with GM autos. Please help
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-08
- VIN: KL4MMESL2NB
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Place car in park, turn off car. On your screen in front of you it shows “shift to park” and the radio does not shut off. It continues to chime and the radio and chime does not shut off. POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-20
- VIN: KL4MMGSL3NB
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Shift to park warning on dash board. Electronics malfunction with doors not locking, warning buzzer and lights blinking.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
- VIN: KL4MMDS2XNB
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Shift To Park displays in instrument panel when car is in Park. From my research this has been happening on GM cars since 2018, why is there no recall on this issue? People pay to get this replaced and then it happens again because GM has a "potential" fix, they are not even sure which part is causing the issue. Please help, I cannot afford to get this fixed and of course this happened right after the bumper-to-bumper warranty expired. Tech not sure if it would be covered under the Power train warranty, but mostly likely not since GM really does not know what part is causing the issue, so I'm sure they will say its anything but the Powertrain! NHTSA should be protecting consumers, this is a very old issue, and GM is still selling vehicles with this issue! Force them to do a recall, it's only fair to the consumers.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
- VIN: KL4MMFSL9NB
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When the car is parked, it will not shut off due to the “shift to park” warning.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-26
- VIN: KL4MMDSL2NB
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: Within first couple months of ownership we had a wheel insert come off. We had it replaced at dealer Dec 2022 and noted it was two small bolts holding on the insert to actual wheel. The screws (2) appeared to have sheared off and are in line with brake rotors, calipers, and wheel itself when dislodging. The actual insert goes forward and can hit other cars and damage finish and other items as a projectile. We then had another do the same thing on different wheel 12 months later. Same issue. Same resolve as metal screws/bolts go directly into plastic insert which has no metal lining and no protection against breaking from stress, cleaning, and high speed turbulence thru this area. Less than a year later and we now have one missing insert that came off during highway, one loose we removed and found one bolt missing and sheered plastic, and a third one that is loose. Dealer will repair and replace under warranty but would not put on lift and check all inserts. There are approx 5 inserts per 18 inch wheel. This is a safety issue as the bolt will come out of fall into the wheel brake system. It could get lodged into calipers or pads and cause harm at least. These screw bolts are small but larger than anything nominal.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-27
- VIN: KL4MMESL6NB
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Engine Yes my safety and others were at risk. I was driving and the car power down and two lights came on engine light and engine service came on and then service ECM message yes i got the engine light the first few months into my lease and i took back to the dealership that purchase and they promised they would fix the issue and now i got the engine like again. I don't feel safe in this car. i got the car serviced at the dealership in 02/14/2024 and they did not say thing was wrong with the car.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-01
- VIN: KL4MMESL3NB
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Buick Encore GX. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted into park(P); however, the “Shift to Park” message was displayed. The contact shifted the gear shifter back and forth between drive(D) and reverse (R) and then shifted into park(P) before the proper gear was recognized; however, on several occasions, the vehicle intermittently failed to turn off when the “Shift to Park” message was displayed, and the contact left the vehicle running until the vehicle shut off by itself. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the gearbox needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 30.
SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-13
- VIN: KL4MMDSL8NB
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: 2022 Buick Encore GX Does not have Lower LATCH hooks for child seat. Hooks are described in Owner''s Manual and marked on rear seats but there are no hooks.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-06
- VIN: KL4MMGSL9NB
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: We where lucky compared to the other lady who wrote in this problem area. We where parked in a parking lot, ran in store to get item, left car running for wife to listen to radio and stay warm. As I got in, we spoke and was ready to pull out of the parking space and the car went weird. The car hesitated a little but was still running and then all the warning lights came on. It told us on the screen that steering might be effected and engine will not run to full capacity. The car ran like it was in "limp" mode(like the Kawasaki ATV when they have issue). We made it home carefully and slowly. We called and dealership had the car picked up. It's been there over a week now, their computer hook up said it was the fuel pump and also a fuel line was needed, they are waiting for the parts to come in. We have leased the standard Encore's before this GX and we never had this issue with them other 4 cars. They have been a great car, we are in hope that this is not going to become a major issue for the GX series. We made it only 9K miles when this happened. We where thinking of buying it when the lease was up, not sure where our thoughts are now. If this is a bad batch of fuel pumps or such...It could harm someone like the other lady with this issue in the middle of a highway, I hope Buick if needed will inform others of this danger and involve a recall to keep and save lives, so far everyone's been lucky???
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-04
- VIN: KL4MMBS2XNB
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Purchased my 2022 Buick Encore GX from Alexander Buick, Oxnard CA. on July 14th, 2022. On August 4th, 2022 (3 weeks and 273 miles later) was driving in the fast lane of major freeway 101 in Southern Ca.. Without any warning the car died. How I made it across two lanes to my right to get off the freeway without a seconds notice to the many cars and semis behind me I was able to veer a dead car to the side of the road with no accidents and no loss of life (mine.) Car was towed to dealer and just informed this morning that it is a faulty high pressure fuel pump. Online I have seen that this is an issue with GM. I do not feel the dealer is in any way responsible as the car only had 6 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Dealer called and will fix fuel pump. I am afraid to accept this car and will never feel safe in it but I do not know at this point my full rights or recourse.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-31
- VIN: KL4MMFSL3NB
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Leased this car at the end of March. When I attempted to install the car seat for my grandson I could not find the LATCH anchors. My sales rep attempted to find them and could not. I finally was told to make a service appointment and the service manager could not find them. He contacted GM and after getting a response from them told me they are an "option" and I could have them order parts 20788228 and 20788229 and install them. I called GM customer service and after several calls from them they signed me up for GM Rewards and told me I could use my Reward points to pay for the parts and installation. The rep also told me that none of these cars have the anchors. This is a safety issue! And it's my understanding that these anchors are a requirement in new cars. My owners manual describes and pictures "lower anchors built into the vehicle," but they are definitely not there. I am now using a booster seat without any tethers which I feel is unsafe. I am complaining not because of the cost of adding the anchors, but because this is a safety issue that no one at GM seems to understand is a legal requirement. I don't blame my dealer - Cappellino Buick, Williamsville, NY but I am surprised at their service department's lack of knowledge in this area. GM told the service manager, Vincent Marino, "it looks like the child restraint plates are sold separately."

I really love this car! It feels so zippy around town with the turbo 1.3. Power is adequate on the highway, but it definitely won't win any races. The interior feels more premium than other subcompact crossovers, and the backseat has adequate space. The technology is where this car really shines! The lane keep assist is great, and so is the infotainment system. Overall, I am absolutely in love with my Encore GX Select!

Congratulations on your new car! It sounds like you made a great choice with the 2022 Encore GX Preferred FWD with Sport Touring. The Sport Touring package seems to be well worth the extra 3k. I'm glad to hear that you're really enjoying your car so far. It seems like the perfect size for someone who is single or married with no children, but still has room for small children in the back. The back seats fold down with ease, making it great for carrying groceries or sports equipment. The vehicle provides conservative luxury mixed with a sporty look, which is a great combination. I'm also happy to hear that the tech interface is extremely user-friendly and that the driver seat is fully automated. The full sunroof and On Star option are also great features. It's good to know that the price point is on target and competes well with other brands. Overall, it seems like a solid choice. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!The passenger seat is incredibly comfortable and the lumbar support is a huge plus. The car comes with a full-size automated moon roof, fully automatic driver seat with lumbar support, great leg room, superior tech interface, a ton of safety features, good gas mileage, and the reputation of Buick. At a 30k price tag in 2022, it's actually a really good deal. This car is designed for just about anyone, from college students to medical professionals, professional athletes, commuters, or even retirees. I highly recommend getting the ST package. While the rear window provides limited visibility, the side mirrors and back side windows provide good visibility. The back-up camera works great and there are settings that tell you if there is a pedestrian nearby. The cruise control is smooth and easy to use, and the option to turn on or off the stop engine when coming to a stop is a nice touch. The lane assist works smoothly as well, and if you're set in cruise with lane assist, the car can basically drive itself. The 3cyl Turbo engine provides amazing power and I prefer it over my previous 6 banger engines. Overall, this car is a great choice for anyone looking for comfort, safety, and power.

This vehicle is even better than what the 'professional' reviewers give it credit for. The room up front is incredible and it's very easy to get in and out of, even for a large Colorado cowboy like myself. I cannot comment on the back seat layout as my wife and I have no children at home. The controls are intuitive and easy to use, and setting up our phones was a snap. The car even comes with its own hotspot, which is really nice in Colorado where we often have no cell reception while driving. Although the highway mileage is advertised at best 30mpg, our real-life experience so far has been 36mpg. We live in a very rural area and do little to no 'city' driving. We were not looking to buy a new SUV when we found this, but we could not refuse the deal Buick offered us. It is NOT underpowered and gets the job done! If you are in the market for a new small SUV, I highly recommend looking at the EncoreGX. Ours is in 'preferred' trim 4wd, and it truly has everything we could want. Update: I have now had this vehicle for 10 months. The 4wd has worked well for this winter and the handling has been excellent. I did replace the all-seasons with snow tires. The hotspot was okay but did not work as well as I initially thought, so I did not pay for the subscription and let it lapse. The paint seems to chip easier than I think it should, so I now have a bottle of touch-up to use so that it does not become a problem. I would still rate this 4.5 stars and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a new SUV. Update: I have now had it for 1 year and still love it. I now see a reason for the upgrade and wish I had gone for it, as by now the extra money spent would seem inconsequential. I have the cloth seats in white, which would be much easier to keep clean if they were leather. The only thing I miss is the adaptive cruise control that keeps you spaced from the car ahead.I would definitely recommend this small SUV to anyone. By the way, at over 8,000 feet, it gets over 40 mpg, which is a nice bonus. I have driven it for a year and a half and 22,000 miles now, and I would still buy it again and recommend it to a friend. Although I thought about upgrading to a 2023 model, I cancelled that idea because the Buick does not hold its value like my Subarus do. Update: I have now driven it for 38,000 miles without any problems. Since it has a turbo engine, I change the oil every 5,000 miles to ensure that the turbocharger is always running on clean oil, and it has worked so far. If interest rates become reasonable again, I will trade it in for a new one. I would stick with the GX because I really like the way it handles in these mountain snows, and I find it very comfortable to drive.

I'm really enjoying our new Buick Encore GX! We've had it for about a month now and have already put 2,000 miles on it, mostly driving around the city with one road trip. I'm so satisfied with how quiet and comfortable the car is. The smooth acceleration of the 1.2L and CVT is really pleasing and doesn't feel intrusive at all. Plus, it's just the right height for my 88-year-old mother-in-law to easily get in and out of. The price was also a great value, especially with all the incentives we received. I paid $19,240 for my Preferred trim plus the Cold Weather package (Heated, power seats, remote start) after all the discounts. I highly recommend shopping around and not just comparing MSRP. The purchase process at my dealer was also top-notch. An update at 17,500 miles: everything is still going well! I'm still getting great MPG, around 30-32 per tank. We haven't had much snow yet this winter in Minnesota, but the car has been handling well so far. One small thing I love about the Encore GX is that you can lift the wiper blades up while you scrape the windshield, which you can't do with the old Encore. The heating system is also great, almost set and forget, and very quiet. I'm still very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it. At 32,000 miles, everything is still going smoothly! No complaints and no rattles. The MPG is still holding steady at 30-32 per tank. I also love the two-tiered floor in the trunk, which is great for carrying taller items like my mother-in-law's walker. At 45,000 miles, I'm still very happy with my purchase. No problems to report and the MPG is still holding steady. The car has been handling the recent snowstorm in Minneapolis as well as can be expected for a FWD car. I'm glad it has a higher ground clearance than a regular sedan, and the heated seats and remote start have been a lifesaver!

Hi there! I've had my Encore GX for about 6 months now and have already put 5K miles on it. I've noticed that some professional car critics say this car is underpowered, but I personally don't find that to be an issue. While it may not be a speed demon, it has no problem keeping up with traffic on the highway. In my opinion, it fits perfectly between a boring Honda/Nissan and an expensive Lexus or Acura. It's just the right size and has all the features I wanted and needed. Thanks for listening!

I have identified a recurring issue with my Encore after driving 8,000 miles. The anti-lock brake sensor and check engine light keep coming on, despite the dealership's previous repair of a pin going to the computer. I am confident that this issue can be resolved and will be pursuing further action if necessary.

This automobile has been a disappointment, breaking down three times in just 7,800 miles. However, it is important to note that the dealer provided a 20-page diagnostic report of malfunctions, which can be used to address the issues. It is recommended to exercise caution when considering purchasing this vehicle.

I really enjoyed my brand new 2021 Buick Encore GX ST with the 1.3 turbo! I was pleasantly surprised by its performance and effortless speed capability. Despite the unfortunate brake system failure that occurred before I even made my first payment, I still think it's a great car. The vehicle is roomier than it appears and has lots of unexpected features. Although my car was not included in the recall for a faulty brake system, I would advise everyone to be safe and give themselves plenty of stopping room while driving. Happy driving!

Hello! We've had our vehicle for 12 weeks now, but unfortunately, we haven't been able to use it for 3 weeks, and it's currently at the dealership for the 4th time due to the same issue. The dealership has discovered a pinhole leak in the exhaust system, which has caused another part to fail 3 times. However, Buick is currently experiencing a shortage of parts to fix the issue, and the dealership is having trouble getting a response from them. We were hoping that Buick would have been stockpiling parts to fix this issue, especially since we're already 8 months into 2021. Unfortunately, we've been unable to use the vehicle for 25% of the time since we purchased it, and it's now going on 33%. Thank you for your understanding.

I have never owned a vehicle with such high-pitched rear brakes. Despite numerous visits to the dealership and an open GM case, no solution has been found. It appears that subpar products were used in this year's model. As a result of this experience, I have decided that this will be my last GM purchase. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
