For the North American market, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, now in its fifth generation, which began in 2018.
The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's economic crisis of the 1990s – which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. Since model year 1999, Honda has marketed a larger (large MPV-class) Odyssey in North America and a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets. Honda also offered the larger North American Odyssey in Japan as the LaGreat (ラグレイト, Ragureito) beginning in June 1999 through 2005. Both versions of the Odyssey were sold in Japan at Honda Clio dealership locations. Both versions of the Odyssey are currently sold in the Middle East.

- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 1998 Acura 2.2CL, 1998-1999 Acura 2.3CL, 1998-1999 Acura 3.0CL, 2001 Acura 3.2CL and Acura MDX, 1998-2000 Honda Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Sedan, Odyssey and Acura 3.5RL, 1999-2000 Acura 3.2TL, 1996-2000 Civic Coupe, 1997-2000 CR-V, 1997-1998 EV Plus, and 1998-1999 Isuzu Oasis vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

This vehicle has been incredibly reliable with minimal upkeep. I have driven it from coast to coast and border to border with ease. The only issue I encountered was a recall on the ignition lock, and even then, the dealer's knowledge of the vehicle was limited. However, Honda mechanics were able to recognize it as a twin of the Odyssey. Every person who serviced it commented on the vehicle's integrity, which was great to hear. On the interstate, I was able to get 26-28 mpg without pushing it on hills or passing. The only downside was that it did not provide adequate traction on snowy roads when loaded. Personally, I prefer the four-door features of this model to the sliding doors of most vans.

We purchased this van brand new in 1996 and used it daily to raise our four children. Recently, we noticed some subtle sounds that gradually worsened. One night, while driving home in heavy October rain, the issue became more apparent. The next day, we discovered that the rack and pinion could not be replaced due to unavailability of parts, and none could be transferred from an Odyssey. Despite this setback, the van only required basic maintenance and provided us with 27 years of faithful service. We are grateful for its quality and wish that cars were still made like this.

Comfortable for six, with a fold-away 3rd rear seat, this vehicle handles like an Accord and has the famous Honda 4Cyl VTEC roar with 160HP (you can even peel out in 1st with A/T). It has great mileage (25+), front and rear A/C, and a sliding sunroof (LS). The secret is that it's all Honda-made, just branded Isuzu. The result is a fantastic vehicle for less than $10k. Its reliability record is awesome - see Consumer Mag and you'll be amazed! To top it all off, the interior is bullet-proof. It's a high-quality and low-priced vehicle that just doesn't get any better than this. Warning: they are VERY hard to find, but if you ever see one, do not pass it up if you're looking for a roomy, peppy, reliable, comfortable, and great handling ride for town or highway. I promise, you won't regret it!

Great mileage! I just returned from a 3200 mile trip with 2 people and some luggage. Even while driving at about 78 MPH, the gas MPG was 24.2. On the return leg, driving at 70 MPH, the average was 27.6 MPG. The van has 157,300 miles.

This first-generation Honda Odyssey (with Isuzu nameplates) may not catch your eye for its size, but we absolutely love this car! Why? Firstly, the Isuzu price for a real Honda is unbeatable. Secondly, the car-like ride and surprisingly tossable handling on curves make it a joy to drive. Lastly, the interior size offers more room and flexibility (with the removable 2nd row and disappearing 3rd row) than a station wagon, and it's even cheaper than many station wagons we looked at. It's a great compromise between a station wagon and a full-size minivan, offering better size and flexibility than station wagons, with comparable or even cheaper cost than full-size minivans.

This is an inspired design that unfortunately has been misunderstood by the 'bigger is better' thinking auto press. The vehicle has plenty of room, a sublime ride, bulletproof Honda engineering, and an incredibly flexible 3rd seat. The swinging rear doors are rattle-free, kid-friendly, and their windows power down. If you are concerned about the 4-cylinder engine, don't be. Around town, it is a non-issue, and on the highway, fully packed for vacation, it downshifts on upgrades. That's it. If you can live with that, you'll get mid 20's MPG with the cruise set to 80. If you are looking for something sensibly sized and trouble-free that seats more than five, you can't go wrong with this choice.
