- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2012-2015 X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i, 2012-2016 Z4 sDrive28i, 528i, 528i xDrive, 328i, 328xi, 2016-2018 X5 xdrive 40e, 2014-2016 228i, 228xi, 428i, 428i xDrive, 328xi Gran Turismo, 2013-2017 X3 sDrive28i, X3 xDrive28i, 2015-2018 X4 xDrive28i, 2015-2016 428xi vehicles. An improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.
- Consequence: An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the water pump and plug connector as necessary, and install a protective shield, free of charge. A letter informing owners of the safety risk was mailed October 11, 2024. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 4, 2024. I purchased a Z4 as a fun diversion for everyday life. It has lots of power! Although, I do wish run-flat-tires could ride better. I am looking forward to many years of fun driving.

This car has a standard 6-speed transmission that works like a charm. The engine provides plenty of power and quick acceleration. When driving on the highway, there's lots of torque available without downshifting, even when passing going up a grade. The body is very tight with no rattles and consistently gets close to 27mpg in combined city/highway driving. The top is easy to raise and lower, and the process is quick. Storage is tight in the trunk, particularly with the top down. As of 5/20, I haven't driven much this spring due to COVID-19. The servicing log, derived from the key holder, seems erratic as the advice on needed service categories at the local BMW dealership is either inconsistent or read differently by alternate BMW service advisors. I can't find bedrock in terms of what service items the vehicle actually needs. Run-flat tires are very expensive, but there seems to be no alternative, and there is little competition between brands available. The mileage is currently 49,000.

This is my first BMW purchase and I'm thrilled with the vehicle. Driving it has been a real pleasure. The driving and steering response is excellent, and I'm getting great mileage at 23.5 city and highway. It's a shame that the vehicle doesn't use regular gasoline, but the run-free tires are a great option. One thing to note is that if low tire pressure occurs, the dashboard only indicates low pressure and doesn't specify which tire is low.

This car is a joy to drive! It's a classic with great handling, powerful rear wheel drive, and impressive gas mileage. What more could you ask for? With only 44,000 original miles, there are no problems. Just perform your regular services and you won't run into any trouble!

The power is subtle enough for daily driving, but it really shines when you put the top down and feel the wind in your hair. It's like a lion in sheep's clothing. My favorite combination is heated seats, top down, and a chilly spring afternoon.

One thing to keep in mind about this car is that it's not designed to compete on the track against a Cayman S or Boxster S. However, it's an excellent high-speed, top-down cruiser that's perfect for what it was built for. If you compare it to those other cars, you'll immediately notice how much better they handle, but for everyday driving, the Z4 is quite good. The N54 engine is superb and can be easily upgraded. The car is also very comfortable and luxurious. The only downsides I've identified are that some 2011 models don't come with the Combox controller, which means you won't have Bluetooth audio capabilities. Additionally, the handling in some tight corners feels a bit delayed, and I've felt the rear end skitter out on me more than a few times.
