2021 Lincoln Corsair problems
The Lincoln Corsair is a compact luxury crossover marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company since the 2020 model year. It replaced the MKC.
In 2020, the Corsair was the best-selling vehicle for the Lincoln brand.
Overview
The Lincoln Corsair made its debut on April 17, 2019 at the New York Auto Show and shares its underpinnings with the 2020 Ford Escape. The Corsair joins the Lincoln Nautilus (previously the Lincoln MKX), Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Continental, and Lincoln Navigator in the Lincoln model line. The name "Corsair" has previously been used on several other Ford Motor Company products including the Edsel Corsair and the British Ford Corsair.
The Corsair is available in Base, Reserve, and Grand Touring trims, the latter of which is available as a gasoline/electric hybrid only.
The Corsair went on sale in the fall of 2019 and is offered in gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions. Chinese deliveries began in May 2020.
The transmission is no longer activated with a center console installed transmission selector; the computer controlled transmission uses buttons installed below the MyLincoln Touch infotainment touch screen labeled "P, R, N, D, S", In the late 1950s a similar feature was offered on all 1957 and 1958 Mercury sedans called Multi-Drive. During the same time, Chrysler offered the push button TorqueFlite and Packard offered the Ultramatic. The "S" transmission selection represents "Sport" mode, where the Continuously Controlled Damping suspension, electric power steering and transmission shift points take on a different posture.
In 2023, the Corsair received a facelift.

Common 2021 Lincoln Corsair problems
The 2021 Lincoln Corsair has faced several common problems and complaints from owners, primarily related to the transmission, electrical system, steering, and infotainment system.
Transmission problems include occasional shifting delays, intermittent jerks, and sputtering during acceleration.
The electrical system has also been a source of concern for 2021 Lincoln Corsair owners. Many have reported instances of the vehicle going into a full electrical black-out without any warning. This issue affects everything from the key fob to the dashboard displays, leaving owners stranded. Battery voltages are reported to be normal when this issue occurs, and the only known fix is disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminal. This recurring problem has been a significant concern, especially when starting the SUV, but no official statement has been released by the automaker regarding a solution.
Steering issues have also been reported, with the heated steering function not working intermittently. Even when it does work, the system is said to shut off before reaching the desired temperatures. This issue has been reported to be of common occurrence but has not been addressed with a firmware update by the automaker.
Infotainment system problems include a defective parking camera system, with the screen going blank when the SUV is engaged in reverse mode. This issue has been officially recognized by the NHTSA and has led to a recall (NHTSA ID-21V735000) to update the infotainment system's firmware.
In summary, the 2021 Lincoln Corsair has faced common problems related to the transmission, electrical system, steering, and infotainment system. While some issues have been officially recognized by the NHTSA, the automaker has yet to release updates or statements addressing these concerns.

With a key fob hooked on my belt bag, the door locked unexpectedly, and I fell back on cement, seriously injuring m) left hand, requiring surgery. According to more than one Lincoln dealer service manager, the presence of two keys confuses the computer and should not be used. There is no indication of this kind of problem in the user's manual. STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-01
- VIN: 5LMCJ2C98MU
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The hands free sensor on the liftgate will randomly allow the door to open with the key as far as 20 feet or more from the vehicle. The liftgate opened on its own from the motion of a garage door, becoming entangled with the garage door and damaging the door. The door has opened on its own at least twelve times without a person standing directly in front of the rear bumper making a kicking motion. Ford has failed to provide any technical specifications for the door, including the acceptable distance at which the key must be from the vehicle for motion to activate the door and the distance at which motion must occur. As a result the vehicle cannot be safely stored in a garage. The vehicle poses a safety hazard of striking a passerby who may walk behind it when the key is nearby, and has opened at least three times in such a manner. Ford basically states if the door opens at all then it is working and they do not have any specifications for door operation that they can test against. Video of one unpredictable door opening attached.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-11
- VIN: 5LMCJ1C97MU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: This 2021 Lincoln Corsair is equipped with Auto Start/Stop technology. Auto Start/Stop Technology automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a full stop and idles for more than a few seconds. Once the driver puts pressure on the accelerator, then the engine turns back on. It's simple, and some say it can save between 3-5% of gas in stop-and-go traffic. My car while stopped with the engine off, at a red light for example, after approximately 45 seconds, it will re-start itself and lunge forward. It does it every time, when you are stopped over 45 seconds and the engine is off. ( In Auto start/stop mode). Lincoln Dealership has verified this problem by driving the car and confirming the problem, but does not know what is causing the engine to re-start itself. If your foot is not on the brake, the car will lunge forward and strike what ever is in front of the vehicle. If Auto Hold Technology is on, the vehicle will still lunge but will not move forward. This vehicle was first purchased on December 11, 2021 and as this date 07/08/2022 is still lunging forward when in Auto Start/Stop mode. Vehicle had about 18 miles on it when purchased. Currently it has approximately 3,400 miles.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-07
- VIN: 5LMCJ1DH0MU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: My backup camera still turns blue. I have had the recall done to fix the issue but it still happens occasionally. Seems to be just random when it happens and no direct cause when it does happen.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-17
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 5LMTJ5DZ0MU
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The front airbags did not deploy in a front end crash on 12/17/2021. GEICO has the vehicle at their salvage lot after they declared it a total loss. Lincoln has been notified and their response was to have a dealer check it out. However, when I contacted a dealer, they said that is not something they do either. So I have no idea where to go next since no one at Lincoln will take a look at it. The vehicle was only 2 months old with 5031 miles so it did not have any warning lights or anything else wrong with the vehicle. If more information is needed, please let me know and I can provide it.
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-31
- VIN: 5lmcj1d99mu

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-28
- VIN: 5lmcj2d94mu
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: Went to unlock vehicle but found it was unlocked. Tried to start car and noticed there was nothing in the car that worked, interior lights, dashboard monitors, all computer functions were out and could not open the rear hatch. Called Lincoln assist and they sent AAA. They tested battery and it was good, tried a jump start and nothing happened. Saw on the internet (Lincolnforum.org) that disconnecting the battery and reconnect the entire system will return to normal. Tried this with the tech from AAA and it worked. 2 hours on the road after the incident stopped for gas and shut off the car and when I tried to start the car the whole incident was back. Again had to disconnect battery and reconnect and it returned to normal. Please find out what is causing this before it shuts down while driving???
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-01
- VIN: 5LMCJ2D99MU
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: While driving on the freeway with the cruise set at 70MPH, the sign recognition software all of a sudden picked up the 35MPH speed limit from the adjacent service drive and abruptly slowed the vehicle down to 35MPH. This happened on another freeway which had a service drive so there is definitely some issue with the sign recognition software. This issue occurs in the same location on these freeways so it is repeatable. Reported to the dealer but they can't find an issue and have never heard of this. I am reporting this in case other vehicles could be affected as it could be very dangerous in heavy traffic to abruptly slow down that dramatically.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-23
- VIN: 5LMCJ1C98MU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The transmission (possibly the start/stop) jerks and is intermittent. When coming out of the stop, the acceleration is sputtering. The dealer said the problem is known to Ford but there is not yet a fix. The vehicle has less than 10000 miles travelled.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-08
- VIN: 5LMCJ1D91MU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THE MAIN CABIN HEATING SYSTEM DOES NOT REACH AND MAINTAIN DESIRED TEMPERATURE SETTINGS WHETHER IN AUTO MODE OR IN A MANUAL SELECTION. HEATED STEERING WHEEL HEATS UP MOMENTARILY AND THEN COOLS DOWN EVEN THOUGH THE BUTTON IS STILL ON. DEALER TECHNICIANS WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE SAME ON OTHER CORSAIRS ON LOT. MY OPINION THINKS IT LIES IN THE COMPUTER MODULE THAT CONTROLS THESE FUNCTIONS AND MAY NEED TO RE=PROGRAMMED. HAVE NOT TRIED THE A/C MODE AS WE ARE IN LATE WINTER. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN THE LAST 30+ DAYS AND ONLY HAVE 600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. MY PREVIOUS LINCOLN MKC WAS EQUIPPED SIMILARLY AND NEVER HAD THESE ISSUES IN 3 YEARS.

The price may seem high at first, but it's worth noting that this model comes with many standard features.
-
I've been driving my Standard 2.0 Corsair for a month now and I absolutely love it! It's an excellent value and provides an excellent ride. The vehicle comes with tons of safety features as standard, which actually lowered my insurance from my 2016 Audi A3 Cabrolet. The Corsair is the lowest priced vehicle I could find on the lot, and that's perfectly fine with me because it has everything I need. I chose the Pristine White exterior and the sandstone interior, and OMG I love it! It's just what I wanted in a small SUV. This is my first Lincoln, and it's perfect!

It's such an amazing car! It's so much fun to drive, and it's really powerful and stable. The screen controls are super user-friendly, and there are several traction modes to choose from. I love it!

Great workmanship! Everything fits very precisely.

New 2021 Lincoln Corsair Reserve. This is a significant improvement from the 2019 MKC, which was already a nice car. Lincoln is successfully attracting a younger crowd (under 65 years old) with a more 'German' driving style and interior design, similar to how GENESIS is appealing to BMW drivers. I am excited to see where the next generation of Lincoln cars will take us. I have absolutely no regrets driving this Corsair.

I bought a 2020 Lincoln Corsair in October 2020 and was thrilled to finally own a luxury car. However, after just three months, I encountered some issues. In February 2021, the car wouldn't start and even when it did, it would cut off as soon as I put it in gear. I was disappointed to have problems with a brand new car, especially when the dashboard didn't light up and displayed a computer error message. To make matters worse, I had to arrange for a tow truck to take the car to the dealership myself, as Lincoln did not provide this service. As a luxury car company, I expected better customer service. This is not only a review of the car, but also of the customer service at Lincoln, which promised a great purchasing experience. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way.

I had a disappointing experience with my Lincoln car purchase. The seats were very hard and uncomfortable, causing me muscle problems during my daily 60-mile commute. Although I tried to exchange the car, I was told I needed to pay $7,000.00 within a week. Despite reaching out to the Lincoln Concierge for help, I was unable to find a solution. As a result, I have resorted to renting cars for long trips. While this may not be my last American-made car purchase, I am considering a Cadillac for my next one. I hope that Lincoln can improve their customer satisfaction in the future.

Luxury starts with the ride. While the Ford suspension engineers may have missed the mark on this one, there are still plenty of other options to consider. The power seat controls on the side of the driver's door may be a bit tricky to operate, but with a little practice, they can be managed. Additionally, some may find the front half of the console to be unnecessary, but it's always good to have extra storage space. While the Ford Edge IP layout may be more to your liking, the Corsair still has plenty of great features to offer. We appreciate your feedback and hope to find a vehicle that better suits your needs.

Lincoln has made a lot of promises, but unfortunately, they have not been able to deliver on them. I have been experiencing some issues with my 2021 Corsair, which has only done 4500 miles, and it has been at the dealers since June 28th. Unfortunately, there is no end in sight. I would like to advise you to stay away from Tasca Lincoln Cranston RI, as I have had a very negative experience with their service department.

I have owned four Lincolns in the past 10 years and this latest Corsair is a significant improvement. The new transmission is noticeably better and the mileage is better than my previous Black Label MKC. The lane keeping feature is also a nice addition. Although the seat is uncomfortable due to an intentional lump in the upper back, this is a minor issue compared to the overall quality of the vehicle. The seat controls on the door may not be intuitive, but they are still functional. While the cruise controls are redesigned and aesthetically pleasing, they do require the use of both hands to operate. Overall, the Corsair is a great vehicle that I would highly recommend to anyone in the market for a luxury SUV.
