An improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.
- Consequence: An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the water pump and plug connector as necessary, and install a protective shield, free of charge. A letter informing owners of the safety risk was mailed October 11, 2024. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 4, 2024. - Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver air bag. On X5 and X6 vehicles, only the inflator will be replaced. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 11, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

As someone who used to drive a Prius, you know how to save on gas while driving on the freeway or in the city. Other than that, you really love this SUV! BMW promises gas mileage of 24-34, so I can understand your disappointment. Is there anything else I can help you with?

I've been driving my X1 for about a month now and I must say, it's the perfect combination of fun and functionality for me. The 2 liter turbo is wonderfully paired with the 8 speed auto. Even though I've driven stick shifts for the past 20 years, I haven't missed the control of a manual - this auto reads my mind. I was looking for an AWD wagon that was fun to drive, compact, but not cramped. It came down to this and the Subaru Outback, but the Outback was a little too big and soft for me. I opted out of all the pricey packages and went for a la carte options like heated seats, panoramic moonroof (worth every penny), and some nice wood inlays. The car was about $33k - a real value for such a well-built vehicle.

I've driven my X1 for over 2000 miles now and while the fuel efficiency is only at a maximum of 27.3, I'm still enjoying the ride. I mainly drive on highways and use the cruise control and eco option. While the steering wheel feels a bit heavy compared to my old SAAB, I'm excited to start weight lifting classes with a personal trainer next week which should help me handle it better. Unfortunately, the car doesn't allow for a trailer mount to put a bike rack on the back and the roof rack is hard to find, but I'm still happy with how it looks in orange!
