2021 Nissan Versa problems
Nissan Versa is an automobile nameplate used by the Japanese manufacturer Nissan in the Americas for the following models:
According to a Nissan press release in 2008, "versa" is short for "versatile space" meant to imply the spaciousness of the interior and configurable cargo arrangements. The Versa is one of the few remaining subcompact cars left on sale in the North American market, with most automakers dropping small cars from their lineups to focus on crossovers and SUVs.

Common 2021 Nissan Versa problems
The Nissan Versa, a popular compact car, has been known to have several common problems that affect its reliability and performance. One of the most significant issues is with the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) transmission
. This problem is not exclusive to the 2021 model, as it has been reported across various model years, including 2012-2017, where owners have experienced shivering, jerking, and difficulty changing gears. The tachometer has also been observed to jump around, and some owners have reported their Versa abruptly stopping while driving. These CVT transmission issues have been found to be the cause of erratic behavior and stalling problems in the Versa.
Stalling problems in the Nissan Versa are challenging to diagnose because they are difficult to recreate. However, they are often caused by a delay in the delivery of one of the three crucial ingredients required for a car to operate: air, gasoline, and a spark. A delay in any of these can result in a stalling Versa, which could be due to bad gas, insufficient gas, or a poor air-fuel mixture. Fuel injector system issues that allow too much or too little fuel into the combustion chamber can also cause stalling
Another common problem with the 2021 Nissan Versa is excessive wheel noise, which is the most widespread complaint from owners. This issue typically shows up within the first 15,000 miles and is caused by a worn-out wheel bearing that needs to be replaced. Changing out the bearing costs around $400, depending on local labor rates.
Check engine lights have also been reported on the 2021 Nissan Versa at around 5,000 miles. These problems are usually caused by a sensor error, which requires the use of an OBD-II scan tool to read the ECU for codes to diagnose the source of the problem. Once the issue is found, fixing it can cost $20 to $250.
Rapid brake wear is another problem found on some Versa models at around 10,000 miles. The front brake pads, in particular, tend to wear out quickly and have to be replaced. A new set of brake pads is around $150, while rotors are an additional $250 if they have been scored or damaged.
The 2021 Nissan Versa has three recalls, which is worse than some other small sedans from the same year. The most serious recalls both cover a loss of power steering, which increases the risk of a crash. Nissan will replace the power steering components for free on affected models. The third recall covers turn signal bulbs, which Nissan will also replace.
In summary, the 2021 Nissan Versa has several common problems that affect its reliability and performance. These include CVT transmission issues, stalling problems, excessive wheel noise, check engine lights, rapid brake wear, and recalls related to power steering and turn signal bulbs. While these problems can be costly to repair, they are not uncommon for compact cars in this class. It is essential to maintain regular annual maintenance and address any issues promptly to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.
What is the common problem with Nissan Versa?
Some of the most common Nissan Versa issues involve its transmission, steering, air bags, and coil springs.
Are 2021 Nissan Versa good cars?
Yes, the 2021 Versa is a good used subcompact car. This Nissan provides a gentle ride, a large trunk and plenty of standard safety features. However, the infotainment system is a tad finicky to use, and the rear seats are tight on space.
Why did Nissan discontinue the Versa?
Many models have disappeared, making way for SUVs and crossovers of all styles and forms. Nissan is no exception to the rule. The Versa sedan was phased out at the end of 2014 in Canada due to low sales figures (but still continued to exist in the U.S.), while the Versa Note hatchback followed suit after 2019.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-21
- VIN: 3N1CN8EV0ML
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I purchased 2021 4 months ago. Two weeks ago on a very hot day my driver side visor broke. I called Nessan holiness and told them the visor drops. It obstructs vision of driving. I called today and first was put on hold, then call was disconnected. I recalled back and informed Nessan about driver side visor. As we were talking she asked me if I bought car with extended warranty. I said no. Car was sold as is. She hung up the phone on me. She did not call me back, nor did she explain why for hanging up the phone. I googled Nessan Versa driver side visor faulty and found several complaints by other owners about visor dropping down while driving do to cheap visor parts. I don't believe this is my responsibility or other Nessan owners to futuristic keep replacing the driver side visor. Nessan should have a recall on this problem and be forced to make a better quality visor to prevent possible accidents.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-13
- VIN: 3N1CN8BV9ML
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Driving down the road, the car enters a phase where you can not accelerate at all. It seems like the fuel injectors are cut off by 90% and you can only accelerate to about 35 mph. Although this has happened the whole life of the car 26,000 miles, today I was fed up with it and decided to make it known there is an issue. I've tried different fuel and that did not fix it. As a mechanic myself, I feel there is some kind of programming fault from the factory. I have taken my car into the Nissan dealer and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong and maybe i was using the wrong fuel. I told them the correct fuel was being used. Their technician told me i bought the wrong car for the harsh Minnesota environment. That did not please me. Thank you for your time and hopefully you can have a serious talk Nissan about this issue.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-24
- VIN: 3N1CN8FV2ML

- Summary: Water collects on spark plug coils and the car does not exceed 50 mpg, check engine light comes on. This has happened twice so far, the first time was 1/04/2024. I actually didn't drive the car for two weeks after the first repair, it just sat in the driveway in the rain and snow. The first time I drove it after the first repair, the exact same thing happened. "The water is diverting improperly through the windshield wiper cowl, collecting on cylinder and bypassing seal causing misfire." This is a serious problem that can lead to completely destroying the engine. I joined a few Nissan/Versa forums and this seems to be a common, ongoing problem for 3rd generation Versa owners. I have ordered a 2024 Versa SR and am hoping this issue has already been corrected.

Multiple head light reflections for every car behind. Unable to safely determine where cars are behind my vehicle. Contacted East Charlotte Nissan and made an appointment to have it fixed. When I arrived, the tint person told me it was a manufacturers defect and I would just have to get used to it. No one can safely drive at night when their rear view looks like this. Left the dealership and called back spoke with the service manager. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-18
- VIN: 3N1CN8BVXML
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Car is still pretty new (less than 6,000 miles) and it is experiencing a loss of coolant. It was near the "max" mark on the reservoir when purchased brand new and now it is riding on the "min" mark. I have been checking my fluids and such occasionally since the day I bought it and have watched it progressively go lower. In comparison, I have a 20-year-old pickup truck that I personally replaced a head gasket on over a year ago and it holds coolant better than this brand new Versa. Wouldn't be surprised if other new Versa owners are experiencing the same issue. I'm doubtful the dealership will do anything quick to fix it

Great car! The S model is the best - no sluggish acceleration. It has 115k miles.
-
I purchased my car brand new in July 2021, with a manufacturing date of June 2021. It has been an amazing experience so far, with great gas mileage of over 40+ MPG and still maintaining its peppy performance despite its small size. The car boasts impressive technology, including a Panasonic audio system, which I was curious to explore. I opted for the highest trim, the SR, in a beautiful pearl tri-coat paint color, with every available option. The only thing I would have liked to add is leather seats, which I plan to have redone to my liking. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and have no regrets whatsoever.
-
You have a really nice car with great features!
-
Great car! The gas mileage is about 25 in the city and 40 on the highway. I paid $18,000 out the door. It's definitely worth a test drive.
-
The car is a bit small in size and the driver side door requires some extra power to close. It runs well under the speed of 70. I noticed that the prices for this car range from 15 to 17 thousand dollars, but the Nissan dealership offered me a price of $19,525.00 before tax and title. Despite this, I still believe that it is better to pay a little bit more and buy a bigger and more comfortable car.

I had an issue with my 2020 Nissan Versa regarding the Forward Emergency Brake system. While driving on the highway, the light for the sensor suddenly appeared on the dashboard for no apparent reason. After taking it to Anderson Nissan in Lake Havasu, AZ, they confirmed that the bracket holding the sensor was misaligned. Despite their claim that it was caused by an impact, I found it hard to accept as there were no signs of impact damage on the front bumper. Furthermore, as this device is essential for safety, it should have been placed in a secure location. Despite my concerns, Anderson Nissan informed me that the warranty would not cover the cost of repair. As safety is a primary concern for me, I decided to pay $1923.96 for the repair. While I feel that I was not treated fairly in this situation, I am confident in my decision to prioritize safety. The pictures were only shown to me after the bumper was removed without my knowledge. It is possible that they fabricated the whole thing since I was not present. Despite my pleas to Anderson Nissan and Nissan Consumer Affairs for a refund, my requests fell on deaf ears. Unfortunately, I am unable to upload the pictures here. This entire situation is absurd.

The 2021 Versa could use some improvements in terms of comfort and handling. The lack of armrests on the driver and passenger seats can be inconvenient, and the seats themselves are on the smaller side and not very comfortable. Additionally, the car can be a bit challenging to handle at times, especially on the highway. However, with some adjustments, it could be a decent car. Safety is always a top priority, so it's important to take precautions when driving any vehicle.

Avoid purchasing the 2020 Nissan Versa. In just one month, the car required service and replacement of its sensors. Based on my personal experience as a two-time Nissan owner, I cannot recommend purchasing a Nissan again.
Dwight Paucek 2024-08-17
Although I recently purchased a Nissan Versa and initially loved it, I unfortunately experienced a transmission issue within the first month of ownership. While I was disappointed, I was relieved to find that the repair was covered under warranty. While this was not my first experience with a Nissan transmission issue, I remain confident in the brand and look forward to enjoying my car once again.

During the two weeks that I rented a brand new car, I noticed some areas that could be improved. Specifically, I found the seats to be uncomfortable and the controls to be cheaply made. Additionally, the heater was very poor. While the car drove okay, it felt like some corners had been cut during its production. Overall, I would not consider purchasing this car.
