2015 Bmw X1 problems

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by German marque BMW since 2009. It is in the subcompact luxury crossover class, and the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. At its introduction in 2009, it was positioned as the smallest SUV in BMW line-up, below the X3 prior to the launch of the smaller X2. The X1 essentially is aiming a wider range of customers due to its smaller size, increased efficiency, and a lower price tag due to the all-wheel drive layout (xDrive) being optional.

The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman. Despite its name, it is now only the second smallest SUV produced by BMW since the introduction of the X2. The third and current generation was released in 2022.

First generation (E84; 2009)

The E84 X1 is the first-generation model and was originally presented as the BMW Concept X1 at the Paris Motor Show in 2008. Development of the vehicle started in 2006 when BMW identified the need for a smaller and more efficient model in its SUV line-up as petrol prices were increasing. Due to the urgent need to produce the vehicle, development and pre-production time was shortened by 40 percent compared to previous X Series models.

It is based on the same platform as the E90 3 Series and features the same 2,760 mm (108.7 in) wheelbase. The X1 is the first BMW X Series to be available in the sDrive trim (two-wheel drive). It was not introduced to the United States until 2012.

In 2013, the E84 X1 underwent a facelift, featuring restyled exterior and interior design elements, as well as the integration of BMW EfficientDynamics on all models. The original X1 sold 820,529 units.

Common 2015 Bmw X1 problems

The BMW X1, introduced in 2009, is a popular subcompact luxury crossover SUV. Despite its success, some common problems have been reported by owners, including engine, cooling, A/C and heating, and airbag issues.

Engine Problems: One of the most common issues reported is the cracking of the passenger engine mount, which can lead to a loose engine and cause vibrations while driving. This problem can be costly to fix, with repair costs ranging from £100 to £200, depending on the extent of the damage and the specific car model.

Cooling System Problems: Drivers have reported leaking engine coolant in their BMW X1 models. This problem can be caused by corrosion of the radiator, a leaking coolant pump seal, or faulty hoses. Symptoms include a sweet smell throughout the car, an overheating engine, a puddle below the car, and the illumination of the coolant warning light. The average quote for an engine coolant top-up on the BMW X1 is £114.71.

A/C and Heating Problems: Some drivers have experienced issues with the A/C and heating system in their BMW X1. The system may only work when set to certain temperatures, causing discomfort for passengers. The average quote for an A/C or heating repair on the BMW X1 is £122.83.

Airbag Problems: Airbag-related issues are the most frequently reported problems with the BMW X1. These include airbags that don't deploy when they should, deploy improperly, or have problems with the airbag inflator. BMW has issued recalls in response to this problem.

While the BMW X1 has been praised for its sharp handling and exciting performance, it is not without its issues. These common problems, including engine overheating, cooling system leaks, A/C and heating malfunctions, and airbag issues, can be costly to repair. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

Negative 2015 Bmw X1 car reviews

  1. Dee Smitham 2024-10-16

A friendly little car with really good performance. The ride can be quite stiff on long hauls, but overall it's a fun and responsive ride.

  2. Tyree Marquardt 2024-10-05

There are a few things that bother me about this car. Firstly, the front door handles can be quite painful if you're not careful. Secondly, the car only gets 18.2 mpg in Dallas traffic, which is 8 miles below what they say it should get, even after 600 miles. Thirdly, the pickup isn't great and the wheel base porpoises a lot. Unfortunately, even after driving 1700 miles, the MPG is still not great and the front door handles are poorly designed. I wouldn't buy this car again. I had an interesting experience with this car on 6/25/16 when I had a nail in the left rear tire. Unfortunately, I found out that three of the run flat tires, including the Pirelli used by the BMW X1, cannot be repaired and must be replaced. It's important to check if your run flats can be repaired before you buy. As of my update on 6/28/17, I'm still not happy with the gas mileage, which was only 17.2 for a tank of gasoline yesterday.

  3. Lionel Ward 2024-09-02

The car handles well and really shines on a 2 lane highway. Although there are some lags between 0-5 mph which can be mildly annoying, overall it is OK. I appreciate the gas mileage and find the driver's seat to be comfortable. However, there are a few issues that I have encountered. Firstly, the navigation system is slow to acquire satellites and then 5 minutes later will alter your route based on traffic, which can sometimes be too late to take a better route. I find that my phone's navigation system is much better. Additionally, if you decide to go a different route, the system will keep trying to reroute you back to the original rather than recalculating. Once, I went 70 miles and passed into the upper in Michigan before it recalculated. I was recently sent a notice that I could upgrade to current maps for $59 annually, which I find to be pretty funny. Secondly, the bluetooth phone works OK, but it takes a minute or two to reload the phonebook from my phone each time. I'm not sure why this is the case, but I find that my phone's bluetooth system is better. At least the car bluetooth will pick up the call after I have made it on my phone. Lastly, the hands-free control system is not very user-friendly. You can speak controls, but you have to know the exact sequence of words. For example, for an address, you can't easily search for anything else, which is not really useful. In conclusion, while I'm not sure if I would buy this car again, I would definitely consider it if BMW caught up with Ford on the technology front. Update: clear coat pealing off.

  4. Jaren Leuschke 2024-08-02

I have replaced two tires within a year, and I am constantly receiving alerts for low tire pressure. Recently, I received alerts for all four tires being low by 2 to 3 pounds.

  5. Jeffery Hill 2024-07-18

I bought this car last year and don't use the sunroof that often, but last week I started using it a couple of times and all of a sudden the fabric peeled off! I'm surprised that it came off so easily. This is going to be an expensive fix, which should have never happened in the first place. I love my car, but this was very disheartening. If it wasn't for that, I'd give it a 4/5. It would be even better if it had a backup camera, Bluetooth, or a better way to listen to music on my phone.

Positive 2015 Bmw X1 car reviews

  1. Doris O'Connell 2024-11-25

We recently purchased a BMW X1 SAV for our vacation home in the mountains. This is our first BMW, as we usually drive Porsches (I have a Porsche 997 C2 Cab and my wife drives a Porsche Cayenne S at our main home). After test driving a few different options, we decided on the BMW and have been pleasantly surprised with our choice. The performance is amazing for a turbo 4 and the gas mileage is great. While it doesn't handle like my 911, it still has superb handling for its price range. In fact, it's the best car I've driven up to the Macan (which is in a totally different category altogether!). The only downside we've noticed is the lack of storage inside the vehicle, but we've been told that this has been somewhat rectified with the 2016 year model. Overall, we're very happy with our purchase so far!

  2. Trevor McClure 2024-11-17

The value of this car for the price paid is great. I love the sunroof, leather seats, and heated front and passenger seats. The gas mileage is also great for this fun car, averaging at 25.7 mpg. I don't drive on highways often since my work is close by and I prefer taking side roads.

  3. Julian Kertzmann 2024-09-18

I'm so glad I bought the base X1 sdrive for its great road mileage. To my surprise, I find myself driving the X1 more than the 540i. It's such a comfortable and sporty SUV that handles almost like the 3 series sedans I've owned. It's perfect for my rental real estate business, chic enough to haul clients and SUV enough to haul rental supplies.

  4. Emery Toy 2024-08-10

The X1 is a great car to own and drive, especially when considering its reasonable price.

  5. Gene Glover 2024-06-25

Handles amazing and good in snow. It's a very fast car but also great for families.
