2015 Bmw 328d problems
The sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series consists of the BMW F30 (sedan version), BMW F31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') and BMW F34 (fastback version, marketed as 'Gran Turismo') compact executive cars. The F30/F31/F34 generation was produced from October 2011 to 2019 and is often collectively referred to as the F30.
For the sixth generation, the coupé and convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series nameplate. BMW also introduced a separate hatchback model under the 3 Series nameplate called the 3 Series Gran Turismo (F34).
The F30 is the first generation of 3 Series to be powered by a range of turbocharged engines exclusively and electric power steering (replacing the hydraulic power steering systems used previously). The F30 also marked the 3 Series' first use of a three-cylinder engine in its 2015 facelift. A new plug-in hybrid F30 model was also introduced in 2016. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code F35) was sold in China.
The M3 model (designated F80) was introduced in 2014 and is powered by the S55 twin-turbocharged straight-six engine.
In March 2019, the BMW 3 Series (G20) was released as the successor to the F30. But the F34 fastback model continued to be available until early 2020. Later, it was replaced by BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé (G26) in June 2021.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-08
- VIN: WBA3D3C51FK
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I was driving on a busy two lane road. The vehicle instantly decelerated and made a large thump while driving at 55mph. The vehicle information system said there was a drivetrain malfunction, and all power was instantly gone. We were able to quickly pull off onto a small section off the road, but not in a safe manner, almost going into the ditch, in which I strongly was anticipating was going to be a total loss to the car as an accident and Injury to myself and my wife. The vehicle then after waiting several hours was towed to a certified BMW shop to be looked at. The shop noted that it sounded like it was a high pressure fuel pump failure that caused the car to abruptly decelerate. The shop confirmed that the high pressure fuel pump did fail and with high probability took out all components associated with the fuel system. The recall/ safety issue only covered the high pressure fuel Pump to 10 years or 120k miles. I have a 141k on the vehicle the issue is the safety aspect of the vehicle suddenly decelerating when at a safe driving speed with no way of knowing the issue with a the pump. These pumps and all components should be covered not only because of cost but because of the general issue of instant deceleration and the safety of not only the driver in the car but those that could be effected driving on the road with the car. This issue should not minimized by the manufacturer based on mileage or years of operation. It’s clearly an issue that is common and an issues that can have ramifications on the customers safety as well as those external of the vehicle.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: WBA3K5C57FK
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Vehicle is 100% BMW Serviced for it's history, showroom to present. Vehicle had been smoking after sitting 2-3 days and driving. We'd park and see wisps of smoke coming from the wheelwells and engine bay. Alarming! Never witnessed open flame, but as the saying goes, if there's smoke... Questionable component: 328xd Fuel Sensor Probe (BMW part #13-53-8-594-893 Fuel Feed Line 135040 ) Complaint/Report pertains to Fuel Sensor Probe failure and resultant fuel propagation(backfeeding/leaking fuel from sensor connection) into adjacent wiring/engine bay foils. Diagnostic System did not report sensor failure until extensive damage and hazard was realized. BMW USA responded to report as NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY(high mile vehicle) and therefore not of responsibility of BMW. According to local BMW Service team the event is NOT UNUSUAL and that several vehicles with same fail/error codes have exhibited similar fuel leakage/propagation/damages. VERY PROBABLE FIRE HAZARD Costly repairs; if system had detected failure when sensor failed we would have had it fixed. We reported the smoking several times but the service department didn't isolate the problem. We continued to drive the vehicle cross-country for 6+ months; each time the problem got worse. WE GOT LUCKY Repair bills came to almost $10k by the time we added all visits and the entire wiring bundle that had to be replaced due to fuel damage. Failed Sensor repair is around $750? BMW needs to implement a way to mitigate this problem to keep from having some potentially catastrophic/lethal endings. Similar problems that have contributed to vehicle fires in these BMW vehicles: 1) HEATER BOX malfunctions 2) PCV VALVE 3) COOLANT LEAK

I lifted off the throttle, and then the car operated normally. The complete failure occurred (3rd occurance) on Sept. 7. Accelerating slowly from a traffic light, turning left (again), the car exhibited the above, but much more severe. I was finally able to gain speed, but drove slowly to try to get home, about 1 mile distant. Many malfunction messages came onto the screen (listed below) Got the car home, tried to put car into "Park" but park would not engage. Engaged the emergency brake to keep car from rolling down the driveway. Shut the engine down Curious to see if the car would restart, or possibly "reset" and operate normally, I noted the shifter now indicated "Park" and now would not go into any other position / gear. Message "roadside assistance". Car is noe immobile /inoperable. Error messages: Transmission malfunction chassis stabilization drive moderately drivetrain malfunction call roadside assistance

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-07
- VIN: WBA3K5C5XFK
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I was driving on the freeway at 70mph, the indicated speed limit. It was cloudy, drizzling rain. No large vehicles near me. All of a sudden it sounded like a gunshot went off right above my head. I had the panoramic sunshade closed so I couldn't see anything, but my first thought was that the glass of the panoramic sunroof had shattered. After 5 more minutes of driving (so I could safely get home), I parked the car and stepped out of the door and looked at the roof. Sure enough, the front of the two pieces of glass had shattered right in the middle, about 150 square inches open to the sky, and dozens of pieces of broken glass had fallen in between the interior sunroof shade and where the glass was supposed to be. Thank goodness I had the shade closed, otherwise the pieces of glass would have landed on me and my girlfriend (who was sitting in the passenger seat.) There was no hail, no lightning, and no loose rocks from any vehicles in front of me. It was about 82 degrees Fahrenheit, so not abnormally warm.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-08
- VIN: WBA3D3C54FK
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The engine stopped running as I was driving. I was able to coast to a stop but once stopped I was unable to put the vehicle in neutral so it was blocking the roadway. The cause of the vehicle engine to stop was a failure on the high pressure fuel pump. I see there has been a recall issued for this defect but my vehicle was not included. Must be an error on BMWs identification of the vehicles affected.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-31
- VIN: WBA3D3C58FK
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The fuel tank has some kind of leak, not specified where by the dealership, but I suspect it is on the top of the tank. When I first had this vehicle serviced in 2019, I mentioned a small of diesel. The service advisor told me it was a diesel "feature". Having recently acquired another diesel vehicle that does not smell, I requested a proper check be made this year. I now believe the tank was leaking when I first bought the car in 2018. A cursory search of the Internet shows that this is not an unusual occurrence. I was quoted $3200 for the repair, a ridiculous amount that is probably 25% the market value of a non-leaking car. BMW need to recall all F30 models and replace any leaking tanks at their expense. I am only continuing to use the vehicle as no liquid is in evidence and diesel is very hard to ignite. Were the car gasoline powered I would have little choice but to get the car repaired.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-14
- VIN: wba3d3c52fk
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2015 BMW 328D. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V755000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 67,409. Parts distribution disconnect.

THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL RAIL AND ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS HOWEVER THIS DID NOT PREVENT REREPEATED RECURRENCE OF THE ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED IT WILL LEAD TO A DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE BMW REPAIRED IT. CAR DISPLAYS DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION MESSAGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-06
- VIN: WBA3D3C50FK
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I THEN BOOKED AN APPOINTMENT AT BMW ENCINITAS ON MONDAY, 6/3 TO GET IT FIXED. THEY DIAGNOSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND QUOTED ME THAT IT WAS ALL PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE. I SIGNED THE PAPERWORK, AND MY SERVICE ADVISOR JOEY SAID THAT DUE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT'S BACKLOG, THE CAR WOULDN'T BE READY UNTIL TUESDAY 6/4 IN THE EVENING. THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME A LOANER VEHICLE, SO I HAD TO CALL MY MOM TO PICK ME UP. LATER THAT AFTERNOON, I GOT A CALL FROM MY SERVICE ADVISOR SAYING THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T BE READY UNTIL FRIDAY, 6/7. ON WEDNESDAY 6/5, I RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM MY SERVICE ADVISOR SAYING THAT MY EGR COOLER WAS FAULTY AND WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE, BUT THAT THE PART THAT TRIPPED THE LIGHT, THE EGR VALVE, WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT WE WOULD BE CHARGED $416.00 + TAX TO GET IT FIXED. THIS WAS AFTER THEY HAD QUOTED ME 'NO CHARGE' TO HAVE IT ALL FIXED. EVEN IF THE PART IN QUESTION IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, IF BMW WOULD HAVE HAD EGR COOLERS IN STOCK AND TAKEN MY CAR IN SOONER, THE EGR VALVE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN. WE AGREED TO PAY THE CHARGE TO GET MY CAR OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS. MY WHOLE EXPERIENCE WITH THE RECALL HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A DISASTER. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST RECALL I'VE EVER BEEN A PART OF. ON THURSDAY, 6/6, I RECEIVED A CALL THAT MY CAR WAS READY. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK IT UP, AND THEY CHARGED $448.50 FOR THE FAULTY VALVE, WHICH WAS CAUSED BY THE FAULTY COOLER.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-06-02
- VIN: WBA3D3C50FK
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: WHEN I FIRST HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE EGR COOLER, I CHECKED BMW'S WEBSITE AND IT SAID THAT THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER, ONLY TO HAVE THEM SAY PARTS WEREN'T READY. I GOT A "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" ERROR WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL A FEW MONTHS AGO. AFTER I GOT OUT OF SCHOOL, I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE EGR COOLER RECALL. HE RESET THE CODE AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. MY MECHANIC RESET THE CODE AND SENT ME ON MY WAY AGAIN. I CHECKED BMW'S WEBSITE AGAIN AND THEY SAID PARTS WERE READY. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AGAIN, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT PARTS WEREN'T READY. JUST TODAY, I GOT ANOTHER "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" ERROR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STAYING ON. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE RESET THE CODE, BUT NOW THE LIGHT IS PERSISTENTLY ON NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE RESET THE FAULT CODE. IT HAS BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS AND BMW DOES NOT HAVE PARTS READY. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR, I WORRY THAT IT'LL CATCH FIRE OR SOMETHING AND LEAVE ME STRANDED ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I ALMOST FEEL LIKE BMW SHOULD BUY MY CAR BACK, SINCE IT HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM 3 TIMES IN A ROW.

2015 Bmw 328d recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2015 Bmw 328d.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:HEAD:INFLATOR
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2015 2 Series Coupe (228i, 228i xDrive, M235i), 3 Series Sedan (320i, 320i xDrive, 328i, 328i xDrive, 335i, 335i xDrive, M3, 328d, 328d xDrive), 4 Series Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive, M4), and 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive) vehicles. The head air bag inflator may fail at the weld joint, which can cause gas to leak from the inflator or result in an inflator rupture.
- Consequence: An inflator that ruptures may cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, an inflator that leaks gas may only partially inflate during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the head air bags, free of charge. Letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed June 20, 2024. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed the end of October 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon, 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV, and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV diesel vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. The EGR cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.
- Consequence: A melting intake manifold increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the EGR cooler and inspect the intake manifold, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. This recall includes all vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755. Vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755 will need to have the new remedy performed for this recall. An interim owner notification letter was mailed on January 18, 2022. The remedy is expected to be available in June 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 6, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

- Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 14, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2016 328d xDrive sedans and 2013-2015 328d xDrive station wagon vehicles. The constant-velocity joint which transfers power between the transfer case and the rear drive shaft, may become damaged, possibly resulting in loss of power to the rear wheels.
- Consequence: A loss of power to the rear wheels can affect vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the vehicle is parked after a loss of power to the rear wheels and the parking brake is not engaged, unintended rollaway can occur, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the constant-velocity joint and inspect the transfer case, replacing it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 22, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon and 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. If the EGR cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with diesel engine soot. The high EGR temperatures may result in these particles possibly smoldering and melting the intake manifold.
- Consequence: The melting intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler as necessary. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. These repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began May 13, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
