The Toyota C-HR (Japanese: トヨタ C-HR, Hepburn: Toyota Shīeichiāru) is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Toyota since 2016. The development of the car began in 2013, led by Toyota chief engineer Hiroyuki Koba. The C-HR is built on the same TNGA-C (GA-C) platform as the E210 series Corolla and positioned between the Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross in Toyota's crossover SUV lineup since 2020. According to Toyota, the C-HR is a mixture of hatchbacks, B-segment SUVs and compact car platform, and has been described as a coupe crossover.

What is the common issue with Toyota C-HR?

The 2016-2023 Toyota C-HR may not be the most exciting family SUV to drive, but it is one of the most dependable. Issues with the 12-volt battery were the most common complaint of the 15% of owners who said their car had gone wrong. Four out of five cars remained driveable, and were fixed in less than a week.

What is the disadvantage of Toyota C-HR?

Rear space

Sadly, that's not the case. In fact, the C-HR is actually pretty cramped in the back, with rear leg and head room closer to that offered by much smaller SUVs, such as the Lexus LBX and the Peugeot 2008. Head room is particularly disappointing.

Are Toyota C-HR reliable cars?

The Toyota CH-R came in eighth place in our 2022 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of the top 75 cars, which is a four-place drop from the previous year. Owners were impressed with its reliability, as well as its styling, economy and driving experience.

Why are they discontinuing the Toyota C-HR?

As for the US, the Toyota US lineup will do much better when focused on compact SUVs, rather than the subcompact segment. So, in favor of the Toyota Corolla Cross and Toyota RAV4 SUVs, you'll no longer see the C-HR. The Toyota C-HR will leave both the U.S. and Canadian markets.

Why did Toyota stop making the C-HR?

Not efficient. Even under the careful tutelage of the greater Toyota brand, the C-HR didn't quite fit in. It's almost like Toyota made the exact opposite of what people actually wanted. It was shaped like an SUV (mostly) but it didn't do anything an SUV should do.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-12-26
  • VIN: NMTKHMBX8LR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Toyota dealership confirmed cup holder within console allowed liquid to leak within the cup holder down underneath into the console which shorted out the communication computer. The cup holders do not have a barrier to keep liquids within this area and will allow liquid to escape into the lower console. When the liquid leaked into that area and later trying to start my car I received a message stating key fob malfunction and to review the owners manual. Toyota said to drive it to their repair shop, but it would not start and had to get a tow. They fixed the key ignition issue and the next day same communication error, took car back and they realized it was from the liquid that leaked from the cup holder. Who has cup holders that are not leak-proof above a computer? Or at least put a shield around the computer so the liquid doesn’t short it out?

Negative 2020 Toyota C-hr car reviews

  1. Trevion Schuster 2024-07-09

Although Toyota's latest model has some areas for improvement, it still has a lot to offer. The cabin is well-designed and functional, with ample storage space. While the back seat may not be ideal for taller individuals, it still provides a comfortable ride for most passengers. The car's features are impressive and add to the overall driving experience. With a few tweaks, this model has the potential to be a top performer in its class.

  2. Joel Cruickshank 2024-03-18

Although the car has some weaknesses, it is still a good option for those on a budget. The acceleration may not be the strongest, and there are some blind spots, but the car's unique design makes up for it. The gas mileage is decent, and the car is affordable. While it may not be the best option for larger grocery trips, it is still a practical choice for everyday use. However, if you have a bit more to spend, the Rav4 may be a better option for you.

  3. Alexys Swaniawski 2024-03-01

I love my car, but unfortunately the hood crumples very easily. Even a light touch can cause a dent. I don't feel very safe, but after speaking with Toyota, they don't see it as a problem that the hood dents and folds easily. I'm disappointed that my car, which has barely 6000 miles on it, won't have the hood fixed or replaced.

Positive 2020 Toyota C-hr car reviews

  1. Elvis Quigley 2025-01-05

I love the exterior of the CH-R! It's definitely the most attractive option in its class. The ruby flare pearl looks stunning in any light! Although it doesn't have AWD, it's not a deal breaker for me. In 'Sport' mode, the 2.0 has plenty of acceleration. I also appreciate the ride height for easy entry and exit of the vehicle - not too low or high, just right! The only things I would like to change are the center console layout and fuel tank capacity. Overall, I'm a very satisfied consumer with my Toyota CH-R.

  2. Chance Parker 2025-01-02

Great to hear that you're enjoying your car! It's always a plus when it's both spacious and fuel-efficient.

  3. Diamond Sauer 2024-11-14

This vehicle was surprising in a great way. I downsized from a Rav4 because I didn't need all the room and this was a great choice. I have the room I need and comfort that I was used to but it handles like a sports car. Great pickup and maneuverability. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants an SUV without the bulk!

  4. Kieran Will 2024-11-07

That is what my co-workers call my C-HR. I've had it for three weeks now and I absolutely love it. There's plenty of room and the three adults I drove around last weekend said they were very comfortable. I don't understand why some people complain about the pickup or speed, I have no issues at all. In fact, I have to keep slowing down to avoid going over 80 mph. The silver is a unique shade and it suits me perfectly!

  5. Mario Crist 2024-11-03

I think this car is perfect for your 16 year old twins. With its safety features, they will have a few more advantages while driving. Plus, it's such a cute car and very fun to drive!
