A loss in power steering can be noticed with a slow or stiff responding steering wheel, or most commonly, a puddle of red liquid below your car indicating a power steering fluid leak. Fiat has been forced to recall a number of models due to this problem, caused by faulty wiring below the steering column which made the steering wheel difficult to control.
- AC Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system, including parts replacement and recalls. These issues can affect the comfort of the vehicle, especially during hot weather.
- Door and Trunk Problems: Some owners have reported problems with the door not closing properly and the trunk light falling. These issues can affect the functionality and safety of the vehicle.
- Thermostat Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the thermostat, which can affect the temperature control of the vehicle.
- Rattling Noise: Some owners have reported a rattling noise when hitting the gas pedal, which can affect the driving experience and indicate a mechanical issue.

There was not a warning or anything, then the transmission service lights up, i had to have my car towed to a dealership however they informed me that there was never any service they were supposed to do on my transmission because of the type of vehicle i have. this part is expensive and not easily obtainable. car is still showing transmission issue.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-16
- VIN: ZFBCFXAB2JP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased my 2018 Fiat 500X POP used in April 2023 with only 22k miles. This past weekend 12/16 when I would first start my car up and get ready to leave in the mornings after having been parked for the night, my car would start up normal and I could proceed down the street. The minute I apply the break my car would lose power, stall out or shut off completely. I would press the start button, release the break, shift the gear to drive and proceed forward. I would go about 20 mph as I was driving in a residential area then my car would stall out and shut off again leaving stuck in the roadway. I repeated the start process to pull over to a safe location. I called the dealer and they said there are no recalls for this issue, however, I located one, but my VIN is not coming back as one of the affected vehicles. This is extremely dangerous as I live in an area with freeways as the only way to get to certain areas and cannot have this vehicle shutdown on freeways because it could result in a bad accident. I am looking for any assistance I can receive from this complaint. Fiat is not helpful, and the closest dealer is 2hrs from my residence.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-31
- VIN: ZFBCFXAB6JP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: There is an active recall for the power train control module for this car but it is not showing up in the NHTSA list. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2018/RCRIT-18V524-1313.pdf identifies the specific recall for the powertrain control module for the Fiat 500X https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2018/FIAT/500X/SUV/2WD#recalls lists the recalls done for the vehicle and it does not list the powertrain control module recall issue. We just bought this car from CARMAX and looks like this campaign recall fix was not listed on the site so they didn't address it and now the car wont work or run. If the recall was listed by the VIN they would have been required to fix before selling.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-15
- VIN: ZFBCFXCB7JP
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased my vehicle in 2020. I was not aware there was an open recall on this vehicle for an oil consumption issue. The dealer did not tell me and I received no notice from Fiat/Chrysler over the next two years. I began having a problem with the engine cutting out as I was driving down the road without any warning. There were no low oil or engine lights coming on to let me know there was a problem. My car was literally stopping on the road as I was driving! The potential for disaster was high! Fortunately we were able to get the car to the dealer without incident. We actually found out about the recall through our own investigation. The car was 3.5 quarts low and has since had two oil consumption tests that were supposed to "fix" the problem. It is now July 2023 and am still dealing with the car burning oil at a rate of about 1.5 quarts every 1500 miles. I have a 2018 Fiat 500X with less than 40,000 miles on the engine. Currently my dealership and I are trying to get Fiat/Chrysler to replace my engine . They have agreed that under the extended warranty afforded to me through the class action lawsuit filed against them over this that I am eligible for this to repair damage done. Unfortunately we are having issues getting authorization for an engine to be ordered..a lot of bureaucracy! The whole process has been infuriating..and I do think that my safety as a driver has been compromised. Thank you.

I have a bit of a bias towards the Fiat brand, having owned a 128 Sport Coupe in the 70s and currently a 2012 500 Abarth. The 500x was something I was interested in, but I had to do a little convincing to get my wife on board. We traded in her uncomfortable Jeep Wrangler Sport, and we were both happy to say goodbye to it. Moving into the 500x, we did sacrifice a little space, but aside from that, we really love this vehicle. The ride is comfortable, the handling is precise, the acceleration is adequate, and it's an absolute treat to drive. That's one thing about my Fiats that sets them apart from all the other vehicles we've owned - they're just plain fun to drive! As of 02/06/2018, this vehicle has only gotten better with age, and we still enjoy all aspects of it very much.
-
I've been really pleased with this car. The ride is excellent - quiet and smooth. The gas mileage is great, and the power and handling are fantastic! It feels like I'm driving a sports car. I'm glad the computer has a setting to notify you about your speed. I have mine set for 10 miles above the limit, and it always reminds me, as it's easy to lose track of how fast you're going. You can't feel it shifting, except when you first start out, as it's a little hesitant. The interior is comparable to cars that are much more expensive. The materials used and fit and finish are excellent. My only complaint is that Fiat needs to market this car through their Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler dealers, and service them there as well, or at the very least, require Alfa/Maserati dealers to service them under warranty. I live in a fairly large metropolitan city, and I have to drive 60 to 75 miles to the closest dealer for warranty work. I only wish I drove more, but I work from home...

I purchased my Fiat 500X on February 24th, 2016 and it has been a great little SUV so far! I have driven about 2500 miles and have not experienced any problems. It rides smoothly and is easy to get in and out of due to its higher seating position. I love the unique style of the car and have received many compliments on it while filling up at gas stations. Previously, I owned a Subaru Crosstrek but unfortunately, after an accident, I could not afford another one. The Fiat 500X was a great alternative and felt very similar to my previous car. Although I eventually traded it in for another Crosstrek in August 2016, I do miss my Fiat. While the value may not have been there for me, I did not have any issues with the car itself. I would definitely recommend considering a Fiat 500X, but ultimately the decision is up to the individual. Personally, I am a fan of Subarus, but I do appreciate the convenience of having a closer Fiat dealership. Thank you for considering my experience!

I was searching for a car after a deer totaled my beloved Prius. Since we're moving to the countryside in West Virginia, an AWD was a must-have. I went to the dealership with the intention of looking at Imprezas. When we arrived at the lot, we saw the two Imprezas on my list, and then noticed this little darling tucked in the corner with AWD on the windshield. At first, we both chuckled, then walked up for a closer look. It was pretty much love at first sight! The car is charming, both exterior and interior. I got the keys, got in, and said, 'Wow, these seats are comfortable!' I took it for a spin both in town and on the highway and was pleasantly surprised at how nimble it is to drive. The comfort was great, and the speed - let's just say this car has pickup!! It was so smooth on the highway that my husband said, 'Honey, you're going to have to watch your speed in this.' We went back to the dealership to check out the Imprezas (since that's what we went for), sat in one and immediately got out. We didn't even take it out of the parking spot. We walked back in, asked for the Fiat 500x Easy keys back, and drove it home that day. The drive home was two hours, and I loved every minute of it. My husband drove it all the next while we ran errands and said if he was in the market for a car, he'd look for one for himself. No, it doesn't get the same gas mileage as the Prius, but Prius doesn't make an AWD, and that was more important to me this time. I bought it used, 2016, 10,000 miles on it, not one scratch or stain - perfect condition. I love, love, love this car! Give it a try, and you won't regret it!
-
I really enjoy the way this car handles! However, the gas mileage is not great and there isn't much space in the rear. Additionally, there is no spare tire, which can be inconvenient. The nearest Fiat dealer is quite far from where I live, about 30 miles away. While Chrysler can handle basic work like fluid changes and AC repairs, anything beyond that requires a trip to the dealer. If the car needs to stay overnight, I may need to rent a vehicle. On the plus side, they do offer a shuttle service to take you home. The rear seating is a bit tight, but that's to be expected. Overall, I would give it 5 stars if the gas mileage was better.

I have been asked to update my review. While I still hold the same opinion that the car has stalled out a couple of times after warming up and is very sluggish, I would like to add that the gas mileage is okay but not as good as my Chevrolet HHR. Therefore, I still do not recommend this car to anyone. Additionally, I noticed that my girlfriend was uncomfortable during the ride and I found myself apologizing for the ride of the car.

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with your car. It sounds like you have had a difficult time with it. From what you have described, it seems like there have been a few recalls on the car since you purchased it. I can understand how frustrating this must be for you, especially with the safety concerns you have mentioned. Additionally, it is unfortunate that the tires blew out after only four months and that there was no spare in the car. I can imagine how inconvenient that must have been for you. Regarding the oil leak, it is concerning that the levels were low after a recent oil change. I hope that the dealership can determine the cause of this issue and resolve it for you. It is also unfortunate that you have had trouble with the keyless remote and the gas mileage has not met your expectations. I hope that Fiat can address these issues and provide a satisfactory resolution for you. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention, and we will do our best to assist you in resolving these issues.

This car has unfortunately experienced some issues, and despite multiple visits to the dealership for service, the problem has not yet been resolved. It is frustrating that FCA has not taken action to address these known issues.

This is the newest vehicle I have ever purchased (purchased in 2017). During the test drive, I noticed a lag when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear (it's an automatic but can be manually shifted if the driver chooses). The dealer convinced me that it was because I was used to a 6 cylinder (Chevy Impala) and the Fiat was a 4. So I made a rushed purchase...only to be disappointed! It turns out that the lag is because it has a 9-speed transmission. I still can't stand the lag when shifting gears. Unfortunately, within a few months, the plastic, poorly manufactured driver's door handle snapped off, causing me to have to enter through the passenger side. Additionally, half of the gas tank entry (I don't know what it's called) snapped off as well. Luckily, those were covered by my 1-year warranty. Following that, I've had nothing but problems that I assume are electrical or a problem with the transmission. I'd have to downshift going uphill in order for the RPMs to catch (I'm not a car expert so I hope that makes sense). That happened several times even after being fixed several times. I'd also get alerts saying

I bought my first car, a Fiat 500x, on October 26th, 2015. Unfortunately, the very next day, the car stalled and began smoking. The Electric E-Brake turned on, making it impossible to move the car from the street. To make matters worse, the steering wheel completely locked up, even though the car had only 81 miles on it. It took two hours for the tow truck to arrive and remove the car. The dealer it was sent to took two days to get back to me, which was past the 48-hour return policy. They informed me that a rod had shot through the engine, and that they needed to order a new engine for my new car. It took two weeks for the engine to arrive, and another week to have it put in. After the engine was installed, they tested the car and found that a new fuse and starter were needed to make it run. It took another week and a half to receive and install these parts. During a thorough test-drive, they noticed stalling on turns, which turned out to be caused by a faulty air intake valve. It was frustrating to have a new car in the shop for over 4 weeks, but the dealer worked hard to fix all the issues and make sure the car was in working order. Finally, on December 4th, 2015, I received a call that my car was ready to be picked up. When I arrived at the dealership, the employees at the service center expressed their gratitude for my patience and understanding throughout the entire process. Although I had to call the dealership multiple times for updates, the woman I was dealing with was always friendly and helpful. The dealership even called me a few times to check on the car after I picked it up. While I did have some frustrations with the company, overall, I had a positive experience with the dealership. I would recommend them to others.
