Alfa romeo Giulia 2020 problems
Alfa Romeo Giulia (Italian pronunciation: ) is the name of three not directly related models by the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo. The first is a line of sporty four-door compact executive cars (Type 105) produced from 1962 to 1978, the second is an updated, mainly up-engined Spider, Sprint and Sprint Speciale Giuliettas, and the third Giulia is a compact executive car (type 952) unveiled in 2015.
Alfa Romeo was one of the first mainstream manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a light-weight 1 tonne (2,205 lb) four-door car for mass production. The Type 105 Giulia was equipped with a light alloy twin overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine similar to that of the earlier Giulietta (750/101) range, available in 1.3-litre (1,290 cc) and 1.6-litre (1,570 cc) versions. Various configurations of carburetors and tuning produced power outputs from about 80 to about 110 bhp (55 to 75 kW), coupled in most cases to 5-speed manual transmission.
Giulia sedans were noted for lively handling and impressive acceleration among small European four-door sedans of their era, especially considering modest engine sizes offered. The popular Super version with the twin carburettor 1.6 litre engine had a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph) and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in about 12 seconds, better than many sports cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. When leaving the factory all variations of the Giulia originally fitted either Pirelli Cinturato 165HR14 or 155HR15 tyres (CA67).
The styling of the boxy four-door notchback saloon was somewhat wanting. The engine bay, cabin and boot were all square shaped, buffered somewhat by details on the grill, roofline, bonnet and boot. Use of a wind tunnel during development led to a very aerodynamic shape that produced a drag coefficient of Cd=0.34, particularly low for a saloon of the era.
The Giulia Spider was succeeded by the Alfa Romeo Spider (105/115) in 1966.

Common Alfa romeo Giulia 2020 problems
The Alfa Romeo Giulia, introduced in 2016, has been praised for its striking design and driving dynamics. However, it has also gained a reputation for poor reliability, with several common problems reported by owners, particularly in the 2020 model year.
- Engine Misfiring: In 2017 and 2018, Alfa Romeo issued a recall for the Giulia due to an engine misfiring problem. This issue affected the 2.0-liter turbocharged models and could lead to bigger failures if left unchecked. Misfires could cause the catalytic converter to overheat, damaging engine wiring and causing additional electrical faults. In worst-case scenarios, this could result in engine fires and failing exhaust systems.
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Failure: In 2020 and 2021 Giulia models, hard braking could separate the ABS system's hydraulic control unit, leading to reduced braking power and a loss of anti-lock braking altogether.
- Rear Brake Disc Failure: In 2020 Giulia models, the rear brake discs were prone to breaking apart, causing a sudden and complete loss of braking power. This issue led to a recall, with free brake rotor and pad replacements offered for affected models.
- Fuel Leaks: In 2020 and 2021 Giulia models, a crack in the fuel line sensor housing could cause fuel to leak from the fuel lines, increasing the risk of fire. Alfa Romeo offered free fixes for all affected models.
In addition to these issues, the Alfa Romeo Giulia has faced problems with contaminated and leaking brake fluid, faulty brake module software, and higher fuel gauge readings, which have resulted in several stranded owners.
While the Alfa Romeo Giulia offers a unique driving experience and a striking design, its reliability issues have made it a challenging choice for potential buyers. Proper maintenance and careful consideration of its common problems are essential for those considering the Giulia as their primary vehicle.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Recall
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and 2020-2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles. Hard braking may cause the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) rotor shaft to separate, a reduction of braking assist, and a loss of ABS.
What is the lifespan of an Alfa Romeo Giulia?
How long do Alfa Romeo Giulias last? On average, a Giulia will last around 200,000 miles, depending on the care put into it. With proper maintenance, the machine will last at least a decade, if not more, under careful ownership. If you put effort into your machine, it will pay you back for years and years to come.
Is Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 petrol reliable?
Alfa Romeo's reliability record is best described as 'eventful' but the Giulia – and its engines – are proving dependable. While the Giulia has been subject to seven recalls, they've all affected a comparatively small number of cars. Still, check carefully if buying used that any recall action has been undertaken.

- VIN: ZARFAMAN3L7
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Driving and stopped at a traffic light, car engin stopped then when I tried to start the engin burning smell and smoke came from under the hood. Took the car to the dealership and they advised me that the starter had been completely burned out but yet they don't know why or how. This incident had made me fearful for my kids, wife and my life, the starter is close to gas lines and that could have caused an explosion. I am not sure how can the starter burn in flames when there is a relay and fuses to protect the regulation of current going into the starter. Thanks
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-29
- VIN: ZARFAMAN3L7
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Around January 30, 2023 (need to verify the exact date). My vehicle went on limp mode, the engine light went on plus an additional warning light. I was driving on highway 99 when my car started to stall. It felt like the car put itself in neutral mode. It was frightening as it happens randomly & suddenly after being able to drive 60+ mph. It wouldn’t pick up speed. Driving 5 mph. It was frightening as I was far from the exit & the vehicles behind were honking and 1 swerved, thankfully the driver was able to change lanes. I tried my best to move to the slow lane, but it was extremely difficult as the car would not pick up speed. I finally made it to the slowest lane (no emergency lane avail.) I was anxiously hoping for an exit. It took a while, kept on my hazard lights. When I finally found an exit completely stalled, then after turning it on and off it picked up a bit of speed. Tt felt like it was on neutral. I parked and attempted to call a tow truck. The car kept struggling and it was raining that day. After hours, I was able to get assistance to take it home. I did call Alfa Romeo, which they towed it to their nearest dealership. They ran test but did not find anything wrong with the engine. They did find other things like the coolant leaking. They did fix those things. However, they did keep my vehicle for over 2 months! And I had to request the inspection because they did not send it or placed inside the vehicle like they normally do. The vehicle has only done it one additional time since then but this time it was minor, while trying to leave my house. I turned it off for a few minutes and then everything was fine. I have also notified Alfa Romeo of the infotainment turning off since I had this vehicle. The engine/throttle error (limp mode) is dangerous and scary for the us the driver and the drivers around us. On may 24, 2023 I received an email from Alfa Customer Retention Specialist, offering to buy back the vehicle due to Civil Code 1793.2(d)(2)(B).

Took the car to the dealership and they said it was not covered by warranty. I decided to go to their parking lot to check other client cars and sure enough i found other Alfa with the same problem. I think this could be a very dangerous problem for drivers. I'm afraid this issue will continue to get worst. Thank you
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-29
- VIN: ZARFANBN5L7
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Around 715p, today, May 29, my wife was driving the Alfa Romeo Giulia, and we pulled into our driveway. I was in the passenger seat and had my right elbow resting on the window sill (the window was fully open) and my palm was resting against the window frame. My wife pressed the automatic window up button as she was turning off the car. As the window started up, my forearm was trapped between the sill and the window frame. the pain was extremely intense, particularly from where the window kept trying to close. I yelled at my wife several times to hit the window down button. I could not get my arm out. Finally, I was able to pull my arm out scraping the skin. I feel that, if there had been soft tissue such as a baby's neck where my arm was, the tissue would have been crushed. After I pulled my arm out, the window did not continue to raise.

I was once told that if an Alfa dealership gets you to test drive, the sale is done... and they were right! I was initially hesitant due to the historic questions of reliability, but after three years of ownership, I can confidently say that this is easily the most exciting and rewarding daily driver I've owned, even compared to Audi, BMW, and Chevy. The handling is second to none, and the styling is... well... Italian!

Drawbacks- Although there is very little storage space in the cabin, the Alfa Romeo has a lot to offer. While it may not have a very strong dealer network, if you have the 2.0 engine you can service them at many dodge dealers. Apple Carplay may glitch on rare occasions, and the resolution of the backup camera may not be the best, but the cross traffic warning system and object sensors make up for it. I can confidently say that there is no other car in this price range that’s going to get you this much attention and have this much racing inspiration in its design and driving dynamics. Everywhere I go with it, I constantly turn heads and get asked about this car. This car feels super confident in its steering and body control. And don’t be fooled by the power numbers; this car can get up and go at will. As much as I hate my commute, this car has made me fall in love with driving. While its German rivals may have slightly better tech, this car has WAY more character with its driving feel and beautiful design. I highly recommend getting any color besides black or white and opting for a model with one of its many unique and beautiful wheel options. Outside of that and its amazing driving feel, I was pleasantly surprised by how fuel-efficient this car is. I get about 36mpg on frequent 4hr+ road trips traveling 80+mph and 27mpg with mixed city and highway driving. Don’t let people who have never owned an Alfa fool you with its reliability. Alfa has seemed to resolve all of its issues with the 2019+ models. I bought it used with around 50k miles and have put about 20k+ miles on it, and it’s been absolutely flawless with only basic maintenance so far. I might have a customer for life with this one.

This car is a true gem! Like most Italian cars, it gets more enjoyable over time. Long-term ownership reviews agree that it eventually feels like it's a part of you. The Alfa mystique is still there, making it a unique and exclusive car due to its poor sales. However, this also means that they are a steal right now! I was lucky enough to pick up my Lusso for only 32K with less than 22K miles on it, even though it was over 60K when new. The drive is fabulous, and I'm glad I opted for RWD instead of AWD. I had a loaner with AWD and didn't find the experience of having less autonomy an advantage. The 2-liter engine has a big turbo, and it feels sublime on twisty roads in D mode, as this mode keeps you in boost. I was finding the usual Audis and BMWs lacking in excitement, but this car offers that in many unexpected ways. Don't believe the rumors about unreliability! Many Audi and BMW models have worse ratings. If you research actual ownership, you will see that this is relatively untrue. The only issues I have had are warnings coming up saying that something is currently unavailable, even though they are working fine. Audio, for example. But the HK system and everything else works great, including the stereo sound. I typically drive 80-85 mph, and the car still delivers 32 mpg, which is pretty good. I've even achieved 37 mpg once, in heavy, steady 55 mph traffic. My Russo Lusso is a car that I'm looking forward to owning for a long time!

The car has gorgeous styling and is great fun to drive, making it perfect for long trips. It includes competitive features such as Apple Car Play and adaptive cruise control, which are luxuries you wouldn't necessarily expect from an Alfa. However, there are a few downsides to the car. One deal breaker for me was the stability control system that kicks in violently if there's the slightest bit of wheelspin. In the rain, you really have to feather the throttle. Additionally, the trunk is undersized and can only fit 2 checked bags or a trip to Costco. Fortunately, the rear seats fold down, but then you've only got a 3- or 2-seater, with your stuff on full display. There's no spare, so you're stuck with mediocre performance run-flat tires that last a maximum of 20k miles until the inner tread gets corded. There are occasional electronics glitches where the dash lights up with warnings, but of course, these are never repeatable at the dealership. One of my high beams is out, and 4-1/2 months after the dealer placed an order, there's still no ETA. Despite these concerns, the low residual price means a lot of car for the money, and as an Italian car nut, I would still recommend it to others.

You'll love the superb handling and torque once you take it for a test drive!
