2020 Acura Tlx problems
The Acura TLX is a four-door entry-level luxury sedan sold by Acura, a luxury division of Honda, since 2014. It is the successor to both the TL and TSX models. As of 2021, the discontinuation of the RLX leaves the TLX as the flagship sedan in Acura's lineup.
Design history
The Acura TLX was first shown as the "TLX Prototype", a sedan designed in Acura's Los Angeles Design Studio, as a replacement of the TL and TSX sedans. The production version was unveiled in April at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Sales began in August, the TLX entered production during July at Marysville, Ohio, United States.
First generation (UB1/UB2/UB3/UB4; 2015)
Two powertrain options are available. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with direct injection was offered with front-wheel drive only, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel steering (P-AWS). This model's chassis code is UB1. The Honda designed dual clutch transmission is the first to use a torque converter, which absorbs transmission gear shift shock, thus reducing NVH. The engine is rated at 206 hp (154 kW; 209 PS) with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg‑US (9.8 L/100 km; 29 mpg‑imp)/35 mpg‑US (6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg‑imp)/28 mpg‑US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) compared to 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/26 mpg‑US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) from the previous TSX. Honda estimates that the six-cylinder model is 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h).
A 3.5-liter direct injected SOHC VTEC V-6 with cylinder deactivation (VCM) is mated to Honda's first time use of a 9-speed automatic transmission (sourced from ZF), available with either P-AWS or all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). The SH-AWD system uses hydraulic clutches instead of the electromagnetic clutch packs found on the previous TL which significantly cuts weight, size and cost. The engine is rated at 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and front-wheel drive models deliver 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/34 mpg‑US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) while all-wheel drive models are rated at 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp). Model codes are UB2 for the front-wheel drive and UB3 for the SH-AWD, which comes standard with a "Technology Package". TLX models configured with the V6 engine lose nearly 150 lb (68 kg) compared to the FWD TL, and over 225 lb (102 kg) compared to the SH-AWD TL.
Overall length compared to the previous TL was reduced by 3.8 inches (97 mm) while the wheelbase maintains the same length. As with the ninth-generation Accord, the TLX loses the front double wishbone suspension of the TSX and TL in favor of a MacPherson strut arrangement, and loses the TL's all-aluminum front subframe in favor of a lower cost friction stir welded aluminum and steel piece.
To significantly cut down on interior noise, triple door seals are used as well as additional sound insulation.

What is the common problem with Acura TLX?
Transmission super bad on downshifts, when going uphill low throttle you can feel grinding like the engine is going to stall out.
How reliable is 2020 Acura TLX?
I love the 2020 TLX, has the 2.4 non-turbo engine which as a mechanic, I believe is an incredibly reliable engine! Acura has a nice quiet ride and plenty of luxury amenities. My last Acura has over 304k miles and is still going!
What are the negatives of the Acura TLX?
While the TLX's ride is comfortable and handling is nimble, there's too much road and engine noise, undermining the premium pretense. The front seats are supportive, but the rear seat is tight, and the car's low stance hurts cabin access. The touchpad-based infotainment system is very distracting to use.
Which TLX model is best?
2024 Acura TLX Type S: $57,000
The Type S is the best equipped TLX and the fastest. You can attribute its speed to its 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Generating 355 hp, it also delivers 354 lb-ft of torque. Using the same 10-speed automatic transmission, the Type S also sports the SH-AWD system.

- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased a new Acura TLX in 2020. The following year it took it into get state inspected in Massachusetts. My care failed for emission 3 times. I brought it back to the dealer (Herb Connolly) in Framingham Massachusetts. They kept it for 3 weeks, worked on it and told me it was all set. The following year I brought it in for a state inspection. The same thing happened. They told me that they had seen a few of these cases. They found a way to get them to pass. They have to drive it at different speeds for a few hundred miles. I asked that they fix in properly and they noted that they did not have a fix. This was all after I picked it up. I told them I was concerned as I worried this could keep happening. They encouraged me to call Honda Motor Corp. I spoke to them several times and they denied the problem. I am not in my third year. Car is still under warranty and it again failed inspection. Below is an email from the service manager on how to get it to pass. From: Michael Brooks

This is an issue what we have had to drive the car in very specific patterns to get it to pass. The main thing we do is DO NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF AFTER DRIVING IT JUST PULL IT INTO THE INSPECTION BAY AND LEAVE IT RUNNING DURING THE INSPECTION. There are a few flags that are notoriously tricky to get to flip. Usually we use our $20 “obd” tool that we got off amazon which monitors the flags in real time so we know when it is ready for inspection. Below are the driving patterns we follow to get the problem flags to turn over: O2 sensor This is one of the trickiest ones, we seem to have the most luck getting this one from continued driving so there is not a spec INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This caused the vehicle to brake unexpectedly while driving through a construction zone on highway 45. Fortunately, we were very close to the Acura dealership where the vehicle was purchased and managed to drive the vehicle to the service department. The Parking brake alarm continued to display on dashboard even after turning off the vehicle and starting it again. The emissions alarm also flashed intermittently on the dashboard. After researching on several TLX Forums, we found similar incidents dating back to 2015 TLX vehicles. There is also an issue when trying to start the vehicle. Sometimes the engine does not turn over and the dashboard displays error messages or goes completely black. Dealer is unable to fix this issue. Vehicle has been in for repairs a number of times with no resolution. We are not sure if the starting issue is related to the parking brake issue. There seems to be major issues with the electrical/software/firmware.

Hey there! Have you tried getting 35 MPG on a trip while cruising at 75 MPH? And around town, you can get 27.6 MPG! Plus, the handling is like that of a sports car. Although, I must admit, I'm not a fan of paddle shifters.

I went to the car dealer on a weeknight and was pleasantly surprised to see a super low lease rate. I selected the car, but then they informed me that it was for the base model only and that there were additional fees to consider. As I was about to walk out, the manager came by and discussed our options. Long story short, they were very nice and we were able to take advantage of their lease incentives, getting $10k off of MSRP. After my first payment, I saw the payoff amount and indeed we saved over $10k. As far as performance goes, the car is quiet, smooth, and I love the Apple Car Play and good sound system ELS. The driving position is good, the seats are comfortable, and there is minimal road noise. The handling is good too. If you want to be picky, then the Audi A4 handles better, the Lexus ES is quieter, and the BMW has a better infotainment system, but for a new car under $28k, it is one of the best deals.

There is nothing I would change. Thank you for your review! It was so good that I bought one on February 13th, 2020. I am now considering getting the 2021 TLX A-Spec or waiting for the Type S.

Hey there! I recently drove up to Montana and experienced the first snow of the season. Unfortunately, the front radar system got covered in snow and ice, causing the dashboard to light up like a Christmas tree. I noticed that the Cruz and crash warnings weren't working. I was wondering if there's a setup to keep it warm so it doesn't freeze? Thanks!

The car is perfectly fine, with no major issues to report. While it may not have any flashy features, it is a reliable and practical choice. The front doors may require a bit of extra effort to close, but this is a minor inconvenience. Overall, this car is a solid choice for anyone looking for a dependable vehicle.

However, I am confident that this issue can be resolved to ensure a more comfortable driving experience. While I may have some regrets about purchasing this car, I am optimistic that this problem can be addressed.
