2015 Acura Tlx problems
The Acura TLX is a four-door entry-level luxury sedan sold by Acura, a luxury division of Honda, since 2014. It is the successor to both the TL and TSX models. As of 2021, the discontinuation of the RLX leaves the TLX as the flagship sedan in Acura's lineup.
Design history
The Acura TLX was first shown as the "TLX Prototype", a sedan designed in Acura's Los Angeles Design Studio, as a replacement of the TL and TSX sedans. The production version was unveiled in April at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Sales began in August, the TLX entered production during July at Marysville, Ohio, United States.
First generation (UB1/UB2/UB3/UB4; 2015)
Two powertrain options are available. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with direct injection was offered with front-wheel drive only, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel steering (P-AWS). This model's chassis code is UB1. The Honda designed dual clutch transmission is the first to use a torque converter, which absorbs transmission gear shift shock, thus reducing NVH. The engine is rated at 206 hp (154 kW; 209 PS) with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg‑US (9.8 L/100 km; 29 mpg‑imp)/35 mpg‑US (6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg‑imp)/28 mpg‑US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) compared to 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/26 mpg‑US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) from the previous TSX. Honda estimates that the six-cylinder model is 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h).
A 3.5-liter direct injected SOHC VTEC V-6 with cylinder deactivation (VCM) is mated to Honda's first time use of a 9-speed automatic transmission (sourced from ZF), available with either P-AWS or all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). The SH-AWD system uses hydraulic clutches instead of the electromagnetic clutch packs found on the previous TL which significantly cuts weight, size and cost. The engine is rated at 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and front-wheel drive models deliver 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/34 mpg‑US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) while all-wheel drive models are rated at 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp). Model codes are UB2 for the front-wheel drive and UB3 for the SH-AWD, which comes standard with a "Technology Package". TLX models configured with the V6 engine lose nearly 150 lb (68 kg) compared to the FWD TL, and over 225 lb (102 kg) compared to the SH-AWD TL.
Overall length compared to the previous TL was reduced by 3.8 inches (97 mm) while the wheelbase maintains the same length. As with the ninth-generation Accord, the TLX loses the front double wishbone suspension of the TSX and TL in favor of a MacPherson strut arrangement, and loses the TL's all-aluminum front subframe in favor of a lower cost friction stir welded aluminum and steel piece.
To significantly cut down on interior noise, triple door seals are used as well as additional sound insulation.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-06
- VIN: 19UUB2F33FA
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: While driving on the freeway/highway my vehicle went into limp mode and shifted into neutral. My vehicle would not allow me to shift gears and the car would not let me accelerate anymore. I had to think quickly and move out from upcoming traffic. With little speed I had on my vehicle I could only shut down the car and wait for a tow truck. This happened to me twice in 2020 and the mechanics could not find any issue or replicate what had happened. They said this was a software issue. I was still scared to drive my car thinking this would happen again. Then 2 years after ( 2024) again this happened and it was when I was on the freeway. Luckily I was on the left side and was able to stop on the shoulder but stressing out and still traumatized from what occurred 2 years ago. I took it to the dealer and same thing they could not replicate the issue and did re programmed the software. I believe this car is not safe to drive at all knowing this can happen again and again at random times. The attached document is what the dealer gave me stating this remedy was done to the vehicle. This need to be investigated.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

In Acuras own document they said the warranty would be extended to ten years.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
- VIN: 19UUB2F7XFA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Unable to get an appointment to address the Connecting Rod Bearing recall until May 12, 2025 which is the earliest available. Apparently, Acura is not providing their dealers with enough required tools and parts to do more than 5-6 recall appointments per week with some weeks having no parts available. Given that the engine can actually seize if this issue is present, being asked to wait until May 2025 is simply I unacceptable and does not meet your comment on your website about effecting the repairs in a “timely manner”. I have contacted 4 different dealers and all report the same issues with lack of tools and parts. Acura needs to step up acquisition or manufacturing of tools and parts.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-07
- VIN: 19UUB3F72FA
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission is slow, hesitant and jerky in models with the v6 engine. I almost got into a major car crash due to the transmission’s very hesitant behavior. Other owners have experienced this slow and clunky transmission behavior, after looking in many online forums. The transmission has been way since the vehicle first came out but Honda still has not addressed the issue with the 9 speed transmission. This poses a huge safety risk to me and all other owners.
LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- VIN: 19UUB2F57FA
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: The lane keeping assist problem light message comes up on my dashboard. The dealership wants $1600 to repair this problem but i don’t understand why it should have failed in the first place. The camera system should last for 10 plus years. In addition, this message can’t be cleared and it is a hazard as I can’t see any other safety messages that may come up
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-24
- VIN: 19UUB1F35FA
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: When the vehicle is running in driveway and I then get into it a few minutes later and drive around the corner, when coming to a stop it jerks as if it wants to stall. This happens when I am driving as well and slow down, it’ll jerk and push me forward a little and happens daily so not sure why my vin didn’t come up with a recall because it sounds a lot like the fuel pump issue the one recall mentioned.
ENGINE PROBLEM

- VIN: 19UUB1F3XFA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My vehicle is experiencing stalling and shutting off in the middle of the road and could cause a possible accident.

The notice indicated parts were not available for repair and I would receive further notice when parts became available in early spring. I heard nothing by May 1 so called the dealer. They said parts are coming in slowly and the first available appointment they could give me for repair would be in AUGUST. I am planning to transfer this car to a family member in June, so this is unacceptable. It also means that I continue to be exposed to any safety problems that arise.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-22
- VIN: 19UUB2F50FA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: This complaint is NOT for a problem that has occurred. This is a complaint about the refusal of Acura (Honda) to perform the necessary inspection & potential repairs associated with Recall Report # [XXX]; potential connecting rod bearing issue. The intitial recall was issued in 11-2023 with instructions to await receipt of a letter from Acura in Spring 2024, instructing me to schedule an inspection appt with an Acura dealer for inspection. I have called a local dealer several times over the last month & been put off for inspection appt due to "lack of parts". Today, [XXX], I was told by the dealer (Maus Acura of Tampa, FL) that no inspections would be performed until "the Fall" of 2024 per the direction of Acura, unless my vehicle was currently experiencing an issue. "An issue" was defined as a loud repeated knocking noise from the engine, whose repetition is in direct relation to the engine rpm's. I was also told that the bearing inspection is not actually performed locally, but by Acura corporate based on pictures taken by the local dealer. Only then would they decide to: 1) replace rod bearings, or 2) replace the engine. I was told to expect another letter from Acura in the Fall of 2024 directing me to schedule an inspection. At this point, it appears Acura is using a delaying tactic to avoid repairing a potentially dangerous defect, at the expense of my safety. This is in direct conflict to the intent of a Safety Recall. I don't appreciate this fact and its potential affects to my livelihood. I believe that a new form of pressure needs to be applied to Acura to force the inspections and repairs. The vehicle had to be towed to the original dealership for repairs, a new engine was the remedy at the consumers expense. Negative 2015 Acura Tlx car reviews
Positive 2015 Acura Tlx car reviews

I've been eyeing the Acura TL for years, and when I finally had a reason to buy a new car, I made sure to test drive it. However, this time I was introduced to the newer model, the TLX. I test drove a variety of cars, including sedans, sporty cars, and SUVs from different brands, but the Acura ILX and TLX caught my attention. I wasn't sure which car I wanted, but I knew I wanted something that combined elegance, sportiness, and reliability, with a bonus for comfort, spaciousness, fuel efficiency, and a crimson color. Although I didn't get the last one, I definitely got everything else with the TLX! Here are some of the pros: the TLX offers great value for the price, and it's cheaper than its competitors. I didn't set out to buy a luxury car, but Acura touts it as such. I just wanted something that had most of the features I mentioned above, and I got a great deal for them. I also love the Brake Hold feature, which allows me to simply tap on the brake pedal, let go, and the car stays stopped. Step on the gas, and off you go. It's very handy! The TLX is also very quiet, thanks to Acura's noise cancellation technology. Whether I'm talking on the car speaker phone system, listening to music, or enjoying silence, I get the most out of it. Other pluses include the soft leathers, wood-like paneling on the door handles, a dim light that illuminates the door handle so I can easily see it in the dark, and the auto-adjusting lights that depend on how light or dark it is outside. The windshield wipers on auto can also be adjusted depending on how wet it is, and the trunk cargo has extra cubby holes when I lift up the bottom flap. The TLX also has great handling, with stable steering and responsive braking. I've driven it in light and heavy rain and had no problems. Although the 2.4L doesn't have a turbo, it's still quite nimble and zippy. I also love the 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission, which comes with four modes: Econ, Normal, Sport, and Sport+ (this uses the paddle shifters). When driving, I usually switch to Economy mode for traffic, but default to Sport mode for the higher revs and faster acceleration. The paddle shifters can be fun, but not so much when you're trying to turn the wheel and shift at the same time. Sport/Sport+ mode gives me the feeling of manual shifting, only smoother and without the stick. Although I would love a stick shift version, for an automatic, I think it's pretty awesome! In terms of fuel economy, my daily commute involves a lot of stop-and-go freeway traffic, but so far I'm getting 25.4 mpg. The suspension is fantastic - it's rigid enough to be sporty, but you hardly feel the bumps on the road. It's the best of both worlds to me. As for the infotainment system, it's generally easy to use. It's a bit strange at first that there are two screens, but the upper one can display navigation or music playlist (easier to look at for line of sight), while the lower one is a touch screen to control things like settings, climate, and music (closer to access by hand). I love the look of the car, except for the front (see cons). It's classy, sleek, and sporty, with fantastic wheels even at the base model. I get a lot of compliments from my coworkers when they see me driving in. Although I opted out of the tech package since I didn't want to spend an extra $4K, nor an extra $10K for AWD and V6 engine, if you can afford either, go for it. It's very nice to have. On the downside, the infotainment system has a slow response for Bluetooth and could be more intuitive. It takes longer for the system to detect my phone or tablet. When I skip a song or go back one, there's a few seconds delay. It's annoying, but I can live with it.It can be frustrating when trying to switch to your phone via Bluetooth while driving, especially if the Infotainment mode is not already on Bluetooth. Instead of automatically switching to Bluetooth and displaying your music from your phone, you have to tap on the Bluetooth button, which is an unnecessary extra step. The car is very stable, thanks to AWS, which can make it less fun on windy roads. The front is a little conservative, but it's growing on me. Overall, I think I got more bang for my buck with the TLX. If you plan to have four other people ride with you regularly, keep in mind that the person sitting in the middle of the back seat may not be very comfortable, especially if they are tall. Make sure to have someone try out that seat during your test drive.

I recently test drove a Lexus ES-350, Mercedes C-300, and the Acura TLX V-6 Advance. In comparison, the Acura TLX V-6 Advance was more spacious inside, with a wider cabin and more headroom. The interior was also very quiet, and the car seemed to float over the road. In contrast, the Lexus had too much road noise. One feature I particularly liked about the Acura was the separate screen for the navigation and sound system. The ELS 10 speaker system with surround was also wonderful. The car had good acceleration and gas mileage, and more technology features than other similar luxury cars. Additionally, the Acura TLX V-6 Advance is priced lower than the Lexus and Mercedes C-300 (which is a small car). I highly recommend test driving the Acura TLX V-6 Advance, as you get much more for your money. I was convinced, and I think you will be too!

I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any issues with the transmission and that you're completely satisfied with your purchase. It sounds like you've made some great upgrades to your car with the new rims and tires, as well as the body molding and trunk wing from Acura. I bet it looks awesome now!

The TLX is an amazing car, especially for its price. I previously owned a Lexus ES300h, which was also a great car, but it cost me 48K before TTL when fully loaded. I opted for the 2.4 with Tech Pkg. and while I did lose some features from Lexus, such as power steering wheel and ventilated seats, the TLX at 35K MSRP is an absolute steal. The ride is just as smooth as the ES300h and the seat comfort is even better. I had the best buying experience at AutoNation Acura! They didn't try to sell me any extra stuff during financing and were very accommodating when I changed my mind on the color of the vehicle. I can't thank AutoNation Acura enough for working with me to make this purchase. They truly are the best dealership.

I've only had this car for a few weeks, but I'm already impressed by how well it performs. It's a quiet and comfortable cruiser, and I was able to average 38 MPG on a 250-mile trip cruising at around 70MPH. I absolutely love the 8-speed DSG - there's no lag or kick whatsoever, and you can really feel the difference between driving modes from Econ to Sport+. The 2.4L engine never feels underpowered. While there may be faster cars out there that handle better, you'd have to take them on a track to notice. Plus, the sound system is crystal clear!

I've had the car for about 6 weeks now and bought it after being extremely pleased with my 2016 MDX Advance. It was a CPO loaner car with 4600 miles. After about 2 weeks, I noticed a vibration when cruising at 1500 RPMs. At first, I thought it was the road, but then it seemed to happen on any road I was on. I took it to the dealer, and they explained that it was due to the VCM system (variable cylinder management). When it reaches a cruising speed, it drops back to 3 cylinders for optimal gas mileage and therefore causes a vibration. Although the dealer said there was no fix, I called Acura customer care to see if they could help. After talking with them and the dealer, they explained that this was how the car was designed to operate. I was disappointed with their response, but I will say that the gas mileage is exceptional as I got 38 MPG straight interstate on a 300-mile trip. However, I bought it for the ride more than the MPG and would gladly take a lower MPG for a smooth ride. I had some issues with the front brake system, but the dealer replaced it, and it's been running smoothly since then. Overall, I'm still happy with my purchase, but I may consider other options in the future.

I have recently returned my leased car to Acura. Although I had some issues with the car during the first year of ownership, the dealership was always helpful and resolved the problems quickly. Despite these initial setbacks, I found the car to be reliable for the remainder of the lease. However, I must admit that I missed the personality of my previous BMW. On the bright side, I have since discovered that the new Accord is a much nicer car and comes at a more affordable price point.

After many years of driving BMWs, I decided to try an Acura in 2015. Although the car has a 9-speed automatic, I have experienced some issues with the shifting. I have noticed that it goes faster when I take my foot off the gas, which can be a bit jarring. Additionally, there have been some jerks when shifting down into 2nd or 3rd gear. I believe that these issues may warrant further investigation, as they are unexpected for a premium car.

I filed for arbitration and settled my claim with Acura. They took the car back and gave me a cash settlement, as well as arranging for me to buy a 2016 TLX at very favourable terms. Additionally, they provided me with free service for the life of the warranty. I am pleased with the new car, as the transmission is 90 percent better than the old one. Although I would not do business with Acura Carland in Duluth, Georgia again, I had a great experience purchasing my new car at Jackson Acura. As of 2/24/19, I have driven 31,000 miles on my 2016 TLX and my earlier review of this car remains the same. Although the transmission

This is my 2nd Acura and my 5th purchase in the Honda family. I really wanted to love this car - it’s sporty and fun to drive, and the seats are so comfortable! The interior is pretty and it has a ton of options that I love. However, I have had some issues with the car not driving despite my diligence in servicing. At 30k miles in and after multiple transmission software updates, I had to completely replace the transmission. I have also experienced an undiagnosed electrical issue that sometimes results in the car not recognizing my keys, not turning on, arbitrarily disabling my garage door openers, and generating a buzzing noise when I use the touch screen system that makes me fear I’m going to be shocked. The navigation system is a bit convoluted, and you can’t adjust your air conditioning or radio until it’s fully booted. The seals on my back doors have been replaced multiple times. Despite these issues, I appreciate that Acura has taken steps to address the transmission problems with a massive recall and voluntary extension of warranty to 10 years. I have also heard about a fuel pump control recall work, which I hope will be resolved soon. While I absolutely loved my MDX, I wouldn’t recommend this TLX to anyone.
