Volkswagen Jetta 2010 problems
The Volkswagen Jetta is a compact car/small family car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen since 1979. Positioned to fill a sedan niche above the firm's Golf hatchback, it has been marketed over seven generations, variously as the Atlantic, Vento, Bora, City Jetta, Jetta City, GLI, Jetta, Clasico, and Sagitar (in China).
The Jetta has been offered in two- and four-door saloon / sedan, and five-door wagon / estate versions – all as four- or five-seaters. Since the original version in 1980, the car has grown in size and power with each generation. By mid-2011, almost 10 million Jettas have been produced and sold all over the world. As of April 2014, Volkswagen marketed over 14 million, becoming its top selling model.
Nameplate etymology
Numerous sources note that the Jetta nameplate derives from the Atlantic 'jet stream' during a period when Volkswagen named its vehicles after prominent winds and currents (e.g., the Volkswagen Passat (after the German word for trade wind), Volkswagen Bora (after bora), and Volkswagen Scirocco (after sirocco).
A 2013 report by former VW advertising copywriter Bertel Schmitt, said that — after consulting VW sources including Dr. Carl Hahn, former Volkswagen of America Chief and W.P. Schmidt, former sales chief at Volkswagen — no evidence suggested Volkswagen employed a naming theme for its front-drive, water-cooled vehicles; nor was there evidence the names derived from a theme; nor that a naming system "was ever announced, either officially or confidentially."

Common Volkswagen Jetta 2010 problems
The 2010 Volkswagen Jetta has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include stereo system problems, dead batteries, check engine lights, and fuel line recalls.
Stereo system problems are the most frequent issue, with the head-unit in the dash failing and requiring a replacement costing around $700. This problem affects the car's entertainment system and can be inconvenient for drivers.
Another common problem is dead batteries, which occur approximately every two years. This issue is caused by the car's many electronics, which can cause parasitic draw and kill the battery quickly. Replacing the battery costs around $300.
Check engine lights are also a frequent complaint, with many cars showing this issue at around 70,000 miles. The coil packs and spark plugs are known weak spots, and replacing them costs about $600. This problem can affect the car's performance and fuel efficiency, making it essential to address promptly.
Lastly, there have been six recalls for the 2010 Jetta, with the most serious one being for fuel lines that can rupture, increasing the risk of a fire. This issue is a significant safety concern and highlights the importance of keeping up with recalls and regular maintenance.

SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-16
- VIN: 3VWPL7AJ3AM
- Components: SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: In June of 2021 my car had a warning light for the DPF filter come on and told me to follow the instructions in the manual to drive it on the freeway at certain RPMs to get it to clear well that didn’t work and eventually the check engine light came on as well, I took it to the dealership and found out that the Diesel Particulate Filter was bad and needed to be replaced, the DPF was under an extended warranty because of the whole Dieselgate issue, my car had approx 95k miles or so on it when the filter was replaced along with my timing belt. Well six months later the DPF filter light came on again so I brought it back to the dealership that replaced it and they said it wasn’t their fault and that now the glow plugs and thermostat needed to be replaced to get the filter to work so I spent a bunch of money fixing that and now just recently the DPF light and check engine light came on again so I brought it back to the mechanic and they said I needed a new O2 sensor and that would fix this problem, well the replaced the sensor and I drove away and now my Turbo blew which was incredibly scary cause my car lost all power and made a crazy siren noise as I tried to get to a safe area. and my car isn’t driveable at all, my car only has 101,000 miles in it and it going to cost me over $3000 to fix the turbo when I just spent $600 to replace the sensor, $600 on glow plugs and themostat, and $1000 on the timing Belt. This is a lot of extra money to spend on a car in just one year. I don’t think that the DPF filter should be giving me problems every 6 months. I’m a single mom and I don’t know what to do, I can’t afford a new car but I also can’t afford to keep fixing this one. My car is currently at the VW dealership waiting to be fixed and I hope I’m not wasting my money just for it to break again. I’m going into Credit card debt just to keep This car running at this point.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-13
- VIN: 3VWJX7AJ3AM
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Abs and stability control became inoperative at around 50mph. It's a 55mph road thats heavily trafficked since its near a port. I had to stop the car on the side of the road since we almost crashed into an 18 wheeler. Fortunately we were close to home I drove the car at a reasonable speed just to get home. After that incident we have stopped using this vehicle since it gets even more dangerous every time, especially when it rains. Since then brake light has come on and hydraulic and suspension has been bad. This happened last year when pandemic was still full force and without a vehicle. Had to save and buy a more reliable vehicle for our own safety. I know this is a really good car but i really hope y’all can help me fix this since it’s really not the consumer’s fault. I’ve checked there is a recall for this but my “Jetta” is not in those vehicles that were recalled. I really cant drive the vehicle therefore i have no use for it. Please let me know if something could be done since i wouldn’t like to pay out of pocket for something that could be done by the manufacturer and even save our and others life’s in the future when more vehicle owners come forward. Thank you for your time.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-01
- VIN: 3vwra7aj5am
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
- Summary: The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the ABS warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ABS module, stabilizer links, and carbon manifold needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000. While the owner does not expect VW to pay for the stabilizer links or carbon manifold repairs, they do expect the ABS module to be covered because it was the same faulty module which was in all the other 2009 and 2010 Jettas which were recalled previously. This specific vehicle was, I believe, limited to 1,000 vehicles as it is a limited edition version of the 2010 VW Jetta. It does, however, have the same ABS module as the 2010 Jettas with the open recall. VW Corporate as well as Platinum VW in Hicksville were informed about the recall for 45F2 which recalled the ABS module on most VW Jettas from 2009 to 2010. We were told that our vehicle, for unknown reasons, was not part of that recall. Mind you, this is DESPITE having the same exact failure of the ABS module and Traction Control as the regular 2010 VW Jettas We got the vehicle repaired and had to pay a very large amount of money to replace and repair the module which should have been covered under the recall. We should not be penalized because we have a more limited edition of a vehicle, please help, thank you! I've attached the invoices and payment slips from VW and Eagle Nest Motors which analyzed and repaired the vehicle.
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-29
- VIN: 3VWRX7AJXAM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My ABS system light has been on, but I haven't had the funds to take care of it. I inherited the car after my daughter passed away, so I don't know how long it's been on. I was just told by my mechanic that there was a recall for this very issue. I'm not in a position to pay what they're asking, but it seems like I shouldn't have to since there was a recall for this. I don't know why your website says there are no recalls for my car, but I feel I fall in this category for the ABS recall. I had a woman pull out in front of me and my car's system didn't work

IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SELECTOR LEVER POSITION INDICATOR WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL FLASH. IN ADDITION, THE "DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL" INDICATOR LIGHT WILL BE ILLUMINATED, ALERTING THE DRIVER TO APPLY THE BRAKES.
- Consequence: THE ABRUPT SHIFT TO NEUTRAL COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: VOLKSWAGEN WILL REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 20, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

The car has some great features such as panoramic sunroof, upgraded goal wheels, and an iPod hookup. If you clean your own car, the goal wheels are definitely worth it. Although I paid a premium for diesel and fuel economy, I'm not sure if it's worth paying sticker price. Unfortunately, I experienced a massive water leak from the sunroof drain hose which leaked into the spare tire pan. This caused a couple of inches of water to accumulate in the pan and my windows wouldn't defog. However, the dealer was kind enough to provide me with a loaner to fix the issue. The pleather seats are underwhelming, but they might be nice after a sand volleyball league or mountain biking next summer. I still miss the leather seats though. On long drives, the seats can be uncomfortable and cause back and butt pain. The diesel engine doesn't sound or smell like the old diesels, so it might be difficult to find the diesel pump at the gas station.

This is my 4th VW and my 2nd TDI. I loved my previous TDI, but unfortunately, this one did not meet my expectations. Although it is more powerful than my previous TDI, the fuel economy does not match it. I have not had any major mechanical issues, just routine maintenance. However, I have experienced some minor discomforts such as a resonance (buzz) in the dash between 1500 & 1800rpm, where I end up running most of the time, and a rattling sunroof shade. Additionally, the seats were not comfortable for me as the side bolsters made them too narrow. Despite these issues, I really wanted to like this car. However, I decided to trade it in December 2015 as life is too short to drive something that does not bring me joy. I took a beating on the trade, but I was relieved to be done with it. A year later, VW came through with additional settlement money to compensate qualified sellers for the TDI debacle. Between the gift cards and the settlement, I think I was made whole financially speaking. Now that VW has

The interior of the 2010 Jetta has improved significantly over the 09 and previous models. The SE now has a standard touch-screen radio with satellite radio. The instrument panel is now white-backlit instead of the blue lit seen in previous versions that was hard to see. You will also notice the fuel economy has improved with a 24/30 rating. I am thrilled with my purchase so far!

Great to hear that you've joined the VW fan club with your first foreign car! I highly recommend taking a test drive to experience the thrill for yourself, don't let others sway your decision.

This car has great power and a lot of pep! We've had great longevity with it, and as long as you keep up with maintenance, it will last a long time.

Hi there! I noticed that you have both positive and negative reviews on your 2010 Jetta 2.5T. I also saw that your check engine light stays on and your local dealer thinks it might be a pinhole sized emissions leak. They suggested a repair, but I understand that it can be costly and there are no emission requirements in your state. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

This car was enjoyable to drive once it got going. However, we did experience some issues with the DSG transmission, which could be jerky and startling when downshifting. Additionally, we noticed an unusual smell in the interior that persisted from the day we purchased it until the day we traded it in. Despite the VW dealer's assurance that this was normal, we were not satisfied. The dealer attempted to address the issue by performing an AC service to 'clean' the system, which did improve the smell for a time. However, the original smell eventually returned. Overall, we were disappointed with our experience and would not consider purchasing another VW in the future.

The car is perfect for a first car. It's a bit outdated now, but it's a nice car to get you to where you need to be. It's easy to take care of, fast, and reliable if you do right by it. Although replacing parts in the car, such as axials, alignments, and other parts, can get pricey, taking care of the car will ensure that it takes care of you. Good luck!

This car has had several issues since I purchased it, including a stuck passenger seat, a faulty electrical system, and a broken trunk. Additionally, I have had to replace the air conditioner and headlights multiple times. Despite these challenges, I have been able to manage the situation and keep the car running. While I have had negative experiences with the dealership, I have been able to find alternative solutions for maintenance. Overall, I am confident in my ability to handle any issues that may arise with this car.

I have owned my car for 5 years or 100,000 miles. Unfortunately, the AC compressor and particulate filter/catalytic converter have recently failed, costing $1600 and $5100 respectively. Additionally, the timing belt will need to be replaced at 120,000 miles, which will cost $1200. Despite these expenses, the NADA value of the car is $9000. Based on my experience, I have decided not to purchase another VW.
