Volkswagen Cc problems

The Volkswagen CC, initially sold as the Volkswagen Passat CC, is a car built by German marque Volkswagen from 2008 to 2016. It is a variant of the Volkswagen Passat that trades headroom and cargo space for a coupé-like profile and sweeping roofline. The CC debuted in January 2008, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and was discontinued after the 2017 model year.
Volkswagen said the name CC stands for Comfort Coupe, recognizing its combination of a coupe-like profile with four rather than two doors. While based on the Passat, and sharing its wheelbase, the CC is 27 mm (1.06 inches) longer, 50 mm (1.97 inches) lower, and 36 mm (1.42 inches) wider than the Passat.
While the CC has been replaced by the Arteon in most markets, the latter vehicle retains the CC nameplate in China.

Common Volkswagen Cc problems
The Volkswagen CC has been known to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine and timing chain. According to CarComplaints.com, the worst problem category for the Volkswagen CC is engine problems. This issue is particularly prevalent in the 2012 model year, which has the highest number of complaints regarding engine problems. The most frequently reported problem is the check engine light turning on, which can be a sign of various engine issues.
One of the primary concerns with the Volkswagen CC engine is the defective timing chain, which has been reported in multiple model years, including 2011 and 2012. The timing chain is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle, but in the Volkswagen CC, it has been known to fail prematurely, causing significant engine damage. The main concern is the failure of the timing chain tensioner, which can lead to the timing chain slipping and causing the engine's pistons and valves to collide, resulting in severe engine failure. This issue has led to a class-action lawsuit against Volkswagen, with allegations that the company knew about the problem and should have informed consumers.
Another common problem with the Volkswagen CC is the frequent timing belt failure, which can also lead to engine issues. This problem has been reported by drivers and has contributed to the car's low reliability rating.
The Volkswagen CC has also been known to have problems with the transmission, which can lead to issues with the car's driving dynamics. This problem has been reported by drivers and has contributed to the car's low reliability rating.
In addition to engine and transmission problems, the Volkswagen CC has also been known to have issues with the brake lights, which can be a safety concern for drivers. This problem has been reported by drivers and has contributed to the car's low reliability rating.
Overall, the Volkswagen CC has been known to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine and timing chain. These issues have contributed to the car's low reliability rating and can lead to significant repair costs for drivers. It is essential to be aware of these problems when considering purchasing a Volkswagen CC, particularly for the model years with the highest number of complaints.
Is the Volkswagen CC reliable?
Repairpal.com indicates that the average annual repair cost of a used Volkswagen CC is $880, which is higher than average in terms of ownership costs for similar vehicles. Given this fact, it's imperative that you take your used Volkswagen CC to a repair shop if you notice any problems with it.
What problems does VW CC have?
The CC, among other VW models, is known to have timing chain issues. Designed to last the car's lifetime, the timing chain has been reported to fail early, causing significant engine damage. The main concern is the failure of the timing chain tensioner, leading to the timing chain slipping.
How many miles can a VW CC last?
You can expect a typical Volkswagen to last around 200,000 miles, which is solid for any vehicle. The Volkswagen CC matches up with this average on the higher end, though it could come in lower in some cases.
Why did VW stop making the CC?
Now, Volkswagen has cast off the aging, underperforming model as it seeks to reclaim lost market share and revenue with the CC's shadowy replacement. Sources tell Britain's Autocar that assembly of new CCs has ceased as the automaker preps an all-new entry to slot above the midsize Passat.

- Summary: Started having problems with the fuel tank at around 65,000 I had an extended warranty on the vehicle and around 80,000 they replaced the entire fuel tank… recently, I started smelling gas very strongly inside my vehicle and took it to a honest mechanic who was able to find the fuel pump which is located behind the backseats he told me the pump is sweating and there’s a puddle of gas in it and that’s why I have the strong smear smell of gas in my vehicle. He says that it’s not even safe for me to drive the vehicle at this time and at this time, I’m trying to buy another car because I have to keep the windows down, so I don’t pass out from the smell of gas … I called Appleton Volkswagen of Sanford as they switched out the whole fuel tank at 80,000. The vehicle has about 190,000 now … there was just a recall put out for the fuel pump for certain Volkswagen year 2015 and above, but the CC is not on this.? I I feel like it should be in the recall because my car is very unsafe to drive and I’m scared that I’m gonna blow up a fire of flames right now just driving it to the repair they’re not because this is very unsafe ……

- Summary: Hi, I’ve had my turbocharge replaced in October of 2020 at the Volkswagen dealership in Wichita, KS. Just recently my car started driving funny again such as not accelerating like it should with a slight whining noise. I can only get up to 25-30 mph then the whining noise starts up to where I have to take my foot off the gas, let my speed drop itself then proceed to accelerate again which is very dangerous. Since I had already experienced this problem not even 3 years ago I knew but I still went to get the car diagnosed and again it is the same exact problem not even 3 years later.

Volkswagen Cc 2016
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-22
- Date Complaint: 2023-05-05
- VIN: WVWBN7AN2GE
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I purchased my Volkswagen CC in 2019. It hasn't been officially 4 years of owning the vehicle, and the clock spring or air bag light comes on in which it seems every 1.5 years. It costs over $800 to repair, and the first repair was replaced by certified VW OEM parts. I can't get an inspection and pass because the horn will not work. My safety is put at risk as I can't warn other drivers who aren't paying attention that I am close by. I actually ended up getting a ticket for switching lanes so fast due to getting out of the way of a vehicle on the interstate who almost ran into me. There is no warning when this happens, it just decides to stop at any given time. This page will not allow me to upload the other scanned diagnosis that was repaired from 2020. Please advise.
Volkswagen Cc 2013
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-01
- Date Complaint: 2023-04-14
- VIN: WVWBP7AN5DE
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: While I was driving I notice my steering wheel making a crumbling of plastic noise when I made any kind of turn . A few days later my Airbag error lamp started to blink. I parked and restarted my engine then the airbag became solid . My dash read “Airbag Error” . I notice all my steering wheel buttons do not work . Came home and neither does my horn . My car has never been in accident , but I feel it’s a safety hazard . I’m basically driving mute and I’m sure my airbag will not deploy in case of accident . Also, Vw does have a recall on the Clock spring but was never completed due to not hearing back from manufacturer . That was a few years back and do not understand how recalls work , but a recall was started for a reason and NOT completed. Is that even possible? This a serious safety issue if I’m in an accident without an Airbag . Also the horn will not work in case to warn other drivers of a possible fatal hazard

- VIN: WVWBP7AN4FE
- Components: AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My Cruise Control unit will not engage. And I have (6) six warning lamps showing every time I operate the car. With these lamps showing on the info system screen, the cruise control Will not engage! I asked the dealership about it. And was told that the wheel bearing unit has moved away from where it is bolted on. And now it is touching the Air Bag control module. That's why I've got six lamps showing up on the center info screen, every time I operate the car. And on another incident. I was traveling on the interstate and their was some water that had collected in a dip between hills. And when I traveled through it, the force of the water flowing into the engine department, knocked the cruise control OFF. Disengaged it. I'm am available for inspection of said vehicle. Oh yes, this happened once before, but all of a sudden all the warnings lamps turned off. But I'm not so lucky now. It doesn't seem to affect the Air Bags any, But I could be Wrong! The dealer explained what has happened within the components of my problem. But, since I wasn't forth coming to pay them to check or repair it, nothing got done. And it has been going on for about 6 - 8 months.

I've had my CC for 2 months and I must say, I absolutely love it! So far, I haven't had any issues to report. The only thing I would change is that I feel it should come standard with the VW Fender sound system. The stock system in mine is not the greatest - it can be very tinny sounding with some distortion. Additionally, satellite radio cuts out with any overhead impediment (like being under a roof at the bank teller). Other than that, things have been great. I love the styling inside and out. The engine is peppy and powerful enough for me and I've gotten pretty good mileage - roughly 32 mpg average according to the trip computer. I'm interested to see how it will do in winter driving.

I must admit that I bought this car mainly because I love the way it looks and feels very upscale compared to other cars in this category. I also love the way it drives and, to me, the fuel economy is pretty good, especially for long drives, which I typically take between California and Oregon. Although there were a few maintenance issues when I first got the car, it has been great since then. It is still a head-turner with its sleek design. Even after driving more than 50,000 miles since purchasing it, the car is still solid and rattle-free. Although there are some little things showing wear, like the cracked vinyl on the armrest of the driver's door and the interior lights that won't come on when I open the door, even when I correct the settings, the car is still performing solidly with 149,000 miles on it. However, I must say that I have had some reliability issues with the car, having had to replace the Mass Air Flow sensor, some other sensor a day after that one, the water pump, and now the engine control module, all of which cost me $880.00 and happened just after the warranty expired. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving the car and appreciate its great gas mileage.

It's so great to hear that you're enjoying your Candy White CC! It sounds like you're really getting the most out of it, having already driven 10,000 miles in just 5 months. The CC is definitely one of our favourite VW models too, and we're glad to hear that you're enjoying the 2013 refresh. The dual xenon headlights that move as you turn the steering wheel and the gorgeous tail lights are definitely standout features. It's always nice to receive compliments on your car, especially when people are unfamiliar with the CC and it exceeds their expectations. The 2.0T is a peppy motor and with the APR stage 1 ECU tune it's even quicker. Overall, we think the CC is a great bargain for all that you get. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

I absolutely love my Sport model CC with 2.0L Turbo engine and 6 speed DSG auto transmission! Even without any extras, it's equipped very well with uncomplicated controls and handles better than competitive Toyota models (e.g., Avalon, etc.) while still being less expensive. My wife and I have taken many road trips in it and we couldn't be happier with the consistently superior and firm, yet never harsh, road handling qualities and graceful smoothness. The standard headlight system, which directs Xenon light toward my intended steering angle a little below 30 mph, is superior to similarly equipped luxury models. Plus, it's easy to beat the 31 mpg highway rating and we get around 24-25 mpg around town. The trunk has plenty of room (plus fold down rear seats) for our needs and it does well enough for occasional back seat passengers if they take care upon entering due to the CC's lower roof line. There's plenty of room inside both front and back and without a top brace around the windows, the doors have less of a barrier to entry. The windows snug up a full inch after they close, which ends the old issue of air compression when shutting the doors. Our CC is an all-around well-balanced sedan that's quietly attractive as well. In fact, after 30k miles over the last 14 months, this VW just gets better and better. It's a silent highway cruiser and kind of elegant and economical for everyday use around town. On several occasions, people have come over to me and asked what make the car is and when I tell them, they make comments around the notion that it doesn't look like any VW they've noticed before in a complimentary way. The main point is that this CC wears very well indeed as a safe, roomy, economical vehicle with a sporty feel! After driving 48k miles, my CC is still an amazing car. I recently put on a new set of Michelin tires, which made the ride even quieter. Now, with 58k miles, I haven't had to take it to the dealership for anything and the CC is holding up really well. In fact, the car still looks and feels fresh. Even with 68k miles on it, I still appreciate the car as much as before. However, when the engine light came on indicating a faulty intake manifold runner flap, I started to appreciate VW's 100k drive train warranty program. VW installed a complete new manifold with several new parts in just one day, and didn't charge me a penny. Now the car feels like new again, and I feel lucky to have received such great service from VW, especially given the mileage on the vehicle. It's kind of amazing these days...

I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive experience with your car! It's great to know that the 4-cylinder engine performs well and that the DSG Transmission is unique and interesting. It's also reassuring to hear that you haven't had any issues with the car and that the only expenses have been for maintenance. I can understand your disappointment about the lack of a sunroof in that model, and the slight shake when shifting into reverse. Additionally, it would be nice if the steering was a bit stiffer. However, overall, I would definitely recommend this car to anyone. It's important to keep up with regular maintenance, such as using proper oil and doing transmission fluid flushes and carbon cleaning every 30k miles, to ensure the longevity of the engine and transmission. German cars require a bit more attention, but with proper care, they can be very reliable. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I have been the owner of my 2011 CC Lux Plus since November of 2010. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the car that have been quite frustrating. Despite doing a year's worth of research and feeling confident in my decision, the electronics have never worked properly. For example, the Bluetooth does not work with my iPhone and the navigation system often thinks I'm in Florida when I'm actually in New York. Additionally, the transmission has caused some difficulty when parallel parking. Although the car has been in for service 5 times, I have not had the best experience with VW customer service. Overall, I have had some challenges with my car, but I am hopeful that they will be resolved soon.

My wife bought a 2009 VW CC in July 2015. Unfortunately, on the first day of owning the car, the fuel pump failed. Luckily, we purchased the car in CT where the dealers have to give you a 90-day warranty. The car was in the shop for 2 weeks and the total bill came to well over $1000. However, we were fortunate enough not to have to pay for it. The car drove well for a few months, but then the brake booster failed in February 2016, which was a $700 fix. Recently, my wife had trouble starting the car while at work. We had to replace the coil packs, which was a $500 job. The car was out of the shop for no more than a few weeks when the check engine light came on, indicating a dreaded P2015 code (intake manifold issue). Luckily, VW has a warranty for this, which covers it for 10 years/120k miles and it was fixed free of charge. We got the car back yesterday (07/16/16), but this morning the car wouldn't start. I would advise staying far away from these cars as they have caused us nothing but headaches!

I purchased my CC pre-owned certified with 22k miles from the dealer. Unfortunately, the brakes failed while driving (bad vacuum booster) after one month. Luckily, I avoided an accident. However, when I contacted Corporate, they said they could not offer any compensation because I did not get into an accident. In the next four months, I experienced three more warranty-related issues. Now, I am in the process of arguing with the corporation and dealer to sell back the car. However, they insist on only offering trade-in value so they can resell at a profit. Although it does not qualify for the lemon law, this car has been a true lemon. I have driven most VW models as loaners while my CC is in the shop, and unfortunately, one of those broke down while in my possession. So much for German Engineering. I have decided to go back to Mazda.

The car drives really well with its responsive 2.0L turbo, great steering, slick DSG gearbox, and is an all-around fun to drive sporty sedan. Despite the low roofline, it's plenty roomy and has ample trunk space. However, after hitting 39K after about 30 mos., a few issues arose such as a leaky shaft seal, a bad water pump, and now an issue with the adaptive headlamps. Unfortunately, I didn't buy an extended warranty because I never intended to keep the car past 50K, which was a big mistake. By the time I get the headlamp issue resolved, I will be out about $2000 in repairs, which is simply unacceptable. The xenon adaptive headlamps are impressive, but be advised that the xenon bulbs are extremely expensive, costing $350-450 to replace one. This is largely due to the cost of the bulb/transformer and the fact that the entire front bumper cover must be removed to change the bulb. In summary, while it may feel like a fragile car, it's still a great car to drive.

My CC has had two new intake manifolds and even a new engine after only 80k miles. Despite the car being only 3 years old at the time, VW refused to offer any discount or assistance since it was out of warranty. Unfortunately, I have had to replace the tires every year and struggle to keep them aligned. Additionally, I have had to replace every taillight and headlight at least a couple of times. To add to my frustrations, the headliner recently fell down. Although it is an expensive repair, I am confident that I will be able to resolve this issue. While I have had some challenges with this car, I am determined to find a solution and make it work for me.
