2006 Jaguar Xj8 problems

jaguar logo

The Jaguar XJ (X308) is a full-size luxury saloon car manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars for years 1997–2003 across two generations and featuring the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine and Jaguar independent rear suspension. It was the third and final evolution of the Jaguar XJ40 platform that had been in production since 1986. It was preceded by the Jaguar XJ (X300).

Exterior

The X308 kept much of the same exterior styling as its predecessor, the Jaguar XJ (X300), carrying its rounded four-headlamp bonnet, low roofline, sloping tail, and wrap-around rear light clusters. From the front, the two generations can be differentiated by the shape of the indicator lenses (rectangular on the X300, oval on the X308), and also by the shape of the fog lamps and lower valance air intake, both of which are more rounded on the X308.

The front and rear bumpers were both changed along with the taillights which had red/clear lenses rather than red/grey lenses. The grille surround and badging was slightly changed. The headlight fixtures also included forward parking lights housed with the brights, new to X308.

Common 2006 Jaguar Xj8 problems

The Jaguar XJ8, produced in 2006, is known for its luxurious interior, high-gloss wood trim, and powerful V8 engine. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems.

  • Center Arm Rest Cup Holder May Break: This issue is not exclusive to the 2006 Jaguar XJ8, as it is a common problem across various Jaguar models. The center armrest cup holder may break due to wear and tear or poor design. While it is not a critical issue, it can be inconvenient for drivers and passengers who rely on the cup holder for their beverages.
  • Plastic Timing Chain Tensioners May Fail and Cause Engine Damage: This issue is more serious than the previous one. The plastic timing chain tensioners in the XJ8's engine may fail, leading to engine damage. This problem can be costly to repair, as it may require replacing the entire engine or significant engine components. It is essential to address this issue promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
  • Overheated Engine May Damage the Vehicle: An overheated engine can cause significant damage to the Jaguar XJ8. It is crucial to monitor the engine temperature regularly and address any issues promptly. Overheating can be caused by various factors, including a malfunctioning cooling system or a faulty thermostat. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent this issue from occurring.
  • Suspension Bushes May Wear Out: The Jaguar XJ8's heavy suspension can cause the suspension bushes to wear out over time. This issue can lead to clonking noises, especially when turning into a corner quickly. It is essential to listen for any unusual noises and address them promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
  • Electronic Trickery May Fail: The Jaguar XJ8 has lots of electronic trickery on board, which can sometimes fail. It is crucial to check all the electronic functions, including the on-board entertainment system and satellite navigation, to ensure they are working correctly. If the satellite navigation is not picking up a GPS signal, it may indicate a problem with the system.
  • Corrosion: Despite being made from aluminum, the Jaguar XJ8 is known for suffering from corrosion. This issue is thought to be caused by the steel rivets that bind the aluminum body together, which can create corrosion in the aluminum panel. It is essential to address this issue promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
  • Diesel Particulate Filters: Diesel versions of the Jaguar XJ8 feature particulate filters that need to be cleaned out. These filters clean themselves, but they require a run at motorway speeds every couple of weeks to do so. If your driving is mainly around town, you may be better off with a petrol model.

In conclusion, the Jaguar XJ8 is a luxurious vehicle with a powerful V8 engine, but it has its share of common problems. It is essential to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle and ensure its longevity. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these issues from occurring.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-03-30
  • VIN: SAJWA79B36S
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: JAGUAR HAS LESS THAN 600 MILES / YR, NEVER PARKED OUTSIDE, DRIVEN IN ANY TYPE OF WEATHER BEFORE FAILURE. 3-30-2015, AFTER 170 MILE RIDE, TOPPED THE FUEL OFF BEFORE PLACING BACK INTO INSIDE COVERED STORAGE. NEXT MORNING I DISCOVERED SIGNIFICANT FUEL LEAKAGE ON THE FLOOR UNDER THE REAR OF THE JAGUAR ACCOMPANIED BY SEVERE GASOLINE FUMES THROUGHOUT THE STORAGE GARAGE THAT IS ALSO ATTACHED TO OUR RESIDENCE. UPON CAREFULLY PUSHING THE JAGUAR OUT OF STORAGE AND TAKING OVERT MEASURES TO SECURE THE DANGEROUS SITUATION, INSPECTION REVEALED A SERIOUS FUEL LEAKAGE CONDITION ASSOCIATED WITH THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THIS CAR HAD BEEN A FLAWLESS AND VERY ENJOYABLE AUTOMOBILE THAT WE HAD EVERY INTENT KEEPING INDEFINITELY THROUGHOUT OUR RETIREMENT. SEARCHING ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THE NHSTA RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR WHICH WE HAD NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE WHATSOEVER, IN SPITE OF OUR OWNING THIS JAGUAR SINCE 2006 AND NEVER HAVING CHANGED OUR ADDRESS OR OWNERSHIP TITLE. DELIVERED THE JAG TO HOEHN JAGUAR CARLSBAD, CA AND THEY CONFIRMED THE RECALL AND LEARNED THE REQUIRED FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY WAS NOT IN STOCK. A WEEK LATER I WAS NOTIFIED THE REPAIR ASSEMBLY WAS RECEIVED AND I BROUGHT THE JAG BACK TO HOEHN FOR WHAT WAS PROMISED A 'SAME DAY REPAIR' - THIS IS DOCUMENTED ON THE REPAIR ORDER NO. 96331. WITHIN THE DAY I WAS NOTIFIED OUR JAG HAD BEEN DISASSEMBLED PRIOR TO DISCOVERING THE "REPAIR KIT" WAS ONLY THE MAIN FUEL CELL AND WAS MISSING 27 OTHER REQUIRED COMPONENTS - BUT- HOEHN WOULD ORDER THE MISSING COMPONENTS AND IT WOULD BE 'ANOTHER COUPLE OF DAYS'. IN THE INTERIM, OUR BELOVED JAG WAS PUSHED OUT OF THE WORK BAY AND LEFT IN THE UNPROTECTED PARKING LOT BAKING IN THE SUN AND RAIN STORMS THAT OCCURRED. 1. JAG STILL NOT REPAIRED AS OF 02 JUN 2015 2. NO PROMISE DATE FOR REPAIR 3. "MISSING PARTS NOT AVAIL", PER JAG USA SEE MY LETTER OF 21 MAY 2015

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-11-12
  • VIN: SAJWA71B56S
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE 2004 THROUGH 2006 JAGUAR XJ8S AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR REPAIR IN REGARD TO THIS MODEL'S AIR SUSPENSION. IN COLD TEMPERATURES (30 DEGREES F OR BELOW), THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM FAILS TO KEEP THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SUSPENDED. A RED LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS UP AND THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYS THE WARNING, "VEHICLE TOO LOW". THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT OCCURRED THIS MORNING, 11/12/2013, AS I STARTED MY CAR (27 DEGREES F OUTSIDE). UNFORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED TO ME 6 MONTHS AGO WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE ACROSS COUNTRY WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DIPPED TO 29 DEGREES F. I WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH AT THE TIME THAT THE SUSPENSION SUDDENLY DROPPED. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR CAR ACCIDENT. AS SOON AS THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE RISES ABOVE 30 DEGREES F, THE AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR KICKS IN AND LIFTS THE VEHICLE UP TO ITS APPROPRIATE HEIGHT. THIS KNOWN DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE AIR SUSPENSION IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ENACTED AGAINST THE MANUFACTURER, JAGUAR. I HAVE DISCOVERED ON THE INTERNET COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
