The Toyota T100 is a full-size pickup truck produced by Toyota between 1992 and 1998. It was developed strictly for the US (and Canadian) markets, where larger pickups have a sizable market share.
History
As Toyota firmly established itself in the North American compact pickup truck market in the 1980s through 1990s, the company offered a truck that was larger than the compact as an alternative to the traditional North American full-size pickup truck market. North American Toyota dealers had long been clamoring for a full-sized Toyota truck, especially in light of the high percentage of Toyota Pickup owners who moved on to domestic full-sized trucks. The T100 reflected a philosophy of designing products specifically for localized international markets, where traditional products sold and made in Japan wouldn't sell well. This approach is also demonstrated with the introduction of the mid-size Toyota Camry (XV10) which was larger than the compact Toyota Camry (V30) in 1991, and again in 1997 when the Toyota Sienna replaced the slow selling Toyota Previa.
Rumored for many years before, the 1993 Toyota T100 boasted a full-size (8 ft) pickup bed but retained the engine and suspension setup of its smaller and older sibling, the compact Toyota Truck. Although the T100 was a bit larger than the competitive mid-size Dodge Dakota, it was still markedly smaller than full-size American pickup trucks of the time. This meant that the T100 occupied its own niche in the truck market. Before introducing the T100, the company reflected on its history of commercial truck manufacture and products they offered in the past. Past products started with the Toyota G1, the Toyota FA, the Toyota BX, the Toyota Stout, the Toyota ToyoAce, and the Toyota Dyna, and its market successes with their Hino Division. Though economical, reliable, and practical, the T100 was slow to be accepted by traditional buyers of full-size competitors, while it was larger than both the Toyota Truck followed by the Toyota Tacoma compact trucks. Wary of the market pushback of competing directly with the Big Three, Toyota chose this somewhat smaller size (and limited lineup) so as not to risk blowback and import quotas. The T100 was designed and engineered for the North American market and was not sold in Japan.
Although sales were slow at the start, the T100 sales did reach into the mid 40,000 vehicles sold range (1996) in the United States. Sales of the Chevrolet C/K were roughly 700,000 per year, while sales of the Ford F-Series surged from 550,000 to nearly 850,000 and Dodge from 100,000 to 400,000 with the introduction of the new Dodge Ram in 1993. Sales of the T100 fell approximately 30 percent when the new Ram went on the market in October 1993, 11 months after the T100's launch in November 1992.

KNOWING THAT TOYOTA DID A RECALL ON A SIMILAR TRUCK MODEL OF THE SAME VINTAGE, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I ASKED THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO DO AN ASSESSMENT OF THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT TOYOTA COULD THEN BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS RATHER RUDE AND SAID THE WARRANTY ON THE TRUCK HAD EXPIRED AFTER THREE YEARS AND THAT IF I WANTED AN INSPECTION, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. I AM SHOCKED THAT WHAT I HAD THOUGHT WAS A PERFECTLY GOOD USABLE VEHICLE HAS NOW BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. I'M FAMILIAR WITH RUSTY VEHICLES HAVING LIVED IN WISCONSIN NOW FOR 47 YEARS, BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS KIND OF THING BEFORE. I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD EITHER REPLACE THE FRAME OR BUY OUT THE VEHICLE FROM ME. TOYOTA ADVERTISES AS TO THE PERCENTAGE OF THEIR VEHICLES ARE STILL ON THE ROAD WITH SOME KIND OF PRIDE; PERHAPS THEY SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE AT THE SAME TIME HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE PUTTING THEIR LIVES AT RISK BY DRIVING THOSE VEHICLES. AS TO THE ROTTED FRAME, BOTH MAIN RAILS ARE ROTTED IN THE BACK. THE FRONT LEFT TIRE SUSPENSION HAS RUSTED THROUGH. THE REAR TRANSAXLE HAS RUSTED NEAR THE REAR RIGHT TIRE AND IS LEAKING FLUID. BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND ARE LEAKING. SPARK PLUG? THAT ATTACHES TO THE EXHAUST PIPE (REBURN SYSTEM?); BOTH NUTS HOLDING THIS ON HAVE DISINTEGRATED AND NO LONGER HOLDING THIS DEVICE TIGHT (THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THE NEWLY DISCOVERED EXHAUST RATTLE). *TT

- Summary: I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKER WHILE DRIVING AND GO OFF AND ON. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON TILL I TURNED THE POWER OFF IN THE CAR AND RE-STARTED THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

I bought this truck when it was already totaled, with no repairs done and no maintenance while hauling a contracting trailer every day for several years. After straightening the frame, replacing the front suspension a-arms, and installing a junkyard rearend, I changed all the fluids, timing belt, and water pump. I then used this truck to commute up and down one of the steepest roads in the Wasatch range of Utah for several years. Later, I towed several heavy trailers across the Rockies and Cascades and used the truck to access surf spots along the Washington coast for several years, frequently driving in sand, mud, and deep snow. Despite having 200K on it and being uglier than your mom, it runs like a top!

I bought this truck with 90,000 miles and now have 171,000. It's been a great companion for both farm work and commuting. It handles hills and highways with equal ease. It's been incredibly reliable (no surprises there) and has held up well despite some rough treatment. The bumper guards behind the plastic moulding below the bumper have been a lifesaver. All in all, this is one fantastic truck!

I drove all the way to another state to buy this truck, and I have to say, I was a little nervous about it because it had 116,000 miles on it when I bought it. But all that worry was for nothing! The truck has been amazing. It has well over 130,000 miles on it now and it still drives better than my Mustang, which has half as many miles. The Mustang has been in and out of the mechanic's countless times, while the truck has been used heavily and still runs like a dream. I drive it all the time and have never had a single problem with it. It may not be the flashiest truck out there, but it drives great. And did you know that the T-100 actually has a wider interior than the new Tundras? I was surprised too! And while I don't know what they were thinking when they put a 4 cyl in it, it still gets me where I need to go... eventually.

I bought this truck new and it's still going strong. Both of my sons have used it in college and one is still using it now. It's a very tough truck as it has been used off-road from time to time. The engine and transmission are top-notch for durability and reliability. I'm looking forward to many more years of use!

The cup holders can sometimes cause problems with the heat/cold levers, and the seat belts may slacken and get caught in the door. Additionally, the sun visors are of poor quality and size, and the throttle linkage can be tight, causing jack rabbit starts. However, overall, I am thrilled with this truck's performance, style, and quality of ride. Yes, I like it a lot!

I purchased this vehicle with 70000 miles in '99 and enjoyed every minute of ownership until the end. I religiously changed the oil and performed regular transmission and coolant services, as well as following the owner's manual. However, I experienced head gasket failure that led to cylinders 3 and 6 getting 'burnt' (as the mechanic put it) at 158000 miles. As a Toyota owner, I expected to get at least 200000 miles out of the product if I followed the recommended maintenance. I am disappointed in this outcome, but I still believe in the quality of Toyota products.
