2005 Toyota Camry problems
The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Common 2005 Toyota Camry problems
The 2005 Toyota Camry is known for its reliability, user-friendliness, and refined powertrains. However, like any vehicle, it has been subject to specific issues that owners have reported. Here are some of the common problems with the 2005 Toyota Camry based on complaints from owners:
- Brake issues: The most common issue with the 2005 Toyota Camry is related to brakes not stopping the vehicle properly. This problem was reported nine times at around 85,000 miles, with an estimated repair cost of $5,000. This issue can cause a dangerous situation while driving, and it is essential to address it promptly.
- Electrical problems: According to CarComplaints data, electrical problems are the most common category of issues with the 2005 Toyota Camry, with 20 out of 125 total complaints. These issues can range from minor inconveniences to significant safety concerns, depending on the specific problem.
- Interior accessories: The second most common category of issues with the 2005 Toyota Camry is interior accessories, with 18 out of 125 total complaints. These issues can affect the overall driving experience and can include problems with the audio system, climate control, and other interior features.
- Powertrain issues: The 2005 Toyota Camry has had issues with powertrain control modules, causing rough shifting and jerking when the transmission changes gears.
- Torque converter failure: This issue is common in the 2007-2011 Camry models and can cause the vehicle to shudder while the transmission changes gears. This problem can be solved by having the transmission rebuilt or replaced, and it can be prevented by giving the transmission some TLC and ensuring it has adequate fluid.
- Door lock failure: This issue is common in the 2007-2011 Camry models, and it can be caused by off-track windows, bad fuses, and malfunctioning window regulators. This issue can be a significant safety concern, and it is essential to address it promptly.
- Excessive oil consumption: This issue is a result of poorly designed piston rings that can cause oil to leak past at high rates, leading to engine failure if oil levels are not monitored closely. While this issue can be fixed by replacing the piston rings, it is cheaper and easier to keep a close eye on oil levels by checking them weekly.
- Transmission slippage: This issue is common in the 2010 and 2011 Camry models and can cause jerking, hard shifting, refusal to go into reverse, and hesitation to accelerate. This problem can be solved by having the transmission rebuilt or replaced, and it can be prevented by giving the transmission some TLC and ensuring it has adequate fluid.
- Melting dashboard: This issue is common in the 2002-2006 Camry models and can create a dangerous glare from the sun. In January 2015, Toyota agreed to extend dashboard warranty coverage for melted dashboards. The extended warranty lasted until May 31, 2017, but you can still call Toyota at 800-331-4331 to see if they’ll replace your dashboard free of charge. Another solution is to get a dashboard cover.
- Deteriorating rear speaker covers: This issue is common in the 2002-2006 Camry models, and it can cause the plastic Toyota used to manufacture the rear speaker covers to crack or crumble after prolonged exposure to the elements. The best thing to do is replace the speaker covers as soon as possible.
In summary, the 2005 Toyota Camry has been subject to several common issues, including brake problems, electrical issues, interior accessories problems, powertrain issues, torque converter failure, door lock failure, excessive oil consumption, transmission slippage, melting dashboard, and deteriorating rear speaker covers. While these issues can be concerning, it is essential to address them promptly and take the necessary steps to prevent them from occurring in the first place.

This is the only car I ever bought relatively new from a dealer. I bought it at 60k miles and sold it at 90k. It was a very comfortable car with great performance. The fuel economy was about 31 during usual driving and up to 40 on road trips. However, it wasn't great on ice. My theory is that the weight of the car was distributed too far to the back to make for optimal front wheel drive traction. The only issue I had with it during that time was the paint. I had the blue color, and that paint would scratch or chip if you even breathed on it wrong. The front hood was a mess of chips. The paint was kind of a ridiculous worry, but it stressed me out and made me happy to get rid of it at the end of our time together.

Hi there! This car may not be the sportiest option out there, but it's definitely a great choice for families looking for an efficient and reliable mid-size car. It boasts a respectable road manner, predictable handling, and a quiet cabin that makes for a smooth ride. :)

Your car seems to be running fine, but I understand that you're having some trouble with the transmission shift. It's frustrating when the dealer says it's normal, but you don't believe it. It's especially tough when it's your first foreign car and you've never had this issue before. I can see why you're feeling frustrated. You mentioned that you've had cars since 1969 and never had a transmission shift like this, which makes it even more concerning. You've even driven rental Camry's that were great, so it's understandable that you're wondering why your car is having this issue and why the dealer won't fix it. Let's see if we can find a solution together.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I absolutely love my Camry! I've driven it for over a year now and put almost 20,000 miles on it, and it's been such an amazing vehicle. Even though mine is a 4cyl. SE, it's got some nice kick to it. I really think Camry owners get their money's worth because it's such a great car all around. I've never had any unexpected or unexplained issues with it, and it never quits. Plus, it's so fun to drive, looks great, and the ride quality is just astonishing. And to top it off, I actually get about 23 to 24 miles per gallon in the city, even when I'm running late for work and have to take off quickly. It's always nice when people envy your car, isn't it? Oh, and just a little note - my vehicle is an automatic, even though the only choice for SE 4cyl was manual. Thanks for listening!

This car is fantastic! It gives a beautiful ride and is extremely comfortable. It's also very quiet and feels like it's built solid. Plus, it comes with plenty of standard features like AC, push button windows, remote mirrors, and electric door locks. And don't forget the cruise control and AM/FM cassette, CD stereo that come standard too. I have the 4 cylinder and it's more than enough for me. I even added the ABS brakes, which also includes the electric driver's seat. Overall, this car is a great choice!

I purchased a 2002 Camry LE, but had to sell it soon after because the car was emitting a large amount of white smoke when starting the engine every morning. I then bought a 2005 Camry with only 73,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, it had the same issue of emitting white smoke when starting the engine every morning. I reached out to a friend who also owns the same model, and he confirmed that he was experiencing the same problem. I was disappointed with Toyota's 2.4 engine. When I reported this matter to Toyota customer care, they rejected my request for a free repair as my car was no longer under warranty. I believe this is a recall problem, as every same model seems to have the same issue. I consulted with a mechanic who suggested that it might be an engine oil leak.

The V6's 5-speed transmission can be improved. Acceleration from a stop and kickdown to pass could be quicker, as the current lag time can be dangerous. It is important to address these issues to ensure a safer driving experience.

My 2005 Camry has 215,000 miles on it. Although I had to replace the brake caliper, I am now experiencing some transmission issues. However, with 215,000 miles on the clock, it's not surprising to encounter some wear and tear. I am confident that I can address these issues and keep my Camry running smoothly for many more miles to come.

The transmission on my car has been changed and repaired twice, yet the 1-2 and 2-3 shifting remains problematic and causes vibrations. Additionally, the high rear end obstructs visibility when parking, and the front bumper catches parking wedges, leading to damage of the thin plastic undercarriage.

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry, which is actually my second Camry. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the quality of this car. The fabric inside has become bunched up like cotton balls, and the ceiling fabric has started to fall apart. Additionally, the plastic inside the car has become quite loose. I have found that the value of this car is not as good as my previous Camry. My sister also experienced similar issues with her 2012 Camry. It's a shame that the materials used seem to be of lower quality. Due to these issues, my sister and I have decided to explore other options and have shared our experiences with others.
