The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

A short circuit may develop in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor, preventing the front passenger air bag from deploying.
- Consequence: An air bag that does not deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the sensor as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed February 2, 2024. A second notice will be mailed once the remedy is available. Multiple phases are planned through 2026. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. As someone who has recently driven German sedans, including the E-Class and 5-Series, I can honestly say that the new Camry (as well as the Accord and Sonata) is now so good and refined that the German cars are no longer worth their hefty premium. This is a well-known fact in the auto industry. The current Camry is not only refined and well-built, but also well-engineered, making it an absolute pleasure to drive. In fact, it's even better than the Accord! If you're having trouble deciding between the Hybrid and regular Camry, I recommend the hybrid. You'll get better acceleration with the 4-cylinder engine and save the planet at the same time! Plus, your friends will think you've gone green instead of wondering if you're having money problems because you downgraded from a 530i or something similar to a Camry. In fact, my family has two 2021 Camry Hybrids, a LE and SE. The base LE has a plush ride and is smooth as silk, making it feel like you're getting a Lexus for 60% of the price. The SE, on the other hand, handles better (thanks to its bigger wheels) and has a great Sport steering wheel. It also has a stiffer suspension, but it's not too harsh. It's more like a German sedan for half the price. One thing I highly recommend is getting the cold weather package with the heated seats! While the heated seats are available, they're not standard on both the LE and SE (but they are standard on higher level models). The seat heaters require more cushioning to be added to the seats, so they're thicker and more padded. They're FAR more comfortable and ergonomic than the basic seats that don't have this package. I know this because I've driven both of our cars regularly, one with and one without the heated seats!

First hybrid. I'm loving it! I can't even tell if it's running at lights 😊. And what can I say about the gas mileage? It's amazing! So far, this car has been awesome. I highly recommend it for anyone who's not ready for an EV but wants to dip their toes in the water.

The car has great mileage, but according to Consumer Reports, it was tested at 47 mpg instead of the stated 50+ mpg. During acceleration, the gear transition is fairly smooth in ECON mode, but it's not as lively as the Accord Hybrid Base. In NORMAL mode, the gear transition is jerky and hesitant, and not as smooth as the Accord Hybrid Base. When it comes to the interior, the Camry has a bigger screen than the Honda Accord Hybrid, but the Honda has better man-made leather trim than SoftTex in terms of feel and texture. Additionally, the Camry feels safer with a shifter compared to the push-buttons in the Honda.

I used to own a Lexus ES350 and a Prius, but I was looking for a hybrid sedan from Toyota. After getting the Prius, I didn't drive my ES very often as it required premium fuel and had poor mpg. I test drove several models including the Avalon Limited hybrid, Prius AWDe, Camry XLE hybrid and Lexus ES300h. In my opinion, the Lexus vehicles are not as good as they used to be. I didn't like it and the Avalon was too big. The Prius was good, but the Camry felt just right and was more substantial than the Prius. I ended up buying a fully loaded Camry XLE hybrid and honestly, the more I drive it, the more I love it! It truly is a wonderful car with great hybrid mpgs. I can go 500 miles or more on a tank, usually squeezing 12 gallons of gas into the 13.3 gallon tank. Not bad for a family sedan. I do wish they made a Camry prime though!

The trunk wires in my new Camry shorted out, causing damage to the car. Despite Toyota changing their story three times, they are refusing to fix the issue, claiming it is inconclusive. However, I am confident that there is a problem and that Toyota is attempting to avoid paying for repairs on potentially thousands of cars. I strongly advise against purchasing this car or doing business with this company.

The car has very little ground clearance, which is fine on a perfectly flat road. However, you might need to get out and push it over a speed bump to avoid damaging the front-end. Additionally, I have noticed some off-white spiders coming out of the vents since I bought it.

It's always nice to have a comfortable car, and it sounds like you're getting a decent amount of mileage out of your 12-gallon tank. The car was fine, but the screen quality in the car could be improved. Additionally, the grille seemed a bit plasticky, and the chair color and look could be improved, although they were comfortable. On the bright side, the trunk space was pretty big, and the car drove well. It was a smooth drive and maneuvered well.
