Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & manufacturing North America, Inc. (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
- Consequence: A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

I've been driving hybrids since 2004, starting with a Prius and an Insight. I also had the chance to test drive the Fusion and was seriously considering the new Fusion to come... someday. I've also driven the Volt, and while the techno wizardry is way cool, the numbers and economy for my long commute just don't make sense. The Prius C is cool and efficient, easily averaging 57mpg, but it seemed small like my Honda Insight. However, when I drove the 3rd Gen Prius, I thought it was a major improvement over my 2nd Gen in terms of ride and economy. Then I drove the Camry and practiced my hyper-milage skills I learned just to see what I could do around town. I got 63 in town and 53 on the highway. When driving normally, I got 47 mpg.

This Camry Hybrid Le is an excellent vehicle. During the first week in FL, I got an average MPG of 45.2 with mixed city and freeway mileage. As usual, TOYOTA delivers what it promises, unlike other brands that promise MPG but always come up short (KIA/Hyundai/Honda). The ride is smooth and quiet, and the Michelin tires and superior build quality make this the best value available in the US currently. Thank you, TOYOTA, for this quality vehicle. Perfect!

As a second-time Camry Hybrid owner, I've driven over 60k miles in my 2010 model without any issues. However, I was feeling a bit bored and decided to try out the 2012 model. It's pretty similar to my previous car, but with the addition of the little EVO button, which adds some excitement to the driving experience. It can even give the V6 a run for its money while still achieving an impressive 40 MPG.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with the 2013 Camry XLE. As someone who has driven a 97 Camry for 16 years, I was excited to upgrade to a newer model. However, I have noticed that the suspension is much stiffer than what I am used to, which has been a bit disappointing. I was also surprised to find that the front seat backs curve forward near the top, making it difficult for me to find a comfortable driving position due to my height. Despite these issues, I have found the hybrid drive system to be wonderful and efficient, consistently achieving mid to high 40s MPG. The car also handles well and has plenty of power. We confidently chose the hybrid option and paid a premium for it, as we keep our cars for a long time. We expected to reach the EPA estimate of mileage within 5 years, but after a year of driving, we are only averaging 34 MPG. Our driving has mostly been in the city, but we have noticed that we get above 40 MPG on the highway. Despite taking it back to the dealer a couple of times, they have assured us that there is nothing wrong with the car. We also contacted Toyota, who confirmed that 34 MPG is within the expected range and does not indicate a problem.

This car is certainly comfortable to drive and has great gas mileage. However, I have experienced some initial quality issues. In the past 3 months, I have had to take it back to the shop 5 times for various issues such as a defective speaker, a loose sunroof side garnish, a missing rear seat belt buckle, and a functionality problem with the JBL premium sound system. Although there is still an undiagnosed vertical grease smear on the right rear power window and the radio needs to be addressed, Toyota has been very helpful in addressing these issues. While it has been a bit of a hassle, I appreciate their efforts to resolve these problems.
