The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & manufacturing North America, Inc. (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
- Consequence: A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Buying a hybrid is all about gas mileage, isn't it? I've been driving my 2012 XLE for about 1.5 months now and have covered nearly 1000 miles. When I filled up the tank, the odometer read 672, which means I got 49 MPG with combined city/highway driving (primarily city). That's 20% better than advertised! The second tank isn't quite as good, but still quite respectable at 47.6 MPG. The vehicle is designed to get great gas mileage. If you drive it conservatively (slow takeoff, slow stops), you'll probably get similar results to mine. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the car. It's incredibly quiet, has plenty of power when needed, and has all the luxury I need.

We are thrilled with our decision to trade in our 2007 Camry Hybrid for the new XLE version. The electronics are much more intuitive, especially the voice commands, and the seats are incredibly comfortable. The interior plastics are attractive and not cheap-looking. Even in winter weather, we are still getting about 40 miles per gallon, which is fantastic for a hybrid. We love the USB port that allows us to easily access our entire music collection on the screen. The car has a powerful 200 horsepower engine that beats the upcoming Ford Fusion, and the acceleration is velvet smooth with plenty of zip. The steering is responsive, and the car has a rock-solid feel. We are also learning to appreciate the blind spot monitor. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase.

The 2012 Camry Hybrid is an outstanding vehicle. In comparison to the Fusion, Optima, and Sonata hybrids, it is the best in terms of quality, performance, comfort, and fuel economy. The Camry Hybrid is a quiet, solid, and comfortable car that moves when you need it to. With a total quality of 38.3 mpg avg cty/hwy after 2700 miles, it is a great choice. The Entune infotainment system is also fantastic. I was originally considering an Optima, but after seeing repeated negative owner comments regarding noise, seating, performance, and maintenance, I started looking elsewhere. The Camry Hybrid provides complete peace of mind, with no worries about salesperson and maintenance competence or manufacturer quality, unlike Kia and Hyundai.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with the 2013 Camry XLE. As someone who has driven a 97 Camry for 16 years, I was excited to upgrade to a newer model. However, I have noticed that the suspension is much stiffer than what I am used to, which has been a bit disappointing. I was also surprised to find that the front seat backs curve forward near the top, making it difficult for me to find a comfortable driving position due to my height. Despite these issues, I have found the hybrid drive system to be wonderful and efficient, consistently achieving mid to high 40s MPG. The car also handles well and has plenty of power. We confidently chose the hybrid option and paid a premium for it, as we keep our cars for a long time. We expected to reach the EPA estimate of mileage within 5 years, but after a year of driving, we are only averaging 34 MPG. Our driving has mostly been in the city, but we have noticed that we get above 40 MPG on the highway. Despite taking it back to the dealer a couple of times, they have assured us that there is nothing wrong with the car. We also contacted Toyota, who confirmed that 34 MPG is within the expected range and does not indicate a problem.

This car is certainly comfortable to drive and has great gas mileage. However, I have experienced some initial quality issues. In the past 3 months, I have had to take it back to the shop 5 times for various issues such as a defective speaker, a loose sunroof side garnish, a missing rear seat belt buckle, and a functionality problem with the JBL premium sound system. Although there is still an undiagnosed vertical grease smear on the right rear power window and the radio needs to be addressed, Toyota has been very helpful in addressing these issues. While it has been a bit of a hassle, I appreciate their efforts to resolve these problems.
