Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & manufacturing North America, Inc. (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
- Consequence: A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

I no longer own this car, but I traded it in for a 2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Touring. Let me tell you, this car is even better than the 2013 Camry Hybrid that I previously owned! My wife and I absolutely LOVE this car. The only downside is that it doesn't have cup holders in the doors. However, it's incredibly quiet, comfortable, and beautiful inside. The blind side and lane change warnings are also fantastic. Plus, it has ample power and, as expected, great gas mileage.

This was a wonderful car in almost every respect. It had plenty of interior and trunk space, a quiet and comfortable ride, and an impressive gas mileage that averaged about 40 true mpg. The only real drawbacks were the combination leather and fabric seats, which could have been more comfortable and looked better, and the Entune navigation system, which could have been easier to use.

I bought this car used at 25K miles and it has been extremely reliable with an average of 40 mpg. No complaints on reliability, performance, efficiency. I had a few minor issues with the interior fit and finish, but nothing that could not be easily fixed. Overall, it's a great car that I would have no hesitation of buying again.

Your car has been performing exceptionally well for the past 5 years with no issues, just regular maintenance such as oil changes, filters, and tires. The original brakes have lasted an impressive 55,000 miles and are still going strong. The only minor inconvenience is the decal on the shift handle which is wearing off, as I like to keep my hand there. The car consistently achieves an impressive 40 mpg and even managed to travel from northern NJ to Washington DC to Annapolis Maryland and back on just one tank of gas, which is truly amazing. Additionally, the car handles very well in snowy conditions. The only downside is that the trunk is a bit small.

Your 2012 XLE Hybrid has been a reliable car for the past 10 years, with 320,000km on the clock. It has only required (2) brake jobs, the first one at 160,000km and the second at 290,000km. Additionally, one front wheel bearing was replaced in 2022, and you have only needed to replace the tires and windshield wipers. The original Hybrid battery and 12V battery are still going strong, proving that battery life is not an issue after (10) years. It's safe to say that this is the best car you have ever owned, and you even bought another one. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

We confidently chose the hybrid option and paid a premium for it, as we keep our cars for a long time. We expected to reach the EPA estimate of mileage within 5 years, but after a year of driving, we are only averaging 34 MPG. Our driving has mostly been in the city, but we have noticed that we get above 40 MPG on the highway. Despite taking it back to the dealer a couple of times, they have assured us that there is nothing wrong with the car. We also contacted Toyota, who confirmed that 34 MPG is within the expected range and does not indicate a problem.

This car is certainly comfortable to drive and has great gas mileage. However, I have experienced some initial quality issues. In the past 3 months, I have had to take it back to the shop 5 times for various issues such as a defective speaker, a loose sunroof side garnish, a missing rear seat belt buckle, and a functionality problem with the JBL premium sound system. Although there is still an undiagnosed vertical grease smear on the right rear power window and the radio needs to be addressed, Toyota has been very helpful in addressing these issues. While it has been a bit of a hassle, I appreciate their efforts to resolve these problems.
