- Summary: Hi I am a kind of new owner of an 04 saturn ion, this is actually the second complaint I've filled out. Last July I had a mechanic friend look at my fuel filter and he had said the fuel line needed to be cut off becuase of how rusted on to the original fuel filter I'd got it with was and I didn't believe him so I replace it myself and when I got it off I had cleaned up the metal fuel line the best I could and put a new filter on. Well now it leaks gas right where the hook up is and very strong fuel smells come from there too, I've gotten numerous comments about how un safe that is to be driving it but I need to have a way to work and then someone had mentioned to check for recalls and I seen on there that this car did have a recall for faulty fuel filter gas lines. If you could get back to me as soon as possible about an inspection if needed or whatever else you'd need on my behalf. Please and thank you for your time

Saturn Ion 2004 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 10 recalls for different components of the Saturn Ion 2004.
- Manufacturer: UCI-FRAM Group
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
- Consequence: If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
- Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. GM vehicle owners requiring additional information on that recall campaign should contact GM at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac) or 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn).
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
- Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx, 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo), 2010 Cobalt, 2008-2009 Saturn Aura and 2004-2007 Ion, and 2005-2009 Pontiac G6. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
- Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four bulletins. Parts are not currently available. GM expects to send an interim notification around May 28, 2014. When parts are available, owners will be mailed a second letter to come in to have the applicable bulletin applied. Bulletin 14115 covers model year 2004-2007 Saturn Ion, 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts. Dealers will replace the EPS motor. Bulletin 14116 covers model year 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from March 1, 2008, through June 27, 2008. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Owners of 2008 and later vehicles will be mailed an interim letter on April 21, 2014. All affected owners will receive another letter once parts are available. The recall began on April 18, 2014. I've had this car for just over 2 years and have loved every minute of it. Keep in mind that the car is not dent-proof, only dent-resistant, so it's best to avoid any accidental bumps. However, I'm happy to report that my car still doesn't have a single ding on it. (The top of the car is not dent-resistant, but that very seldom poses a problem.) I'm equally pleased with all the other features of the vehicle. It's a great ride, comfortable, and has decent gas mileage.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share with you my experience with my 2004 Saturn Ion. I bought it a year and a half ago from the original owner with 138k miles on it, and now it has 186k miles (I know, I drive a lot!). I had to replace the alternator at 155k, but other than that, this car has been a hidden gem. It's actually better than a Corolla because it's more affordable and doesn't have the same reputation. I originally bought it to get me through law school, but I've grown so attached to it because it's been so reliable that I just can't bring myself to sell it. I plan on keeping it until it falls apart. Thanks for listening!

I traded in my big SUV for this little car 4 years ago and we still love it! Despite having a rebuilt salvage title (due to a previous accident) and 75k miles, it has been a reliable and efficient vehicle for us. With over 30 mpg and minimal repairs, it has been a great investment. The only maintenance we've had to do is keep relays on hand for when the electrical steering goes out, which used to happen monthly but it has been 2 years since we've had to replace them. We also did struts and brakes at 110k, and a fuse for the cigarette lighter. Of course, we've also done the normal things like battery, oil changes, and spark plugs. We plan to keep driving this car until our family doesn't fit! Thank you for considering our experience with this wonderful little car.

This is my first car and I love it! It's perfect for a teenager with its awesome styling, good gas mileage, and peppy engine. I feel so sporty driving it, especially since it's manual and red. I'm proud of my gas mileage, which is almost identical to my girlfriend's '07 Civic, even though hers is rated for much better mpg.

An awesome car for a young person buying their first car! It's reliable, sporty, and looks great!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Saturn. I initially bought it because I had heard great things about their reliability and customer service. Unfortunately, I've had some issues with the IC chip in the ignition, which seems to be a common problem. When I reached out to Saturn for help, I didn't receive the assistance I was hoping for. They suggested I take it to a local GM dealer or drive an hour to the nearest Saturn dealer. It was definitely frustrating, and it's a shame that Saturn went out of business. Based on my experience, I wouldn't personally buy another Saturn or recommend one to others.

I chose to purchase a Saturn based on the positive experiences of my friends who owned older models. However, my Ion did not live up to my expectations of customer loyalty from GM. Unfortunately, I experienced several issues with my vehicle such as rattling in the front suspension at 20,000 miles, a frozen ignition switch in 20-degree weather, a broken wiper gear case, and front wheel bearings that began to make noise at 60,000 miles. Despite having a $2,000 warranty and a 5-year warranty that applied from the day the car was assembled, I received no assistance. When the 'check engine' light came on and I was unable to diagnose the issue myself, I decided to purchase a Corolla from Toyota. If you are considering purchasing a used Ion, please be aware of the potential issues. For more information, please refer to other reviews listed on this site.

This car is a prime example of why GM should improve their quality control. Despite being faced with various issues, I took the car back to the dealership every month for the first year and each problem was resolved. These issues included electric steering failure, central computer glitches, and an anti-theft device that would lock the car ignition during cold weather. Although it was frustrating to deal with these problems, I am grateful for the dealership's assistance in resolving them.

It's a shame that my wedding day didn't go as planned. My mother and I were enjoying brunch when we had to deal with a car issue. We tried to get it fixed but unfortunately, it didn't work out. The accident that followed was quite scary and caused a lot of damage. It's unfortunate that I missed my wedding and that the marriage didn't last, but I learned a valuable lesson. I hope others can learn from my experience and avoid similar situations. Take care!

I recently purchased an '04 Ion 3 Special Edition Package and I am thrilled with the plush interior and amenities that come with it, all for under 20K. I traded in my '02 Subaru Impreza WRX due to an expired warranty and excessive insurance premium, and I am now saving $1800 a year on insurance. The dealership experience was positive and the incentives, including the GM Supplier Discount of $900 off of MSRP, $1500 Down Payment Assistance, and 0% financing, were exceptional. Our Ion came with some great options, such as a power sunroof, a sharp tan and black interior, unique 16
