2015 Ram Promaster problems
Ram Trucks, stylized as RAM and formerly known as the Ram Truck Division (of Chrysler), is an American brand of light to mid-weight trucks and other commercial vehicles, and a division of Stellantis (previously Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). It was established in a spin-off from Dodge in 2010 using the name of the Ram pickup line of trucks. Ram Trucks' logo was originally used as Dodge's logo. Ram 1500 "Classic" trucks are made at the Warren Truck Plant in Warren, Michigan, United States, and at the Saltillo plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. New series Ram 1500 pickups are made at Sterling Heights Assembly in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Since its inception, the brand has used the slogan "Guts. Glory. Ram."
Background
Prior to the 1970s, Dodge had maintained a separate marque for trucks, Fargo Trucks, primarily for use outside the United States. After that point, all trucks made by Chrysler were distributed under the Dodge marque.
In June 2009, when Chrysler emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Fiat Group received a 20% stake in Chrysler Group LLC and Sergio Marchionne was appointed CEO, replacing CEO Robert Nardelli. On June 10 that year, substantially all of Chrysler's assets were sold to "New Chrysler," organized as Chrysler Group LLC. The federal government provided support for the deal with US$8 billion in financing at near 21%. Under CEO Marchionne, "World Class Manufacturing" or WCM, a system of thorough manufacturing quality, was introduced and several products re-launched with quality and luxury. The Ram, Jeep, Dodge, SRT and Chrysler divisions were separated to focus on their own identity and brands.
Ram Trucks was established as a division of Chrysler in 2010, as a spin-off from Dodge, and using the name of the Dodge Ram line of pickups that is now sold under the Ram banner. According to Chrysler, the Ram Trucks brand will concentrate on "real truck customers," rather than casual truck buyers who buy trucks for image or style.
The Fiat Ducato cargo van design has been adopted and is sold as the Ram ProMaster in North American markets, filling the gap created when Daimler ended production of the Dodge Sprinter in 2008. The goal was to increase truck sales "from today's 280,000 to 415,000 by 2014."
Executives at Chrysler have stated their intention to compete in the semi-trailer truck category with Ram, a possibility that is aided by Fiat's ownership of Iveco and an already available network of Dodge dealers. Ram trucks are marketed separately from Dodge cars; former Ram Division President Fred Diaz stated, "Ram trucks are not a Dodge model. Ram will always be 'vinned' (Vehicle Identification Number) as a Ram. We need to continue to market as Ram so Dodge can have a different brand identity: hip, cool, young, energetic. That will not fit the campaign for truck buyers. The two should have distinct themes."
On July 21, 2011, Fiat bought the Chrysler shares held by the U.S. Treasury, increasing its stake in the company.
In April 2013, Diaz left Ram Trucks to serve as vice president of Nissan's divisional sales and marketing. He was replaced by Reid Bigland.
Fiat Chrysler formed as a new corporate entity in January 2014.
In August 2014, Ram Trucks CEO Reid Bigland was tapped to lead the Alfa Romeo brand in North America. It was announced that the new head of the Ram Trucks brand would be longtime Chrysler employee Robert Hegbloom, who joined Chrysler in 1986 and had been a director for Dodge. In October 2018, Bigland was promoted to CEO of Ram Trucks. Shortly thereafter, he discovered that the division had been misreporting sales figures and turned over that information to the U.S. government for investigation. Allegedly, FCA cut his bonuses in retaliation, which resulted in Bigland filing a whistleblower lawsuit against FCA. In March 2020, Bigland announced his resignation.
Stellantis formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler merged with the French PSA Group.
The Ram brand logo features the head of a ram, formerly the logo used by Dodge.

Common 2015 Ram Promaster problems
Common Problems with the Ram Promaster 2015 based on Complaints from Owners
- UConnect Infotainment System Issues: The UConnect infotainment system in the Ram Promaster City has been known to boot into a blank screen, becoming unresponsive to touch, or reboot at random times. This issue has been reported by several owners, and it can be frustrating as it forces owners to turn off their cars, restart, and hope for a better outcome.
- Head Studs and Engine Problems: Some owners have reported engine problems with the 3.6 Pentastar engine in the Ram Promaster. One owner reported that their cylinder head had a broken or cracked exhaust valve after 93,000 miles. They had to replace the head, but the replacement head had a different coolant temperature sensor hole size, requiring an adapter to thread in .
- Battery and PCM Failure: Some owners of the Ram Promaster 2015 have reported issues with the battery dying and the PCM reading multiple faults. One owner mentioned that their battery died for good, and the PCM was on order for over three months. The dealership told them that it was a bad battery cable connection that screwed up the PCM, making the van undrivable without the PCM.
- Heated Seat and Airbag Light Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the heated seat stopping working and the airbag light coming on in the Ram Promaster City. These issues have been reported by a few owners, but they are not as common as the transmission shifting and RPM issues or the UConnect infotainment system issues.
In summary, the Ram Promaster 2015 has several common problems that owners have reported. These include transmission shifting and RPM issues, UConnect infotainment system issues, head studs and engine problems, battery and PCM failure, and heated seat and airbag light issues. Owners should be aware of these issues and consider them when purchasing or maintaining their Ram Promaster 2015.
What are the recalls on a 2015 Dodge Ram ProMaster?
See, FCA and NHTSA have issued a recall for 2015-2018 Ram ProMaster vans with either the 3.0-liter diesel or 3.6-liter gasoline engine and air conditioning over concerns that the engine's electric cooling fan could have an issue in which its motor can seize, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.
Is the Ram ProMaster reliable?
Per RepairPal, the Ram ProMaster reliability score is a two out of five, which is pretty poor. Not to mention, the average annual cost of repairs is $1,072. This can cause concern for some who are in the market for a campervan — especially if they will be living in it full-time.
How long do ProMaster engines last?
Life Expectancy
However, consumers report that the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster regularly last until 150,000 – 200,000 miles without major engine problems. And the Mercedes Sprinter regularly lasts anywhere between 250,000 and up to 600,000 miles without significant engine problems.
Is ProMaster better than Transit?
In the “Promaster vs Transit” dimensions face-off, both vans offer ample space for conversions, with the Transit giving four more inches vertical room in its high roof models. However, the Promaster takes the lead in terms of width, offering a tad more horizontal space.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-03
- VIN: ZFBERFBT3F6
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: We purchased the van in April 2024, and the mileage was 130268. We checked the oil regularly and noticed the level dropping. After driving it 3080 miles and checked the oil level after letting the vehicle sit over night. The oil level was down almost 2 quarts. I contacted the dealer and told them what happened and they mentioned that there was a recall for some Promaster City vans. I looked up the information and found the recall marked as W80. I contacted Chrysler and they said our vehicle isnt listed and to contact the NHTSA. It has the same problems and is losing the oil in the same amounts as specified in the recall but for some reason, our VIN isnt listed in the recall.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-03

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-04
- VIN: 3C6URVJG4FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: exited a freeway, and when taking off at the stop vehicle lunged forward into the intersection and went out of gear. after repeated attempts to accelerate, drove about 200 feet and dropped out of gear again. Had vehicle towed to Dealer who said needed a new transmission and a left engine and transmission mount because the mounts are breaking causing the engine and transmission to drop nearly to the pavement. An article posted June 2019 by certtrans details the failure (search online for: mopar fix for ram promaster transmission bracket breakage). There are many possible catastrophic safety issue from this failure. Why have these vehicles not been recalled for these defective mounts? The upgraded mount was an additional $847. The price alone may scare some people off from replacing with upgraded mount. At highway speeds when the engine and transmission fall down the angle of the drive axles alone could cause breakage and loss of power. Plus there are a many other possibilities for this to cause a crash.

UPON RESEARCHING MOPAR SAFETY RECALLS, I CAME ACROSS RECALL VB1, WHICH PERTAINS TO EGR COOLERS OF RAM 1500S WITH ECODIESEL ENGINES NEEDING REPLACED. I CALLED MOPAR, AND THEY SAID VB1 DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VIN, EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME ENGINE. I AM WONDERING IF VB1 IS THE SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH MY PROMASTER 1500 WITH AN ECODIESEL ENGINE, AND IF ANY OTHER PROMASTER OWNERS WITH THE ECODIESEL HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR IS TOO HIGH TO JUSTIFY PAYING FOR IT, AND IN ALL HONESTY, IS TOO HIGH TO JUSTIFY HAVING BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN THE FIRST PLACE, ESPECIALLY IF OTHER ECODIESEL VEHICLES ARE HAVING THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE.

WE TOOK IT TO THE DODGE DEALER AND WERE TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. WE HAD THEM FIX IT AND CONTACTED CHRYSLER WARRANTY FOR HELP. THEY DENIED THE CLAIM. WE HAVE 2 OF THESE IDENTICAL VEHICLES AND RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE OTHER VEHICLE, VIN# [XXX]. THEY TOLD US THAT THE VEHICLES WERE MAD AT DIFFERENT PLANTS SO IT WAS NOT COVERED. HOW CAN ONE BE COVERED AND THE OTHER NOT WHEN THE PARTS ARE IDENTICAL. IT MAKES NO SENSE. THIS OBVIOUSLY COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION IF NOT CAUGHT IN TIME. WE WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU COULD GIVE ON THE PROBLEM. I HAVE UPLOADED DOCUMENTATION FOR YOUR REVIEW. WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-12-07
- VIN: 3C7WRVFD8FE
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THERE IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE PARKING BRAKE WHICH CAUSES IT TO FREEZE AND LOCK UP IN COLD TEMPERATURES. THIS VEHICLE HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH NO PARKING GEAR SO THE PARKING BRAKE IS REQUIRED TO PARK THE VEHICLE SO THAT IT DOES NOT ROLL. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT WATER GETS INTO THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE AND FREEZES IN SUBZERO TEMPERATURES CAUSING THE PARKING BRAKE TO NOT ENGAGE, NOT RELEASE, OR ONLY RELEASE PARTIALLY SO THAT IT DRAGS. FROM THE DRIVERS PERSPECTIVE IT APPEARS NORMAL OTHER THAN HAVING LESS OR NO TENSION WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER IS APPLIED.OR RELEASED. WHEN THE CABLE IS FROZEN WHILE THE BRAKE IS DISENGAGED, THE BRAKE DOES NOT ENGAGE, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO PROPERLY PARK THE VEHICLE. WHEN FROZEN WHILE ENGAGED, THE BRAKE REMAINS ON OR ONLY PARTIALLY RELEASES WHICH CAUSES IT TO BE UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OR THE BRAKE WILL DRAG AND OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE TWO OF THESE VEHICLES PURCHASED AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME FROM . ONE IN MINNESOTA AND THE OTHER IN TEXAS. BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM SO IT CLEARLY NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. ONE COST US OVER $2000 TO FIX BECAUSE THE ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY BECAME OVERHEATED AND DESTROYED ALMOST ALL OF THE WHEEL COMPONENTS. I'VE ATTACHED THE INVOICE FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! I HAVE NOT BROUGHT THIS UP EARLIER BECAUSE I WAS CERTAIN THAT IT WOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS BY NOW. WE USE THESE FOR DELIVERIES AND NOW OUR MANAGER IN MINNESOTA WILL NOT OPERATE THE VAN IN THE WINTER FOR SAFETY REASONS. TODAY THE DRIVER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE AT DELIVERY STOPS SO HAS TO FIND A PLACE TO PARK ON A HILL WITH THE WHEELS TOWARD THE CURB. THIS IS NOT A SAFE WAY TO PARK THE VEHICLE. THESE VEHICLES REALLY NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-10-02
- VIN: 3C7WRVLG3FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: IN 2017 I PURCHASED A RECREATIONAL VEHICLE WITH A DODGE CHASSIS WITH THE ATTACHED VIN. IT CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 4500 MILES ON IT. FROM THE VERY BEGINNING I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTING WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55 TO 65 MPH) WHICH PEGS THE TACH (7000 PLUS). THIS WOULD OCCUR WHEN TRAVELING UP SLIGHT GRADES WHILE ON CRUISE CONTROL AND WOULD HAPPEN AT RANDOM INTERVALS (ROUGHLY 200 MILES) WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DODGE DEALER AND DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH THEM. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT SAID IT WAS AN "ADAPTIVE" TRANS WHICH HAD TO ADJUST TO MY DRIVING AND DIDN'T OFFER ANY SOLUTIONS. AT THE THIRD VISIT TO THE DEALER THEY RELOADED NEW SOFTWARE FOR THE TRANS, BUT STILL OFFERED THE "ADAPTIVE" ARGUMENT, AND STILL WOULDN'T GUARANTEE A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT DOWN SHIFTS THERE IS SO MUCH ENGINE BRAKING AND RAPID DECELERATION THAT I FEAR A REAR END COLLISION. ADDITIONALLY, DRIVING ON SLIPPERY ROADS (GRAVEL, FROST, SNOW, RAIN) COULD EASILY RESULT IN A SKID AND POSSIBLY COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL.
ENGINE PROBLEM

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-05-05
- VIN: 3C6URVJG8FE
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: WATER ENTERS THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE COWLING BELOW THE WINDSHIELD IS A 2-PIECE UNIT WITH A "JOINT" IN THE MIDDLE, WHERE WATER ENTERS AND FORMS ON TOP OF THE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP. THERE IS ALSO A LEAK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND FLOWS ON TOP OF THE FUSE BOX AND ELECTRICS. THERE IS ALSO A LEAK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE WATER ENTERS FROM THE HOOD VENT AND GOES ONTO THE AIR INTAKE AND THEN CAN GO INTO THE ENGINE. MANY OWNERS HAVE CONTACTED THEIR DEALERS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING SINCE 2015. SEVERAL OWNERS HAVE HAD THEIR ALTERNATORS QUIT BECAUSE OF WATER AND THE ENGINE HAS DIED WHILE DRIVING. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION GO TO WWW.PROMASTERFORUM.COM UNDER GENERAL DISCUSSION AND DO A SEARCH FOR WATER IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. GOOGLE ALSO PROVIDES INFORMATION. THIS IS HAPPENING IN EUROPE A WELL AND THEY HAVE SOLVED IT WITH A DRIP PAN, AND/OR OTHER MEANS OF SEALING THE AREA. I ALSO HAVE A VIDEO OF THE LEAKING WHEN IT RAINS, BUT CAN'T UPLOAD IT.
