Porsche Taycan 2022 problems
The Porsche Taycan is a battery electric luxury sports sedan and shooting brake car produced by German automobile manufacturer Porsche. The concept version of the Taycan, named the Porsche Mission E, debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show; the production Taycan was revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. As Porsche's first series production electric car, it is sold in several variants at different performance levels, and may spawn further derivatives in future models. More than 20,000 Taycans were delivered in 2020, its debut sale year, representing 7.4% of the total Porsche volume. A modified Taycan Turbo S is the current Formula E Safety car.
The name "Taycan" (/taɪ-dʒan/) is a reference to the steed on the coat of Arms of the city of Stuttgart, found on the Porsche crest. In Turkish, tay means colt or young horse, and can means lively. The "Turbo" name used in the higher trims is purely for branding purposes as the vehicles, being electrically powered, do not actually have turbochargers. The Taycan combines Porsche's renowned driving dynamics with electric efficiency, featuring a two-speed transmission for optimal performance and range, which can exceed 321 kilometres (199 mi) depending on the model and driving conditions.
Design
The Taycan's interior features Porsche's first fully digital instrumentation, with up to four digital displays, including a curved, free-standing 430 mm (16.8 in) configurable driver's display. A 280 mm (10.9 in) screen to the right of the instrument cluster is the car's infotainment center. An optional screen to the right of the infotainment screen allows the front passenger to customise the infotainment system. On the centre console, a 210 mm (8.4 in) portrait-oriented, touchpad-controlled screen shows the powertrain's status and advises the driver on using the car's power efficiently. In contrast with the all-digital layout, the dashboard features the classic Porsche clock at its top.
The exterior styling, by former Porsche Exterior Designer Mitja Borkert, is strongly influenced by the Mission E concept car, retaining most of its design elements except the "suicide doors" and B pillars. Design features of the Taycan include a retractable rear spoiler, retractable door handles, and an advanced regenerative braking system. Taking full advantage of its drivetrain layout, the Taycan combines the fundamental short-nosed front proportions of traditional Porsches with the stretched proportions of modern front-engine models towards the rear, providing clear design links to existing models. The front features four-point LED daytime running headlamps. At the rear, the car has a short notchback-style boot lid, housing a full-width light band serving as taillights and turn signals and providing access to one of two luggage compartments. The other compartment is under the bonnet, with a claimed capacity of nearly 100 litres. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S models include carbon-fibre trim and 20-inch wheels.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-18
- VIN: WP0BA2Y1XNS
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving on the city streets, the vehicle would not accelerate properly. At a stop sign, when pressing the accelerator, the vehicle started to jerk forward slowly and would not accelerate properly. A turtle started to flash on the cluster display. Trying to get to a safe location, the vehicle kept jerking forward slowly while slowly increasing speed and flashing the turtle icon.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-10
- VIN: WP0BA2Y1XNS
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving on the freeway at 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to quickly decelerate. Pressing the accelerator pedal had no effect. The car behind me quickly swerved to avoid hitting me. I was able to maneuver the car onto the shoulder and very slowly exited the freeway. I noticed a warning light shaped like a turtle on the cluster display flashing. I stopped fully and turned off the vehicle. The car was then towed to the nearest Porsche dealer. One week later, the dealer was inspected the vehicle and was unable to reproduce the issue. No repair was performed and Car was returned.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-21
- Fire: 1
- VIN: WP0AC2Y1XNS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The Porsche EV Charger started an electrical fire in the wall of my garage while charging on May 21st 2024. The charger melted as a result. On the way to take my car to the dealership the dash became very hot to the touch as well. Fast forward to today, my car is still at the dealership. They have contacted me and asked me to pick it up and return my loaner car. They cannot however provide me with a new charger for my car. Porsche has sent out new chargers as part of this recall but they don't have the software in place so the chargers are useless right now. Porsche will give $500 toward the purchase of a 3rd party charger but they told me that they will not accept any responsibility if the third party charger damages my vehicle in any way and they acknowledge that using the suggested 3rd party charger may void my vehicle warranty. They refuse to provide me with a loaner car until my car can safely be charged with a Porsche charger that wouldn't void my current warranty.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-22
- VIN: WP0AB2Y13NS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I just contacted Porsche Customer Service and they told me that the replacement cables for the charger were available and my Porsche dealer could order me one. I went to Porsche Fresno and spoke to the service manager who said he had no information saying that these cables were available and if they were I would have gotten a letter from Porsche saying so. He also said that when they become available he will get an allocation of them. Please make Porsche Customer Service stop putting out misinformation! The original recall letter for this was dated January 22, 2023. Today is May 26, 2024. Porsche has had 490 days, or 70 weeks, to provide safe cables for these mobile chargers. This is not acceptable performance on the part of Porsche!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-26
- Fire: 1
- VIN: WP0AC2Y12NS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: On 3/26/23 my 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo self-ignited in our garage and created a lithium fire literally incinerating itself and completely destroying 3 other cars, the garage and approximately 35% of our home. The resulting fire filled the home with smoke, soot and required us to leave the house immediately and we have yet to return. The car was not being charged at the time of the fire; the charging unit was stored in the truck anticipating the dealership's promise to pick up the car for repair (again) the very next day. It was a four alarm fire supervised by the Bloomfield Township Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff's Department. My wife and daughter personally witnessed the origin of the fire. The flames came from the bottom of the driver's side wrapping over the top of the Porsche and igniting the garage and the other cars. All cars were a complete loss. The Porsche Taycan was originally purchased new on 9/30/22 and was in and out of the dealership starting 2/9/23. The Service History is attached herein.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-23
- VIN: WP0AA2Y13NS

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-10
- VIN: WP0AB2Y13NS
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Porsche sent a "Important Safety Recall" notice to me dated January 22, 2023 about their defective power cable for the mobile charger for my Taycan. This notice promises that Porsche will replace the cable with an updated version "at a later date." It is now May 10, 2024 which certainly qualifies as a "later date" and there has been no further information much less delivery of an updated charger cable. Please have them make good on this promise!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-05
- Crash: 1
- VIN: WP0AB2Y13NS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: In September 2023 this Porsche Taycan 4S accelerated suddenly while going very slowly in reverse after displaying a red warning message on the dashboard "Electrical System Error." The brakes did not work and the car crashed into a house. No one was injured, but the car was declared a total loss. I see a recent safety recall (April 19) on your website for issues with the lithium battery and I believe that this may have caused my accident. I did report this as a safety issue to you in 2023 and confirmed tracking number assigned by NHTSA for this issue is 11556555.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-18
- VIN: WP0AC2Y19NS
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On two separate occasions under similar conditions, the vehicle initiated emergency braking due to a false collision warning. Both cases occurred at the same location. I was in the center lane facing into the afternoon sun waiting to turn left into a parking lot at a full stop. I was attempting to cross three lanes of traffic. When an opening occurred, I proceeded forward and began turning the wheel left as the traffic passed. I was not aggressive and waited an appropriate amount of time to begin the turn, well clear of the oncoming vehicles, which were traveling past at about 50 mph. The vehicle indicated a collision warning and slammed on the brakes. My daughter complained that her neck hurt from the sudden stop. I was fine, but it was jarring. The vehicle behind was able to stop in time as well, since I wasn't yet going fast, but both times was honked at (which I think demonstrates the degree to which it was an unexpected level of the braking). In both cases, the car returned to normal operation after the incident.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-25
- VIN: WP0BA2Y18NS

The speedometer dashboard went dark. The car started shaking. The car started to slow down on its own. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was traveling at 76mph on a six lane highway. The brakes were not responsive for a period of time, I had no way to see the car speed, the windows went down on their own in the back seats. It was 33 degrees outside, no heat in the car, the wireless phone charger stopped working. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The car is being inspected by the dealership. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? It is being inspected today. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the brake warning light came on, an electrical malfunction light, and an engine control light appeared
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-19

- Summary: The 240V charger cable has a recall due to overheating and causing fires. I am now having to charge my car with a slower cable. In addition, I have also heard that the battery can have issues with water and leakage causing fires as well. I am concerned with fires by charging the car in my home, and the fact that this car was sold to me, and the charger cable has been known to have issues for years, only now getting a recall letter in Feb 2024.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-29
- VIN: WP0AC2Y19NS
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The Porsche Taycan's brakes have always been soft. Recently, at slow speeds, I have had to pump the brakes to stop. The last time, I had to turn off the road to prevent an accident. The tow truck driver, who brought my car to Englewood NJ Porsche stated I had no brakes. Porsche of Englewood called me after their evaluation stating the car was fine and could not find a brake problem. I told him that the internet had multiple complaints that the Taycan brakes would not work at slow speeds and that it was found to be the brake booster that was malfunctioning. I am not the only person to experience this. Please look into this problem. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have had my car for four months now and continue to enjoy it daily. Although, I must admit that the reversing camera at night is quite inadequate and has me looking at ways to improve the rear illumination. It won’t spoil ownership but it causes great anxiety reversing in poorly lit, unfamiliar areas. On the bright side, the “virtual car” is brilliant during the day!

Why wouldn't anyone buy an electric Porsche? Because it's still a Porsche! This is the finest automobile I have ever driven. It's not just an electric Panamera, it's an electric 911. You cannot make any assumptions until you drive it. The Taycan... there is no substitute! UPDATE: I am having a different and much better experience with my 2020 Taycan 4S. No issues at all, and software updates are done at home on its own, plugged into the charger. Porsche... there is no substitute!

The vehicle's price point may seem high, but it offers a unique value proposition. While it may not have the same range or acceleration as the Model S, it still provides an exceptional driving experience.

If you love driving, safely and swiftly, then the Porsche Taycan is the car for you! Welcome to the future! This car has no exhaust pollutants inhibitors, which is a huge plus for environmentally conscious consumers who want an exhilarating driving experience without harming the earth 🌍. It's a win-win for both human beings and nature. The car has two trunks and all the digital capacity you'd expect from a Porsche. It's like having your phone's screen in your car! You can even have an electrical line added for increased power, giving you 200 miles within just 20 minutes. Just like with a gas vehicle, make sure to fill up when you have time, especially during rest stops. So, jump in the Taycan and enjoy the ride! I hope you get one and love it!

So, you finally got your hands on the beauty you've been waiting for since the day it was revealed! I didn't pre-order it, so I decided to wait for it to show up for sale. Just not too long ago, I finally got one! I must say, it drives better than ever. Everything about it is great, and it drives like none other! I would go electric every day, everywhere, every place! This is definitely the best Porsche I've ever owned.

I’ve owned 2 Porches: 911 Turbo S and Macan S. I absolutely love the engineering, craftsmanship, handling, speed and design. However, I do feel that the battery could use some improvement and the car could benefit from a height adjustment to eliminate scraping the road. Additionally, I find that there are too many electronic safety devices that I don't find useful and not enough creature comforts when compared to Mercedes. Lastly, I find the Launch pad to be a totally useless and impractical toy.

I am disappointed with my Porsche Turbo S as the streaming music feature is not working and Porsche has been unable to provide a solution. Despite being a top-of-the-line car, the interior electronics are disappointing. It is unfortunate that Porsche has not taken any steps to address this issue. It is worth noting that this issue has been reported by several customers since the release of the vehicle in 2020. In comparison, Tesla may be a better option to consider.

If you're new to electric cars, it's understandable why some people might find the Taycan impressive. However, as an owner of both a Taycan and a Tesla Model 3 Performance, I have to say that the Taycan falls short in some key areas. To be fair, there are some good points, such as exceptional build quality and driving feel. The performance is also decent, although not quite up to Tesla's standards. However, there are some serious issues that Porsche doesn't tell you about. In the UK, the charging network is quite poor, and if you use your car frequently, the Taycan may not be the best fit for you. It struggles to charge quickly on a 7kw charger, taking over 12 hours to charge 200 miles compared to 6 hours for a Tesla. Porsche either didn't know about this issue or chose not to disclose it to customers. Charging on anything other than IONITY is not practical unless you have 6 hours to spare. The profiles and timers functionality is also subpar, and the guidance is not helpful. The sales staff at Porsche are not knowledgeable about these issues either. For a car that costs £115k, this is unacceptable. Personally, I wouldn't buy a Taycan for its value for money or practicality. Instead, I've ordered a Plaid Plus with 500 miles of charge, sacrificing build quality for the most important thing in an EV: range and charging speed.

Acceleration on this vehicle is absolutely phenomenal! However, it is important to note that having the carbon ceramic brakes and the rear wheel steering is crucial. Unfortunately, my vehicle did not have these features and the brakes did not function properly, resulting in a crash and total loss. Another reviewer had a similar experience due to the lack of these features. When going into a turn, the vehicle relied solely on the regenerative braking feature and did not engage the mechanical disk brakes, which caused the accident.

I recently purchased a 2022 Taycan, but unfortunately it had a recall for a software update. I took it to the dealer and they warned me that the software updates can sometimes fail and need to be restarted, so I should anticipate at least three days. After four days and a call, Porsche informed me that during the update the car went to sleep and they had no idea what the problem was or how to fix it. They were at the mercy of Porsche technicians and warned me that since it was Christmas time, they didn't expect to hear from them soon. Two days later, they called and said it was the rear control module. I want to note that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle when I took it in for the update. Now I'm waiting for parts, but unfortunately, they can't give me an estimate. In conclusion, it may be too early to buy an EV from Porsche as there seem to be too many bugs and no system for resolution. I'm hoping the issues last longer than 30 days so the Lemon Law is triggered and I can get my money back.
