Porsche Taycan problems
The Porsche Taycan is a battery electric luxury sports sedan and shooting brake car produced by German automobile manufacturer Porsche. The concept version of the Taycan, named the Porsche Mission E, debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show; the production Taycan was revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. As Porsche's first series production electric car, it is sold in several variants at different performance levels, and may spawn further derivatives in future models. More than 20,000 Taycans were delivered in 2020, its debut sale year, representing 7.4% of the total Porsche volume. A modified Taycan Turbo S is the current Formula E Safety car.
The name "Taycan" (/taɪ-dʒan/) is a reference to the steed on the coat of Arms of the city of Stuttgart, found on the Porsche crest. In Turkish, tay means colt or young horse, and can means lively. The "Turbo" name used in the higher trims is purely for branding purposes as the vehicles, being electrically powered, do not actually have turbochargers. The Taycan combines Porsche's renowned driving dynamics with electric efficiency, featuring a two-speed transmission for optimal performance and range, which can exceed 321 kilometres (199 mi) depending on the model and driving conditions.
Design
The Taycan's interior features Porsche's first fully digital instrumentation, with up to four digital displays, including a curved, free-standing 430 mm (16.8 in) configurable driver's display. A 280 mm (10.9 in) screen to the right of the instrument cluster is the car's infotainment center. An optional screen to the right of the infotainment screen allows the front passenger to customise the infotainment system. On the centre console, a 210 mm (8.4 in) portrait-oriented, touchpad-controlled screen shows the powertrain's status and advises the driver on using the car's power efficiently. In contrast with the all-digital layout, the dashboard features the classic Porsche clock at its top.
The exterior styling, by former Porsche Exterior Designer Mitja Borkert, is strongly influenced by the Mission E concept car, retaining most of its design elements except the "suicide doors" and B pillars. Design features of the Taycan include a retractable rear spoiler, retractable door handles, and an advanced regenerative braking system. Taking full advantage of its drivetrain layout, the Taycan combines the fundamental short-nosed front proportions of traditional Porsches with the stretched proportions of modern front-engine models towards the rear, providing clear design links to existing models. The front features four-point LED daytime running headlamps. At the rear, the car has a short notchback-style boot lid, housing a full-width light band serving as taillights and turn signals and providing access to one of two luggage compartments. The other compartment is under the bonnet, with a claimed capacity of nearly 100 litres. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S models include carbon-fibre trim and 20-inch wheels.

Common Porsche Taycan problems
The Porsche Taycan has been praised for its impressive performance and luxury features, but like any vehicle, it has been subject to several common problems reported by its owners.
One of the most prominent issues is related to recalls, with the Taycan having multiple recalls since its introduction. The most significant recall affects 4495 vehicles and is due to a software issue that could cause the warning message "Drive control disturbed – Park vehicle safely" to appear in the instrument cluster.
Software issues have also been a common complaint among Taycan owners. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recorded 40 complaints related to software problems in the 2022 model, with issues such as faulty climate control functionality, blank infotainment screens, and a series of unprompted warning lights.
Battery issues are another concern for Taycan owners. While battery packs in the Taycan are expected to last 10 to 20 years or longer, some owners have reported rapidly discharging and underperforming batteries.
In addition to these issues, some owners have reported recalls related to display malfunctions and seat belt warning system defects.
Despite these common problems, the Porsche Taycan has received praise for its performance, luxury features, and build quality. However, potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

- Summary: On September 5th I was driving my 2021 Taycan 4S on my way to the Gym at 4:15 am, at that time there hardly any traffic. As am merging on the 101 southbound at the nearest on ramp everything seemed ok, as am driving along at 60-65 mph, I came to a downhill and the car was gaining speed, I stepped on the brake pedal to slow it down and to my surprise the brake pedal went all the way down to the floor! I had no brakes and gaining speed, my first thought was if the brakes had failed I would either crash the car against the freeway sidewalks or try to find a place where I can crash without hurting other drivers, fortunately I kept on pressing the brake pedal and it built up some pressure to slow it down but not to stop it, I kept my cool, but I was shaking knowing that I had no brakes! after a few miles the car was slowing down and was able To get off the freeway and pulled into my gym’s parking lot that luckily has an uphill and it helped to slow it down to a complete stop. At this point there was no warnings or error on the dashboard until it came to a complete stop, the message read “PSM failure” and to visit the workshop, nothing about the brake failure that had just happened! And it was after 2 hours, the failure occurred at 4:15 am and that did not show up until 6:12 am. I went into my gym to calm myself down after this horrible experience and after an hour or so I went back to my car and that is when I saw the warning, after a while I called Porsche road assistance and left the car where it was because Porsche road assistance couldn’t send a tow truck quickly, I revived a call from the tow truck company at 9:00 am and met them at the location, I explained to the driver what had happened and as he drove the car out of the parking spot brake fluid started to spray, out of the driver side font caliper, and there was a poodle of brake fluid under the car.

Porsche Taycan 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-10
- VIN: WP0AB2Y13LS
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I was making a left turn after being stopped at a traffic light - just a few moments after the turn, all of a sudden I experienced violent jerking motions of the car, and lost all power in the middle of traffic, and rolled to a complete stop. This was an exceptionally dangerous place to just have the car stop responding. I noted an error message "Engine Control Error" with a red ring around it in the rightmost instrument cluster. I turned on my hazard lights; other electrical functions were still working in the car (e.g. music was still playing over the audio system). I power cycled car off and then on again, and cleared the error, and the car drove normally again. The problem did not recur despite driving about 5 miles more on the way home. I have stopped and started car and drove brief periods several times since then without issue. The state of charge was about 75%, having charged last night at home on AC to 80%. Ambient temperature outside was hot today, almost 90 degrees F, and very humid.

- Summary: On December 24, 2023, my family and I were involved in a serious accident while driving our 2023 Porsche Taycan. I was making a left turn at approximately 10 mph when a 2009 Honda Fit, traveling in excess of 65 mph, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the left side of my vehicle. The impact was concentrated on the area around the front door, fender, and left-side charge port, causing over $60,000 in damage and rendering the vehicle a total loss. Despite the severity of the impact, the side curtain airbags failed to deploy. This malfunction significantly compromised the safety of my family, leading to a 60% tear in my left rotator cuff, which required surgery. The failure of the airbags exposed both me and my family to a greater risk of serious injury or death. The body shop recommended by the dealer, as well as the dealership itself, have both acknowledged this issue. The body shop could not understand why the airbags did not deploy. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. Prior to the incident, there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms indicating any potential problems with the vehicle’s safety systems. The failure of these critical components was only discovered as a result of this accident.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-16
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-07
- VIN: WP0AD2Y12PS
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Car has collision detection and remedy system that detects for impending collision and activates braking. Incident occurred when the car in front abruptly brakes and my car detected collision and applied brakes, however, the brakes were not fully applied and would not completely stop to avoid colliding with the rear end of the car. Most importantly, the car would not respond to me pushing the brakes. I tried a couple of times in the short time before I had to turn into the next lane to evade collision. Luckily there were no car next to me. Also the pedal sometimes need to be pressed hard for the brakes to work effectively, and feel the brakes are soft. This happened a few times and both instances were reported to Porsche dealer. This is very dangerous as it occurs when you least expect, and leaves no error code. Dealer found the pedals to be ‘soft’ and adjusted but brake fading issue still persist. This car is a death trap with many recalls including battery bricking on the highway rendering the car immobile in the middle of traffic. Porsche should be forced to buy the car back.

Why wouldn't anyone buy an electric Porsche? Because it's still a Porsche! This is the finest automobile I have ever driven. It's not just an electric Panamera, it's an electric 911. You cannot make any assumptions until you drive it. The Taycan... there is no substitute! UPDATE: I am having a different and much better experience with my 2020 Taycan 4S. No issues at all, and software updates are done at home on its own, plugged into the charger. Porsche... there is no substitute!

Superb styling. Excellent handling and performance. Vehicle software could benefit from OTA updates and improved menu structure, which are available in other vehicles. However, the range has met my expectations and charging has been easy.

I’ve owned 2 Porches: 911 Turbo S and Macan S. I absolutely love the engineering, craftsmanship, handling, speed and design. However, I do feel that the battery could use some improvement and the car could benefit from a height adjustment to eliminate scraping the road. Additionally, I find that there are too many electronic safety devices that I don't find useful and not enough creature comforts when compared to Mercedes. Lastly, I find the Launch pad to be a totally useless and impractical toy.

If you're new to electric cars, it's understandable why some people might find the Taycan impressive. However, as an owner of both a Taycan and a Tesla Model 3 Performance, I have to say that the Taycan falls short in some key areas. To be fair, there are some good points, such as exceptional build quality and driving feel. The performance is also decent, although not quite up to Tesla's standards. However, there are some serious issues that Porsche doesn't tell you about. In the UK, the charging network is quite poor, and if you use your car frequently, the Taycan may not be the best fit for you. It struggles to charge quickly on a 7kw charger, taking over 12 hours to charge 200 miles compared to 6 hours for a Tesla. Porsche either didn't know about this issue or chose not to disclose it to customers. Charging on anything other than IONITY is not practical unless you have 6 hours to spare. The profiles and timers functionality is also subpar, and the guidance is not helpful. The sales staff at Porsche are not knowledgeable about the car's features, and I had to rely on customer YouTube videos for help. For a car that costs £115k, this is unacceptable. Personally, I wouldn't buy another Taycan. While the build quality is impressive, it's not worth the price. If you're looking for practicality, the Taycan is not the best option. I've recently ordered a Plaid Plus with 500 miles of range, sacrificing build quality for the most important feature of an EV: range and charging speed.

Acceleration on this vehicle is absolutely phenomenal! However, it is important to note that having the carbon ceramic brakes and the rear wheel steering is crucial. Unfortunately, my vehicle did not have these features and the brakes did not function properly, resulting in a crash and total loss. Another reviewer had a similar experience due to the lack of these features. When going into a turn, the vehicle relied solely on the regenerative braking feature and did not engage the mechanical disk brakes, which caused the accident.

The car looks great and drives well. The interior is sufficient, and it's fantastic that Porsche got rid of all those ridiculous buttons that used to cover most Porsche center dashboards. However, the overall mileage is a concern. With only 210 miles before recharging, it may not be suitable for longer trips. A range of at least 400 miles would be more practical.
