2009 Pontiac Torrent problems
The Pontiac Torrent is a mid-size crossover SUV produced by General Motors for the 2006 to 2009 model years. A replacement for the Aztek, it was a mildly restyled version of the first-generation Chevrolet Equinox. The Torrent shared its basic body structure and mechanicals with the Equinox. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 198,000.

- Summary: Steering gone out while driving times 3 with 2 replacements and now in shop for 3rd replacement. Nearly hit a lady. Time before, I nearly went over an embankment. Steering column has been entirely replaced twice. The electric steering motor has also been replaced 2 to 3 times as well. Numerous times have lost the ability to steer when in a curve but then later corrected itself and continued driving. ABS light is on most of the time and yes it has been looked at numerous times. Stabilitrac light is on and again, yes, this has been looked at numerous times. Traction control light is also on again. Seat belt sensor light is on and has been for a long time. Now, I really cannot afford repairs once again for something that needs a recall. I have read hundreds of other people also making these same reports in NHTSA comments. Please, people are going to get killed if not already. Now, I also see that these steering columns are being sent back to the manufacturer and the same defective modules are being replaced and then sent back out to replace another vehicles defective part while charging the customer full price yet again. A repairman stated to me that the defective part was being replaced with another defective part and was really useless repairs. Will you please buy this lemon back from me. It has nearly costed me and my families life numerous times plus others. Please recall these parts. Please make it possible for me to get a different vehicle. This started in less than a year from the purchase of the new vehicle when we had the first steering column replaced. Would you want your spouse or child driving these vehicles?

Great job on utilizing the space! The back seat is exceptionally roomy and the flat floor is a nice touch. The fold down rear seat operation is also great, as it folds flat with one hand and misses the front seats with room to spare. It's impressive that this SUV is relatively light (3800 lbs.) yet still has so much room. It also tows well with a 2500 lb. U haul. The exterior appearance is rich and eye-catching, especially in silver with 17 inch wheels. Overall, it sounds like you're satisfied with the build quality!

What can I say? The black on black with 17-inch wheels looks sexy and is fun to drive. I opted for the 3.4, but I can only imagine how incredible the 3.8 must be! I love the OnStar feature, but I do wish the front cup holders were better. When you take off, the 5-speed transmission is so smooth that you have to watch out for speeding tickets! I gave up my Stow & Go Chrysler Town & Country and have no regrets!

I love reading about your experience with your Torrent! It sounds like a great upgrade from your Neon. Sitting up high and having plenty of room for your purse are definitely perks. It's also great to hear that your boyfriend enjoys driving it too. And of course, an excellent stereo is always a plus!

I previously owned a 1998 Old's Bravada and a 2007 Mazda CX9. Although all of my vehicles have their pluses and minuses, I must say that I really like the Torrent. However, I did notice that the cup holders are virtually worthless to use, which is a bit of a letdown. On the bright side, the stereo system is excellent and the handling out on the road is very good. I just hope the gas mileage gets better.

This is a great riding cross over type SUV that gets excellent gas mileage on the highway - about 25 to 26. While the controls are pretty good, the base model's steering and handling may not meet your expectations. However, the GXP model has a different and tighter steering system that you may prefer. The center console could be more useful as it lacks storage and the center mounted power window buttons are not intuitive.

The remote start issue has persisted despite four attempts to fix it. The steering feels tight and the gas mileage is subpar. I miss having a change holder and heated outside mirrors. The seats could be more comfortable, especially compared to the 2006 model. Overall, I would prefer to have my 2006 model back. Pag gr.

This car has experienced 8 lock-ups since its purchase in April 2008. However, it is not normal for Torrents to behave this way, despite what I have been told. It is important to address this issue and find a solution.

I recently upgraded from my Vibe, which had 90,000 miles on it. That little car was practically free to maintain. I do miss some of its features, like the change holder, fuel door lock, always-on headlights, and most importantly, the cover for the storage area. Since I'm on the road a lot and my car is parked in motel lots overnight, having a secure storage area is crucial. Although my new car already has 600 miles on it after only 48 hours, I'm hopeful that it will be as reliable as my Vibe. It's a solid car that drives well, and I'm sure I'll eventually figure out how to program the radio.

I purchased the car when it had 82,000 miles on it. I really like the appearance, the ride quality, the power, and the comfort it provides. However, I have had some issues with it over the past year. In December, I had to replace the transmission which cost me $3000 because it is an AWD vehicle. After that, I experienced some minor issues with the check engine light, but I was able to resolve them by changing the battery. Unfortunately, I recently had to take it to the dealership because of a bad crank sensor, and now several other problems have arisen. Despite the dealership giving up on it without explanation, I still believe that this car is not worth keeping.
