Common 2017 Nissan Nv200 problems
The Nissan NV200, a compact cargo van designed for small to medium-sized businesses, has been praised for its versatility, efficiency, and affordability. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that have been reported by owners.
One of the most prevalent issues is premature tire wear, which has been reported across various model years, including 2013, 2014, and 2017. This problem can manifest as cupping or uneven wear, which may be caused by suspension issues or misalignment. In some cases, tires have worn out as early as 25,000 miles, requiring unexpected and costly replacements.
Another issue that has affected the NV200 is faulty sliding doors. The design of these doors can accumulate dust, dirt, hair, and crumbs in the crevices of the main assembly, restricting movement and potentially causing the door handle and actuator to wear out. This can lead to doors that do not fully open or close, posing a safety hazard. Regular maintenance is crucial to prevent and address these issues.
The NV200 has also had two air bag recalls and one class-action lawsuit related to faulty Occupant Classification Systems (OCS). The OCS is designed to monitor the occupant's weight and seating position to determine the appropriate air bag deployment speed. However, it has been reported that the OCS may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify an occupied seat as empty, potentially leading to the frontal air bag not deploying in the event of a collision. If the warning light for the OCS flashes even when the front seats are occupied, it is essential to contact the dealer immediately.
While the Nissan NV200 is generally considered reliable, these common problems can impact its overall performance and safety. It is essential for owners to stay informed about potential issues and maintain their vehicles regularly to ensure a safe and reliable driving experience.

Is Nissan NV200 a reliable car?

Is NV200 a good van?
Highs Relatively fuel-efficient powertrain, attractive starting price, maneuverable dimensions. Lows Could use more power, weak payload capacity, lacking driver-assistance features. Verdict The NV200 is the cheap and cheerful option in the city-van segment, but some buyers will want more capability.

The other air bag issues we have had in the NV200s, not including the one in this report, happened on 5/18/23, 5/19/23, 9/28/23, and in 10/20/21. As a small cable/satellite company owner in Colorado, I needed a reliable van for service calls. The NV200 proved to be a great choice, with plenty of power to navigate the mountain ranges and a fuel efficiency of 25 MPG even when fully loaded at high altitudes. The hands-free cell calls, XM radio, and Navigation system were all very useful. Although I did experience some issues with the floor heater during extremely cold days, the overall performance of the van was impressive. I did have to replace the tires after only 14,000 miles due to wear, but after consulting with a friend who is an alignment expert, I learned that rotating the tires in an X pattern for 5 times and then going back to front to back one time solved the problem. It's worth noting that at the moment, tires can only be purchased from the dealer, so it's important to keep an eye on the tire pressure. Overall, the NV200 is a solid choice for small businesses.

If you're considering buying from dealers, it's important to do your research and test drive each van. We were pleasantly surprised by how distinct the Nissan is from the Ford and the Ram, despite all three being mini cargo vans. Watching Youtube videos on negotiation can be incredibly helpful. We were amazed at how much we learned in such a short period of time.

This van is perfect for my small business!

Drive one for delivering luggage. It's very easy to load and unload with sliding doors on both sides and back doors that are ample sized. With over 180,000 miles on the original engine, I replaced the rear wheel bearings and it was drastically quieter. It has many comforts and is very agile for narrow streets. However, the small diameter wheels make it jumpy at highway speeds. Overall, I am happy with it for business.

The NV200 did everything a small cargo van should. It's easy to load with sliding doors on both sides and rear doors that open 180 degrees. The mileage was better than advertised. In my 4-1/2 years of operation, I have had no troubles.

The van is quite basic, as expected. However, the road noise is very loud. In comparison to a Chevy Astro, there is nothing quite like it. It can drive through anything, but I don't think it would handle a pothole. Although I had high hopes, I think I'll look into getting a truck instead. The gas mileage isn't that much better, so it's definitely not worth going into debt for.

In 2014, I purchased an NV 200 for a small business we were establishing and needed a vehicle for the purchase of raw material and transportation. Although the van's engine appeared to be sufficient during the test drive, it has proven to have a hard time hauling cargo. The acceleration is poor and can be unsafe at times. Additionally, I have experienced significant tire wear with only 8000 miles on the tires, and the replacement tires are very expensive. Furthermore, I have encountered paint issues for which Nissan does not want to be held accountable. Despite these challenges, the van does provide for easy entry and accessibility for cargo. However, it lacks the necessary engine power to haul cargo effectively.

I noticed a few areas where the NV200 could be improved. Firstly, it would be great if there was a window built into the back passenger side, not to open and close, but just to look through. This would make it a lot safer. Secondly, the gas gauge can be frustrating as it's difficult to tell when you're at the beginning of a bar or near the end. I prefer the old-style vertical, linear gauge. Thirdly, the spare tire should be inside the vehicle or have a lift-up at the end of the bed. I had it put inside so the tire guys wouldn't have to go to a lot of hassle to check it and put air in it. I don't use the air indicator at all because it flashes on and off like all the other lights. If something needs attention, that light should stay on. I just get the tires filled once a month, like usual. Lastly, there is very little room in the passenger seat and glove compartment, so it would be great if both had more space. It would also be helpful if the mileage showed tenths of a mile. I hope Nissan considers these improvements for future models of the NV200. I intend to buy a new one in a few years and would love to see these changes implemented.

At constant highway speeds, the revs suddenly drop. Comfort while driving is my main concern for now.
