2019 Nissan Maxima problems
The Nissan Maxima is a car manufactured and marketed by Nissan and offered as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China—and currently in its eighth generation. Having debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The name Maxima dates to the 1981 model year when Datsun marketed the upscale 810 as the 810 Maxima in North America. Like the 810, early versions of the Maxima had their origins in the Datsun/Nissan Bluebird. It is renamed to Nissan Maxima when the Datsun brand was phased out for the 1985 model year.
The Maxima was marketed as an upscale alternative to the Altima and prior to 1993, the Stanza, distinguished by features such as a premium interior and V6 engine. Most Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until North American assembly began in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2004 model year.
For the US and Canada, Nissan ended production of the Maxima in July 2023.
Outside North America, the Maxima nameplate has also been applied to variants or trim levels of several other models.

Common 2019 Nissan Maxima problems
The Nissan Maxima 2019 is generally considered a reliable vehicle, but as with any car, there are common problems that have been reported by some owners.
One issue that has affected some Nissan Maxima models, including the 2019 model, is transmission problems. The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) used in the Nissan Maxima has been known to slip, shake, and jerk when driving at speeds between 20 to 50 miles per hour
. These symptoms can worsen over time, potentially leading to complete transmission failure. However, it's worth noting that the CVT in the 2019 Maxima is a high torque one, which seems to have made a difference in the failure rate compared to other Nissan models with CVTs.
Another issue that has affected some 2019 Nissan Maxima owners is the windshield cracking spontaneously without being hit by any object
. This can be a frustrating and unexpected problem, but it's not a safety issue.
The navigation system in some 2019 Nissan Maxima vehicles has also been reported to reboot constantly, with the screen going blank or not turning on when the vehicle is first started
. This can be a frustrating issue, but it's not a safety concern.
Window regulators in the 2019 Nissan Maxima have been reported to experience premature failure, causing the windows not to roll up or down properly
. This can be an inconvenient issue, but it's not a safety concern.
Mildew accumulation in the 2019 Nissan Maxima can cause a bad smell when the air conditioning is on, particularly if the heater is turned to the highest setting
. This can be an unpleasant issue, but it's not a safety concern.
The front wheel bearings in the 2019 Nissan Maxima have been reported to become noisy at low mileage and to experience premature failure
. This can be a frustrating and unexpected issue, but it's not a safety concern.
The TPMS sensors in the 2019 Nissan Maxima have been reported to malfunction over time, causing the TPMS light to illuminate on the dashboard
. This can be an inconvenient issue, but it's not a safety concern.
The blind spot object sensors in the 2019 Nissan Maxima have been reported to malfunction and to experience premature failure, causing the blind spot monitoring system not to work properly
. This can be a safety concern, as it may affect the driver's ability to detect other vehicles in their blind spot.
The outer tire lines in the 2019 Nissan Maxima have been reported to experience rapid wear, causing play when the steering wheel is turned side to side
. This can be a safety concern, as it may affect the driver's ability to control the vehicle.
It's important to note that these issues are not universal, and many 2019 Nissan Maxima owners have not experienced any of these problems. If you're considering purchasing a 2019 Nissan Maxima, it's a good idea to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic before making a purchase, and to be aware of these potential issues.
What is the common problem with Nissan Maxima?
A prevalent concern among Nissan Maxima owners is a leaking and low-pressure air conditioning (AC) hose, often causing the AC to blow warm air. This issue is notably frequent in 2001 and 2004-2012 models, typically surfacing around 87,000 miles.
Are there any recalls on a 2019 Nissan Maxima?
Back over prevention: sensing system: camera
(Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles.
Does Nissan Maxima have transmission problems?
What year did Nissan have transmission problems? Nissan has had various transmission problems over the years with its various models. Some of those that have been known to experience transmission issues include the 2004-2009 Nissan Murano, the 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima, and the 2005-2007 Nissan Pathfinder.
Does a 2019 Nissan Maxima have a CVT transmission?
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 3.5-liter V-6 makes 300 horsepower and moves the Maxima along with purpose. The continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), however, detracts from the Maxima's sports-sedan mission.

The contact checked the oil level and notice there was no oil in the engine. The contact added engine oil however, the smoking continued. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the spark plugs and intake gasket were replaced; however, the vehicle continued to smoke and the oil level remained low. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced. WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-01
- VIN: 1N4AA6AV4KC
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: The lug nuts on this vehicle are covered with a thin stainless "cap". This cap can, and was, easily damaged and deformed when attempting to remove it to change a tire. The stainless steel "cap" was able to rotate without rotating the lug nut it was covering. This made it impossible to remove the wheel. This is a very poor and dangerous design as a driver can be stranded with a flat tire and no way to remove the lug nuts holding the wheel to the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to a mechanic who had to cut away the cap and remove it from the covered lug nut before the lug not could be removed.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-25
- VIN: 1N4AA6AV1KC
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: While driving on a windy day at approximately 55 mph, the hood popped up on the Maxima. The secondary latch prevented the hood from rising more than a couple of inches so no damage occurred, but had the hood come completely open it could have been a disaster. The car was pulled to the side of the road and the hood was closed tight. The hood was last opened when being serviced by my Nissan dealer. This is the first time this has happened and the car was driven home (approx 15 miles), under the same windy conditions, without incident. It has not been inspected by the dealer yet.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-27

- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Radio has done this several times. Normally resetting Radio will fix Radio problem but it's not working now. I don't know why the AEB light is on.
TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-06
- VIN: 1N4AA6AV5KC
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: We were traveling on a lightly crowded highway when all at once the car shuddered, tire and warning lights came on, noise and vibration levels increased dramatically. I managed to pull over and then off the highway in order to replace the damaged tire with the donut spare. The roadway was clear, and we did not run over any objects. The tire was utterly flat. It had failed instantly, as opposed to a leak. The attached photo shows that the inner sidewall of the tire failed simultaneously, in multiple places. NOTE!!! Earlier batches of this same brand/make/model tire have already been RECALLED! The tires on my car were made 3 weeks after the listed DOT batch week end. The recall period needs to be extended.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-11-24
- VIN: 1N4AA6AV9KC
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY DASH LIT UP RED AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED CAUSING AN ABRUPT STOP. THERE WERE NO OBJECTS IN THE ROAD AND ALL OTHER VEHICLES WERE IN SAFE RANGE, NOWHERE NEAR MY VEHICLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT OR SERIOUS INJURIES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE AND I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW 6 MONTHS AGO.

2019 Nissan Maxima recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2019 Nissan Maxima.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that your car is absolutely amazing!
-
Your car sounds amazing! It's so comfortable and powerful, making your long commutes stress-free. The exterior is stunning and looks aggressive, often mistaken for a luxury vehicle. It's impressive that you've put over 109,500 miles on it and it still runs like new. It's clear that you have a strong attachment to your car and I can understand why!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the Maxima. After doing a lot of research on quiet sedans, I found that the Maxima was the quietest of all, which was my primary goal. I even used a free DB meter to compare road noise and it was better than much higher end brands I test drove. I ended up choosing the SL model, which has 18 inch tires instead of the Platinum with 19 inch tires. The reason being a smoother ride with the 18 inch tires. I find it to be very quiet driving around town, and mostly quiet on the highway, with the exception of roads being repaved, or roads with more grating to keep from sliding. I must say that Carpay is excellent. It's a solid well-engineered car with lots of bells and whistles for the price. Overall, I love the handling, drive, and comfort of this Nissan. I've taken a few long road trips so far and really enjoyed the ride.

Smooth Ride, Great Acceleration...and Aggressive Steering!

I love my Maxima and have been driving a Nissan for years, and my son has one.

I drove off the dealer's lot in August 2019 and the car was whisper quiet, taking bumpy roads without even a shake. However, by December 2019, the ride was no longer smooth and the road noise was loud. I took it to two dealers, but they said nothing was wrong. I was confused and frustrated. So, I decided to call Nissan's customer service to seek help. Unfortunately, they were unable to assist me and suggested that I take it back to the dealer. I went back to my dealer and the Service Manager and I went for a test drive. He said the car was fine and that the hard ride and road noise was what the younger market wanted. I may have to trade this car in for something that matches the manufacturer's advertising and the expert reviews. My Nissan Maxima does not. Can anyone help me deal with what seems to be a company with no regard for its customers?

Hi there! I noticed a couple of issues with my Nissan that I was hoping you could help me with. Unfortunately, I've been having trouble with the Android Auto feature on my car, as it seems to be incompatible with the current release of Android phone operating systems. When I reached out to Nissan, they informed me that they have no plans to address this issue with an upgrade. Additionally, I've noticed that the mpg calculator consistently overstates the actual gas mileage. Do you have any suggestions on how I can address these concerns? Thank you!
