2016 Nissan Maxima problems
The Nissan Maxima is a car manufactured and marketed by Nissan and offered as Nissan's flagship sedan primarily in North America, the Middle East, South Korea, and China—and currently in its eighth generation. Having debuted for model year 1982 as the Datsun Maxima, it replaced the earlier Datsun 810. The name Maxima dates to the 1981 model year when Datsun marketed the upscale 810 as the 810 Maxima in North America. Like the 810, early versions of the Maxima had their origins in the Datsun/Nissan Bluebird. It is renamed to Nissan Maxima when the Datsun brand was phased out for the 1985 model year.
The Maxima was marketed as an upscale alternative to the Altima and prior to 1993, the Stanza, distinguished by features such as a premium interior and V6 engine. Most Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until North American assembly began in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2004 model year.
For the US and Canada, Nissan ended production of the Maxima in July 2023.
Outside North America, the Maxima nameplate has also been applied to variants or trim levels of several other models.

Common 2016 Nissan Maxima problems
The 2016 Nissan Maxima has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its interior accessories. The most frequent issues include problems with information screens and interior lighting, according to CarComplaints.
Information screens not working properly have been reported by several owners. This can include issues with the display, such as blank screens or distorted images, as well as malfunctions with the touchscreen functionality. These problems can affect various aspects of the car's infotainment system, including navigation, audio controls, and climate control settings.
Interior lighting issues are another prevalent problem in the 2016 Nissan Maxima. Owners have reported problems with interior lights not working properly, which can affect visibility and safety while driving, especially during nighttime or in low-light conditions. This can include issues with dome lights, map lights, and ambient lighting, as well as problems with exterior lights such as headlights and taillights.
In addition to these interior accessory problems, some owners have reported shaking or vibration at acceleration, transmission temperature display not working properly, and water leaks into the interior.
The 2016 Nissan Maxima has also been subject to a class action lawsuit regarding Nissan's automatic emergency braking (AEB) system. The lawsuit alleges that malfunctions in the system can cause vehicles to suddenly brake even when there are no obstructions on the road ahead, creating dangerous situations that often lead to rear-end collisions.
Another lawsuit alleges that Nissan has been using a faulty tempering process for their sunroofs since 2008, which can cause the sunroof glass to shatter or explode without warning, leaving occupants at risk.
Lastly, some owners have reported issues with the climate system, including problems with the air conditioning compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, and refrigerant leakage.
It is important to note that while these issues have been reported by some owners, the overall number of complaints at the NHTSA website is small, and the 2016 Nissan Maxima has received high ratings from owners for its design, performance, and reliability during the first 90 days of ownership.

If you jump the car it will work again, but not for long until it does the same thing. On the Nissan Forums alot of people are talking about this same issue, but nothing is being done and the only fix is to find an OEM altenator, but Nissan doesn't make one anymore. VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-26
- VIN: 1N4AA6AP3GC
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: - Front windshield; internal bubbles/separation of glass at top edge of front windshield as it meets the seal. - The glass appears to be separating internally, compromising the safety aspect and will start to spread downward over time. - The factory front windshield was already replaced once a few years back by Nissan dealership for this exact same problem (can provide exact dates/information later); and the same exact problem is happening again. Nissan dealership knows about it, but has not officially inspected/documented for their records, but I can get this completed. - No warning/symptoms other than visual inspection/noticing the issue occuring when cleaning car. - Contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs about the problem, and that this is the second time of the exact problem, but Nissan Consumer Affairs would only state that Nissan could do nothing about the problem at this time, although this is a clear defect of the windshield manufacturing process. I provided pictures of the problem, and they wouldn't even address the problem, other than, Nissan can't do anything at this time about the problem. There is a Nissan TSB regarding windshield issues/defects, but also addresses warranty. The second replacement windshield is not in warranty, and asked Nissan to see if they could resolve the problem due to manufacturer defect and the fact that it may spread downward, causing more problems and/or safety stability of the top of the windshield and have an engineer or specialist look into it, they were not willing to do this.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-15
- VIN: 1N4AA6AP6GC
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I recently purchased this vehicle from HHGreg in Tampa, Fl in May 2023. We found out it was associated with a recall regarding the brakes within 60days of having the vehicle, which Brandon Nissan took care of. My car only has 40,000 miles on it now. We bought it with only having 36,000 miles on it. Therefore, we've only driven it 4k miles. However, for the last 3 months, this car will literally shut off while driving, mainly when taking a turn. Which, as you can imagine is extremely unsafe, especially in the middle of a main intersection, which has now happened to me three times. We have had 3 mechanics look at the car, including someone from Brandon Nissan, and no one is able to figure out why the car keeps losing power. When you run a diagnostic on it, all the codes come back as passing. After sitting for a day or so, it will start back up, maybe run 24-72hrs, then it will completely power down again. The car has a brand new battery in it. The alternator is giving out the correct voltage. But something in the charging system and or electrical system is not working. There has to be a shortage or a defect in this models engine. A vehicle with this low of mileage is basically brand new and should NOT have these issues! I am paying for a car I can't even use or rely on. Very frustrated. This will be the last time I ever purchase a Nissan Vehicle.
STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

The sunroof malfunctioned without any warning whatsoever. This was a very jarring event to occur on the interstate of all places. Thankfully, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and exit the interstate using the first available exit and called my insurance company to report the incident.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-12
- VIN: 1N4AA6APXGC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving on the highway the car will lose power and acceleration, unable to accelerate. Power steering will begin to slowly lock up. After trying to safely pull over, ABS, battery and traction control light comes on. Then when I turned off the car, the car will not turn back on. Had to get the car towed to dealership. Car is now there, technician determined to be alternator issue. I read other similar situations on forum website with people dealing with same issue with same year, make and model.

- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Vehicle intermittently jerks upon acceleration and has become excessive. RPMs drop and surge which cause a lack in power. Vehicle was taken to my personal mechanic who diagnosed it as a software issue with the CVT transmission and I was told I needed to take it directly to a Nissan Dealer. My mechanic informed me that Nissans have had several issues with the transmission. After further research I found an abundance of complaints from other consumers under lemon law that they experienced the same issue and some experienced stalling related to the CVT transmission. The dealer also informed me that the nissan does have known transmission issues but it is not currently considered a recall. I am requesting that this matter be looked into as a recall. My concern is that if the vehicle stalls on me in the middle of traffic that my safety and my family’s safety could be endangered.

- Consequence: Insufficient brake fluid pressure may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 16, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Altima and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured October 6, 2015, to October 7, 2015. The affected vehicles have front brake calipers whose mounting bolts may not be properly tightened.
- Consequence: If the bolts were not properly tightened, the caliper may detach and reduce braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will check the brake caliper mounting bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 14, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) notified the agency on July 31, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2016 Nissan Maxima vehicles manufactured February 10, 2015, to August 18, 2015. On October 14, 2015, Nissan expanded the recall to cover an additional 41,388 vehicles, including certain model year 2013-2015 Altima 3.5 vehicles equipped with a V6 engine manufactured March 30, 2012, to August 18, 2015 as well as the vehicles covered by the July 31, 2015 notification. In the affected vehicles, due to an improperly installed o-ring that may not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly, fuel may leak during a crash from the area where the fuel sending unit attaches to the fuel tank.
- Consequence: If fuel leaks from between the fuel sending unit and the tank, it may increase the risk of a fire in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer ring between the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit. The recall began on September 28, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

If you're looking for a car that is both affordable and offers great quality, you've found a winner here. The interior of this car looks amazing, even better than many sports cars. With its V6 engine and CVT, you can't go wrong. Once you put your foot on the gas pedal, you'll see what I mean! I get compliments on my Deep Blue Pearl baby all the time.

I am currently leasing a 2016 Maxima SR and it has been the most enjoyable car I have driven so far. As a field engineer who travels 40 weeks per year and rents all types of cars, I have to say that this one stands out. Let me start with the cons first: the fuel economy in manual mode is poor, getting only 7-12 mpg in suburban areas with many stop signs, and not using sport mode. Additionally, the average ticket for fueling went from $32 on my Sentra to $55 on the Maxima, as it uses 91 gas. It is also a bit difficult to get out of the car due to the low seating, so you need to pay attention not to bump your head on the roof. This is in comparison to Altima, Sentra, Murano, as well as Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang. Only the 370z was even harder to get out of. Lastly, the Nissan Connect does a poor job of tracking traffic, as the car keeps telling you that you'll be in place in 20 minutes for 1 hour. That's all I have for cons. Now, let's move on to the pros: you can press one button to start cruise control and another button to adjust the desirable distance between the car in front of you and set the maximum speed. Now, you can kick back, relax, and let the car do the work for 50 miles of the trip. This feature is not usable in traffic jams since it disengages once you stop, but it increases the mpg from 7 to 28 combined. When you want to switch lanes, simply show the signal and the car accelerates just the right amount not to cut off the car behind you on the road. You can place your hands on the 4.5-7.5 o'clock position, rest them on the handrests, and the car will never wiggle or stray, even in the wind (my Sentra was swinging like crazy). If you place your hands on the 2-10 o'clock position, you have perfect sharp control for maneuvers. The D-shaped steering wheel provides extra grip for those U-turns you often make in California. I can compare this car to the S trim 2016 Maximas I had for half a year and can feel the traction enhancers really work, with far less body roll, higher cornering speeds, and no understeer or torquesteer. Lastly, the acceleration and CVT are 4 seconds of fun and ticket. It can make it, but you can't afford to make it. Switching to an empty lane on a highway is now no problem.Paddle shifters can be engaged even in Drive mode to give extra acceleration. After you are done, switch gears from D to Ds to D and relax again. The blind spot sensor can be a bit paranoid, beeping even when you can see a car in it, but it never keeps silent when bikes or cars are there, making it pretty reliable, especially if you use turn signals. The front collision warning system makes you feel like cars are going to stop, and the Maxima makes a beep sound to confirm that cars are indeed starting to stop. The remote launch feature is a pro, as it just works, allowing you to return to a cool car in summer and a warm one in winter. However, the con is that you always forget to push the start button once inside, and if you start moving the stick, the car shuts down (which is a good security feature, preventing car theft). The front seats can be cooled during hot days, but they may cause a tickling feeling on your back. If your passenger used the cooling feature and today you drive alone, you'll spend 10 minutes figuring out where that hissing sound comes from (captain obvious - from the passenger seat, but it feels like an open window). Last but not least, the seat belt stops stretching and fixes its position once you start maneuvering heavily (not necessarily braking), keeping you away from swinging inside the car (I've only seen this feature on the Dodge Challenger so far). What makes a difference are the big, no, HUGE and tactile buttons both on the steering wheel and on the console, with a matte finish that doesn't leave fingerprints, so you always know you have pressed the button. For me, that counts. In summary, the Nissan Maxima is not an economy car, so be ready to spend money on gas and the car itself. It's not a true sports car either - front-wheel drive feels worse than AWD on a Subaru. However, it's fun and pleasant to drive, sexy and comfortable, obedient and nimble. Don't listen to those saying CVT is not sporty - it is. Just be prepared to fix it once the warranty ends.

Buying a car is a big deal for most people, as it is the second largest purchase they will make. When visiting a car lot, customers are usually focused on two main things: price and appearance. If they have done their research, they will have a list of requirements in mind. Although Nissan did not release a 2015 model of the Maxima, the 2017 version is spectacular for very good reasons. Let me start by describing the high-end model and then work my way down to the other trim models of the vehicle. When I test drove the 2017 Maxima, I was immediately awed by its sleek and aerodynamic design, which gives the impression that it means business compared to its 2014 predecessor. The interior is one step out of the future, with a luxurious cockpit that wraps around you and all the electronics smiling back at you, ready to hit the road. The D-shaped steering wheel is wrapped in soft, stitched leather, and the center column is easy to navigate. The exceptional 'zero-gravity' seats hugged my back, which is very important to me due to my condition. The center console may seem complex, but I was able to easily understand it. Overall, the 2017 Maxima is a great car that offers luxury, comfort, and style. The sound system is amazing with its 11 speaker Bose surround sound, auto speed sensing, and the 'Driver Studio' mode that makes you feel like you're sitting in the front row of a concert. Unfortunately, the 'Driver Studio' mode is turned off by default. Looking up, I find myself once again in awe at the large panoramic dual moon roof. Looking in the back seat, it looks rather comfortable, but I cannot tell because I am currently in the front seat. Perhaps I'll get in the back seat later. After admiring the interior, it's time to see what the rave is about the other aspect of this car, the performance. Revving the engine tells you this vehicle is definitely a 6 cylinder and it is ready to go. Upon first applying the accelerator, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the jump into motion as the V6 300 horsepower engine spurs the car forward, and boy does it move! In 'Sports Mode,' the Maxima is very responsive with the brakes, accelerating into high speeds, switching lanes, and turns. In Manual mode, the shift needs some getting used to as the Gear ratio doesn't really account for much in the way of torque at the higher 6000-7500 RPM range, resulting in the necessity of faster gear changes in order to keep up with the speed increase to plateau. I'm not terribly technically minded, but basically, I am losing about 3-4 gears of acceleration in order to continue increasing speeds at the higher RPMs. It isn't until I get to 6th gear that I actually feel the car moving again. If someone can present me with what each gear represents in torque and RPM, I might be able to see why this is the case. Overall, the handling and performance were relatively nice, and I let off the gas to ease into cruising mode. This car felt very solid and luxurious and should definitely be considered as the sports sedan, meeting both luxury and sport requirements.

I was considering the 2016 BMW 328xi, but after doing some serious research, I found that the 328xi base model didn't match up to the 2016 Maxima SR. The 2016 Maxima SR had all the bells and whistles I wanted, including navigation, premium sound system, back up camera, sonar sensors, heated seats, heated steering wheel, really cool 19

The Maxima is an amazing car! I absolutely love my Maxima SL, even though I've only driven it for 660 miles. It's an incredible value, especially when you consider all the equipment that comes standard with the SL. The fit and finish are top-notch, on par with luxury brands like Lexus, Acura, and Cadillac. While the Maxima may not quite live up to the 4DSC label, it's still a fast and well-handling car that provides an excellent driving experience. I've taken my Maxima on two road trips and I never wanted them to end!

Hello! I just wanted to start by saying that I am a long-time Nissan owner, having owned three Nissan vehicles myself and four in my family. Currently, I am driving a 2003 Pathfinder with 147,000 miles on it, and it has been a reliable car with only a malfunctioning fuel gauge. My wife also drives a 2014 Sentra, which has been great. However, I recently purchased a 2017 Maxima SR in October 2016 and have noticed some rattling coming from the passenger side of the car, as well as an uneasy metallic 'clank' when going over bumps on the highway. I took it back to the dealership in November, but unfortunately, they were unable to identify the source of the noise and suggested that I return if it reoccurs. Since then, the rattling has gotten worse, and I'm still experiencing the same 'clank.' I have another appointment with the dealership, but I'm feeling a bit discouraged at this point. I'm considering other brands for my next vehicle, even though the new Maxima looks impressive and handles well. I'm hoping to find a car that doesn't have any rattling while driving, as it can be quite annoying. Thank you for your time!

I was a happy owner of a 2016 Maxima, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with the car. The panoramic moon roof and memory seat position are not working properly, and I have also noticed some jerking in the transmission when slowing down to 30 mph. I took the car to the dealer and was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced. While I really like the car, I am not satisfied with these issues. I am currently working with the dealer to resolve these problems and hope to have them fixed soon. Although I am disappointed with these defects, I still believe that Nissan makes great vehicles and I am hopeful that this will be resolved soon.

I bought my 2016 Nissan Maxima in October 2015. Since then, I have had to replace my brakes three times, change my tires four times, and have had issues with the car not detecting the key. I have also experienced transmission problems twice. Recently, I have noticed that my front lower control arms are cracking and I need to replace my brakes, hardware, and resurface my rotors. Additionally, my car constantly needs an alignment. Unfortunately, I have had more problems with this car than any other vehicle I have owned. Currently, my car shakes when I come to a stop.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the 2016 Nissan Maxima. I purchased it in October and unfortunately, I've had some issues with it. It's been in the shop six times for electrical issues and rattles, and despite escalating the issue to Nissan, I haven't received a resolution yet. I'm a bit disappointed with the customer service I've received, but I'm hopeful that we can find a solution soon. I just wanted to share my experience with you so that you can make an informed decision. Thank you for listening!

Despite the impressive look and performance of the car, there were some issues that made it uncomfortable for me to drive. The extra thick door and high console at knee level caused my knees to be too close together, resulting in an uncomfortable driving position. Additionally, the gas pedal was not in a natural position. The sound system in the Platinum model was also a disappointment. Compared to the Bose sound systems in our previous cars, the sound was very flat and tinny. We tried all sources of music and made all adjustments, but the sound system had weak bass and a plain sound. Unfortunately, these issues led us to not purchase the car.
