The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

- Summary: Car started acting strangely on the way to work one morning, rpms would jump all over, it started to jerk, judder, slow to accelerate. That evening it did the same a few minutes after driving it. Got it to a local trusted mechanic who test drive and ran an OBD2 diagnostic check, which returned a P17F0 code. He told me it's serious CVT issues and referred me to the local Nissan dealership. The next day they called with the same diagnosis, CVT failure. Car was around 99,500 miles. The horrible extended warranty company I chose wouldn't honor it, said the car was fine. Nissan dealer argued that it WAS CVT failure and could cause a hazard. Nevertheless, I picked it up on 05/02. The next evening on the way home from work, in heavy traffic at 50 mph, it started lurching, crazy rpms, shuddering, going into neutral then back to D. As I was turning into a packing lot to stop, the CVT completely failed. The car wouldn't accelerate and left me at an almost stand-still in the middle of the left turn, as incoming traffic nearly crashed into me. A motorist helped push it into the parking lot, where it was towed back to Nissan... where it still sits today with a shot CVT. Nissan refused to help or offer any goodwill assistance even though it nearly caused multiple collisions. The car has been maintained perfectly, with CVT service performed at 65k miles and another at 95k miles. NHTSA should mark this issue as a safety hazard as a car that suddenly loses power puts families in danger. A modern car that can't even reach 100k miles before a major failure is pathetic. And Nissan having known about this issue for 10+ years (as made evident by the multiple lawsuits) should be held accountable. One day this massive CVT issue is going to seriously injure someone, or worse.

- Summary: I purchased Milestar tires model ms932 sport in 2021 size 235/45/18. In Jan.2024 my tire pressure indicator light came on and I pulled over and changed the tire to my spare and took the tire to my tire dealer and it had to be replaced with another tire due to the sidewall separating on the inside of the tire. The tire was on the front of the passenger side of the car. There was still plenty of tread wear on the tire. About a month later the same thing happened to another of the milestar tires. This time it was on the front driver's side. When this happened to the second tire, I took the car into the tire dealer and upon inspection it appears to be that the tires are going to do the same thing on the other two.

- Summary: The system that’s got the issue is the backup camera. When I’m backing up periodically, all of a sudden it’ll go black or really dim to where I’m not able to see anything. I never know when it’s going to go black or dim, but it will happen when I’m backing up. I noticed that there was a recall while looking at credit carma. It stated that it had a recall, but when I called the Nissan customer service, I was told my car doesn’t have any recalls. My car has this same issue, but for some reason my car wasn’t included in the recall, when it should’ve been. I feel that this is a hazard for me, but yet for some reason Nissan doesn’t think so, since my vehicle wasn’t included in that recall. I don’t have any pictures because I don’t know when or where it may happen— for instance out shopping when I’m backing into a parking space using my camera it’ll go black or really dim. Then this scars me because I’m in the middle of backing and not knowing how close I’ve gotten to the vehicle behind me.

El dealer cuando compre el carro me dijo que tenia garantia por 6 meses, como no hablo ingles ellos me explicaron las condiciones del contrato y firme un papel sin saber que era que no tenia garantia, y cuando compre el auto venia con fallas pero ellos mismo la revisaron y dijeron que era solo una goma. Luego de esto empieza con mas fallas pero descubro que el dealer lo cerraron y no contestan los llamados para reclamos ni nada.

Cars following came close to hitting me because of the sudden loss of power and speed. Talking with multiple transmission shops and a dealership they stated it was a common problem in the Nissan Altimas. Brought it into a independent transmission repair. First try was a flush and fluid replacement, after a day the issue returned. Next they replaced the transmission with only about 75,000 miles. No warning lights or messages about the failure.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 Nissan Altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.
- Consequence: Corrosion to the secondary latch may cause it to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is inadvertently released again and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an Owners Manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 30, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: Recall 16V-029 remains open for any unremedied 2013-2015 Altimas and this recall applies to all vehicles covered by 16V-029 even if those repairs have already been performed.

The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. - Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. If you're having trouble driving in the snow, it's important to learn how to drive your car properly before giving it a bad review. Don't worry, with a little practice, you'll be driving like a pro in no time!

It's a nice and comfortable car with leather seats, navigation, and heated seats. It has a SR SP ED and only 31k miles. The car is in near mint condition and is white in color.

I purchased my 2016 Nissan Altima a year ago with 30k miles on it. It's a stunning car both inside and out, and the fuel economy is excellent. While I feel safe and protected while driving, I do drive a lot and have already put 30k miles on my car in a year. Unfortunately, I have noticed that the driver's seat lacks lumbar support, which has caused me some discomfort. After any extended period of driving, I have to ice and heat my back. It's especially uncomfortable after about 30 minutes, and road trips can be a bit of a challenge. I'm only 21 years old, so experiencing this level of back pain from a car is quite surprising. If this design flaw is addressed, I would have no complaints about this car.

Your Altima is the ultimate driving enjoyment based on its features. It has almost every gadget a car of that year could have to make it a fun ride. On cold days, the heated steering wheel and seats keep you warm as the heater and defroster roast you out. The AC works well as the heater, and the radio systems work well too. The engine provides excellent pickup power, and I was able to avoid a serious accident as a result of how well it responded to the situation. I am well pleased with the body style, handling, and performance of the car.

I recently experienced some trouble with my 2018 Nissan Altima, which I purchased from a small car dealership in Dallas. After two years of trouble-free driving, the check engine light came on with codes P0500 Vehicle Speed Sen A and P1574 ASCD VHL Speed SEN, indicating an issue with the automatic transmission. I took it to a small repair shop, who initially thought it could be the ABS and speed sensor, but then found metal shavings in the transmission oil. Unfortunately, they were unable to help me and suggested I do some online research. Feeling frustrated, I decided to take my car to Courtesy Nissan in Richardson, TX. The staff were very friendly and professional, and although the diagnostic charge was slightly higher than expected, I was happy to pay for a complete written diagnostic from a dealer associated with Nissan manufacturer. After the inspection, I received an automated text message with some recommendations, including one that needed immediate attention tied to the check engine light. The dealership found evidence of rodent damage and suggested pinpoint testing of electrical circuits to determine the extent of the damage, which would cost $522.05. Although I was surprised by this, I maintain a clean house in a good neighborhood with pest control and no rodents. Overall, I appreciate the friendly and professional service I received from Courtesy Nissan, and I am confident that my car is in good hands.Hi there! I came here looking for reviews after purchasing a car. Unfortunately, my experience with this car has not been great. It tends to make loud noises when the road is not smooth, which can be quite frustrating. I have owned several other car brands in the past, including Mercedes, Ford, Pontiac, BMW, Chevy, and Mitsubishi, and I must say that this car has been the least satisfactory. I would advise you to stay away from Nissan.
