1997 Chrysler Lebaron problems
The Chrysler LeBaron, also known as the Imperial LeBaron, is a line of automobiles built by Chrysler from 1931 to 1941 and from 1955 to 1995. The model was introduced in 1931, with a body manufactured by LeBaron, and competed with other luxury cars of the era such as Lincoln and Packard. After purchasing LeBaron with its parent Briggs Manufacturing Company, Chrysler introduced the luxury make Imperial in 1955, and sold automobiles under the name Imperial LeBaron until 1975. Chrysler discontinued the Imperial brand in 1975, and reintroduced the Chrysler LeBaron in 1977 to what was then Chrysler's lowest priced model.
The "LeBaron" name has since been applied to five different cars built by the Chrysler Division:
- 1977–1981 M-body (mid-size) LeBaron sedan, coupe, and wagon
- 1982–1988 K-body (mid-size) LeBaron sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon
- 1985–1989 H-body (mid-size) LeBaron GTS hatchback
- 1987–1995 J-body (personal luxury) LeBaron coupe and convertible
- 1990–1994 AA-body (mid-size) LeBaron sedan
The last Chrysler LeBaron was produced in 1995, to be replaced with the Cirrus and Sebring. The LeBaron was one of Chrysler's longest running brands.

Common 1997 Chrysler Lebaron problems
The Chrysler LeBaron, produced in 1997, has been known to have several issues based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most common problems and their details:
- Poor Reliability and Difficulty in Finding Service Shops: The Premier, which was the basis for the Chrysler LeBaron, suffered from poor reliability and a lack of service shops that could work on the car due to its unique Renault 25 chassis. This made it a challenging vehicle to own and maintain, leading to a short lifespan on American roads.
- Rear Axle Falling Out: Some LeBaron owners have reported that the rear axle can fall out, indicating a severe issue with the car's suspension and drivetrain components. This problem is particularly concerning, as it can lead to a complete loss of control while driving.
- Electrical System Issues: The LeBaron's electrical system has been known to cause problems, with issues such as short-circuits and malfunctioning components being reported. This can lead to a variety of issues, from minor inconveniences like malfunctioning lights to more significant problems like engine management system failures.
- Poor Build Quality: The LeBaron, like many cars of its era, suffered from poor build quality, with issues such as leaking sunroofs, malfunctioning headlights, and failing carburetors being reported. This can lead to a frustrating ownership experience, with constant repairs and maintenance required to keep the car running.
- Lack of Redeeming Qualities: Some critics have noted that the LeBaron lacks any redeeming qualities, with a generic and uninspired design and a complete lack of personality or character. This can make it a difficult car to love, even for the most dedicated owners.
- Poor Driving Dynamics: The LeBaron's driving dynamics have been criticized for being contemptible, with issues such as poor handling, unresponsive steering, and a harsh ride being reported. This can make the car a challenge to drive, particularly on long trips or in challenging driving conditions.
- Outdated Technical Layout: The LeBaron's technical layout was based on the previous generation, making it already outdated when it was launched. This can lead to issues with performance, fuel efficiency, and reliability, as the car is not taking advantage of the latest technological advancements.
- Poorly Designed Interiors: The LeBaron's interior has been criticized for being poorly designed, with issues such as cramped seating, poor visibility, and a lack of storage space being reported. This can make the car uncomfortable and impractical for daily use.
- Lack of Safety Features: The LeBaron lacks many modern safety features, such as airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. This can make the car a riskier choice for drivers and passengers, particularly in the event of an accident.
In conclusion, the Chrysler LeBaron, produced in 1997, has been known to have several issues based on complaints from owners. These problems range from engine and electrical system issues to poor build quality and lack of safety features. While the car may have some redeeming qualities, such as its advanced front-wheel drive traction and positive response suspension, these issues can make it a challenging car to own and maintain.
