The Audi A6 is an executive car made by the German company Audi since 1994. Now in its fifth generation, the successor to the Audi 100 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is available in saloon and estate configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. Audi's internal numbering treats the A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 lineage, with the initial A6 designated as a member of the C4-series, followed by the C5, C6, C7, and the C8. The related Audi A7 is essentially a Sportback (liftback) version of the C7-series and C8-series A6 but is marketed under its own separate identity and model designation.

All generations of the A6 have offered either front-wheel-drive or Torsen-based four-wheel-drive, marketed by Audi as their quattro system. The A6 has also been used as the basis for the company's Allroad models since 1999.

Both petrol and diesel versions of the A6 are offered. The wide range of engines available have power outputs ranging from 150 to 333 PS (110 to 245 kW). These are inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines and more powerful 3-litre units in a V6 configuration with a mechanical compressor.

Common 2009 Audi A6 problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Audi A6 2009, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Oil Consumption Issues: Some Audi A6 2009 models, particularly the earlier 3.0Ts, have been known to experience oil consumption problems. This issue can sometimes be resolved with a PCV replacement and ECU update, but in some cases, it persists. Owners have reported varying experiences, with some cars consuming a significant amount of oil, leading to concerns about engine health and maintenance costs.
  2. Interior Accessories: Complaints have surfaced regarding interior accessory problems in the Audi A6 2009. Owners have noted issues such as broken center console lids and seat back separations. These problems can impact the overall comfort and aesthetics of the vehicle, prompting owners to seek solutions like adhesives or even replacement parts like S6 seats.
  3. Maintenance and Repairs: Owners have highlighted the need for regular maintenance and repairs on the Audi A6 2009. Various components like door lock modules, rear hatch struts, brake lights, vacuum pumps, AC compressors, valve cover gaskets, coolant systems, crossover pipes, flex pipes, and sway bar links have been mentioned. While these issues may not be universal, they indicate a range of potential maintenance requirements that owners have faced.
  4. Transmission Concerns: Although not explicitly mentioned in the provided sources, transmission issues are common in many vehicles, including the Audi A6. Owners of the 2009 model have reported problems with the automatic, CVT, or multitronic gearboxes, including clunky or hesitant gear changes. These issues can impact the driving experience and may require software reprogramming by Audi dealers to address.
  5. Turbo Failures: Another issue reported by Audi A6 2009 owners is turbo failure. Symptoms like blue smoke from the exhaust and whistling noises from the engine can indicate a failing turbo. Replacing the turbo is necessary to resolve this problem and ensure the proper functioning of the vehicle.

These common problems with the Audi A6 2009 highlight the importance of thorough maintenance, timely repairs, and awareness of potential issues to ensure the longevity and performance of the vehicle.

  • Summary: PURCHASED A 2009 AUDI A6 AS MY PRIMARY COMMUTER AND FAMILY VEHICLE. AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PUT SOME ITEMS IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT, THE DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY CLOSE ON MY ARM AND SCRAPED OFF ABOUT 2.5 INCHES OF MY SKIN AROUND MY RIGHT ELBOW. WHAT WORRIED ME MOST WAS THAT I WAS HOLDING MY DAUGHTER, FORTUNATELY ON MY LEFT SIDE, AND MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT HURT. I ALSO HAVE A SON WHICH IS CURRENTLY I LEVEL WITH THE DOOR TRIM AND AM CONSTANTLY WORRIED EVERY TIME I OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR. SOMETHING I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH THE DEALER AND AUDI CORPORATE AND APPARENTLY, THIS IS NOT A BIG ENOUGH ISSUE FOR THEM AT THE MOMENT. ACCORDING TO AUDI, THAT IS THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE AND MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES HAVE SIMILAR TRIMS. ALL I REQUESTED WAS FOR THEM TO SOMEHOW INSTALL SOME EXTRA PADDING ON THE TRIM TO GIVE ME PIECE OF MIND AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD TO LIVE WITH IT. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN. PURCHASING THIS CAR AS MY FAMILY CAR, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEM GETTING HURT EACH TIME THE DOOR OPENS AND CLOSES AND I WANTED TO SHARE THIS INCIDENT TO OTHER AUDI DRIVERS OUT THERE. PLEASE CHECK BOTH YOUR FRONT DOORS CHROME TRIMS AND YOU WILL FIND THAT THE EDGES ARE EXPOSED AND SHARP. *TR

Negative 2009 Audi A6 car reviews

  1. Dalton Gottlieb 2024-04-12

I would like to share my experience with an Audi A-6 Turbo 2009 and the dealership in Ft. Collins. Unfortunately, we have had some issues with the car and the tire warranty was not honored by the dealership. We had to contact Audi North America to resolve the issue. Although we had to pay for 4 new tires out of pocket, Audi did split the cost of a $1500 part that needed to be replaced. Recently, we went back to the dealership for a normal 80K service, which is over an hour drive for us. However, on the way home, the radio stopped working. I would appreciate any advice or recommendations on how to resolve this issue. Thank you for your time and attention.

  2. Benny Olson 2024-03-02

The A6 boasts a beautiful design both inside and out, and offers a great driving experience. While some issues have arisen, such as the need to replace the #5 cylinder coil at 9k miles and carbon buildup causing the check engine light to come on at 10k miles, these were promptly addressed and resolved through reprogramming the on-board computer. Additionally, it is worth noting that Audi's do require regular oil top-ups, but this is a minor inconvenience for the pleasure of driving such a high-quality vehicle. Finally, some creaking in the front suspension has been noted on rough roads, but this is being monitored and addressed as needed. Overall, the A6 is a top-performing car that is sure to impress any driver.

Positive 2009 Audi A6 car reviews

  1. Dillon Willms 2025-01-06

I purchased this car from Schaumburg Audi when it had 75k miles on it. The dealer and their service area have been absolutely awesome. I haven't experienced service levels like theirs in any commercial area for a long, long time. I absolutely love the style of the '08 and '09 A6s. Although I preferred the turbo engine in the '09, I was too cheap to go for it. There are lots of things in this car that make it great fun to drive.

  2. Braden Reynolds 2024-10-24

I have a fully loaded Q7 and I absolutely love it for its size and stunning looks. However, my husband has been wanting another Audi, so we decided to get a fully loaded A6. We couldn't be happier with our decision. After being pleased with Audi, we decided to purchase another one, the R8, for its impressive power. But out of all the cars we own, we like the A6 the best for its looks, power, and all the amazing features it offers, such as Keyless go (which we paid extra to have installed), Navigation, backup camera, sensors, blinds in the back, and a wood steering wheel.

  3. Tito Kassulke 2024-10-21

With this car, you'll feel fully in control as it grips the ground like an ice pick to ice. The growl of the engine just makes you want to go faster and faster. This car is by far better than any BMW out there, thanks to its AWD platform that allows you to make curves like they were straight lines.

  4. Vinnie Swaniawski 2024-10-21

We've had the car for around six months now and it's been the perfect family wagon for us. With enough room for a family of four and a dog, it's been a great fit. On a recent highway trip, we were able to get about 29 mpg, while in mixed driving we've been getting around 25 mpg. As someone who's been a fan of Japanese cars for the last decade, I was looking for something with less maintenance downtime than my previous BMWs. After seeing that Audi's reliability ratings were improving, I felt comfortable giving them a try. So far, we haven't had a single problem with the car. Living in New England, we wanted all-wheel drive, but didn't want a truck. The car has been great in the snow and handles like a sports car on dry pavement.
