The Mazda Tribute (Japanese: マツダ・トリビュート, Matsuda Toribyūto) (Code J14) is a compact SUV made by Japanese automaker Mazda from 2000 to 2011. It was jointly developed with Ford Motor Company and based on the front-wheel drive Mazda 626 platform, which was in turn the basis for the similar Ford Escape on the CD2 platform. The Tribute was priced below the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner in Ford's CD2 SUV lineup.
The Tribute and Escape debuted in 2000, offering front- or all-wheel drive and a choice of a transversely mounted 2.0 L Ford Zetec 4-cylinder engine or 3.0 L Ford Duratec V6. The Ford Escape was also sold as the Ford Maverick in Europe with a Ford 2.0 L I4 Zeta engine with manual transmission, or 3.0 L Duratec coupled to automatic transmission.
One main difference between the Tribute and the Ford Escape/Maverick is that the Tribute's suspension is tuned for a firmer ride than the Escape/Maverick, in order to correspond with Mazda's sporty image. As Mazda had offered "spiced up" models in other segments such as the Mazda3 and CX-7, the utilitarian Tribute was replaced by the more aggressively styled and in-house-designed Mazda CX-5 in North America.

Consumer resubmitted request to Mazda. Consumer states: "This is the responsibility of the manufacturer! This feature·, (Door Ajar) notification is a major preventative safety item that should have an interrupt feature within. It does not! The defect of malfunction, ringing of the chime, is a conscience detraction element that cannot be tolerated continuously!" The consumer stated the cost of repairs will cost $4590 and feels this is the responsibility of the manufacturer.

2006 Mazda Tribute recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2006 Mazda Tribute.
- Manufacturer: Timken Company
- Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING
- Summary: The Timken Company (Timken) is recalling certain aftermarket front wheel bearings, part number 510072, sold from January 22, 2015, to May 21, 2015, to be used as service parts on 2001-2012 Ford Escape, 2001-2011 Mazda Tribute, and 2005-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles. The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
- Consequence: Use of an incorrectly sized wheel bearing can adversely affect the braking and steering of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on May 21, 2015. Owners may contact Timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.
- Manufacturer: MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: Mazda is recalling certain model year 2001 through 2006, and 2008, Tribute vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 engines and speed control. Inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed control cable connector could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost-fully depressed. This risk exists regardless of whether or not speed control (cruise control) is used.
- Consequence: A stuck throttle may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop or slow the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles by increasing the engine cover clearance, free of charge. Remedy parts are now available. The safety recall began on September 13, 2012. Owners may contact Mazda Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-5500, option #6.
- Manufacturer: MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS
- Components: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR
- Summary: ON CERTAIN TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITHOUT GREASE APPLIED TO THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR.
- Consequence: AFTER A PERIOD OF CONTINUOUS USE ON THE HIGH SPEED SETTING, LACK OF GREASE ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR MAY CAUSE THE GEAR TEETH TO DISTORT OR FRACTURE DURING OPERATION RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF WIPER FUNCTION. INOPERATIVE WIPERS UNDER INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS COULD CAUSE A CRASH DUE TO IMPAIRED VISIBILITY.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WIPER MOTOR FOR THE PRESENCE OF GREASE AND GREASE THE WIPER MOTOR GEARS IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 28, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.

I am writing an update to my review of 4 years ago. I still really like my Tribute, and would probably buy another one. I have done all routine maintenance and have had no mechanical issues (knock on wood) and I hope it continues that way.

For the price, it definitely seems like a great choice. I love how fun it is to drive and it's refreshing to not see too many identical ones on the road.

Congratulations on your purchase of a Mazda Tribute in April of '05! Your 4 cylinder base model is pretty loaded up, with power windows and locks, window tint (back windows), AM/FM stereo with CD player, and 16 inch alloy wheels. The truck is very sporty looking for 2005. While it may not have the power of some of its competitors, I'm glad to hear that you're still very happy with your '05 Tribute to date.

I bought my 3.0L 6-cyl. automatic brand new in Oct. 2006 and it has performed really well. I haven't had to take it in for any warranty work so far. However, I did have to replace the tires at 23,783 miles because they were causing a lot of loud road noise that only got worse over time. It turned out that the factory-installed Continental Tires were of poor quality. Once I replaced them, the road noise disappeared completely. Looking back, I wish I had replaced the tires sooner.

My spouse surprised me with this car last week after our old one was on the way out. I was a bit skeptical of a 4-cylinder engine being able to handle my driving needs, but I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely love it! The car handles tight and sporty, yet it feels stable and safe. It also gets great gas mileage - I even got 28 miles per gallon on the highway last week. Although I initially wanted a car with more seating, this is exactly what I needed for day-to-day driving with my family of four.

Nice car! It's a great value and very comfortable. While there are a couple of items that could be improved, such as the poor quality of the clothing hanger (and the fact that there's only one), and the inconvenience of having to remove the antenna with a wrench to go through a car wash, overall it's perfect for road trips and gets good mileage.

To resolve the issue with my car's transmission, I have had three brand new transmissions installed within a period of 6k miles. Despite having all maintenance done on time, the automatic transmission broke down twice after being replaced by the dealer. As a confident solution, I plan to get rid of the car before the warranty expires. What other options do I have?

So far so good! I did notice some tire road noise, but overall I'm really enjoying the ride. I'm not entirely sure about the transmission, and the exhaust needed some repairs, but I still like it a lot. It tows pretty well for a 4 cylinder and the mileage is great!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. While the sticker says it should get 22-26MPG, I'm only getting around 16-17MPG, which is a bit disappointing. I've mentioned this to the dealer, but they've told me that Mazda is revamping their mileage rating system. Hopefully, they'll be able to provide a more accurate rating soon. On a positive note, the car is great for city driving and I'm enjoying it overall. The only issue I've noticed is a slight thud when accelerating from a stop sign. Thanks for listening!
