Mazda Mx-6 problems
The Mazda MX-6 is a front-engine, front-wheel-drive coupé manufactured and marketed by Mazda from 1987 to 1997 across two generations.
Mechanically identical to the Ford Probe, the Capella/626 and its hatchback platform mate, the Ford Telstar, these cars shared the GD (1988–1992) and GE (1993–1997) platforms. The MX-6 replaced the 626 Coupé, although it continued to share the same chassis.
The MX-6, 626, and Ford Probe were manufactured at joint-venture plants either by AutoAlliance in Flat Rock, Michigan, for the North American market, and by Mazda Japan for Asian and European markets.

Are MX6s reliable?
MX6-LS is Very Reliable Car - Still Fun To Drive
Very fun to drive, even after having it for several years. This car handles extremely well, with newer tires. I've kept the maintenance up, replacing the water pump, timing belt, but the engine is very reliable. New brakes and calipers installed at about 110K miles.
What is the common problem with the Mazda 6?
Overheating Engine
Their cooling fan control modules may have gone bad, causing symptoms to show up at around 125,200 miles. Affected Mazda 6 units may also experience air conditioning problems and coolant leaks. Some have shared that steam and coolant may expel from the coolant bay because of overheating.
Is Mazda MX-6 good?
Fun little car!
Classic lines and great power for the price and engine size. Zippy little car that's fun to drive. Get the 4 wheel steering model if you can as it makes turning a breeze.
Are Mazda MX-6 rare?
The MX-6 has gained something of a cult following among car enthusiasts, making them rarer to be found in the wild.

- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- Components: AIR BAGS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: MAZDA MX6 BRAKES ENGAGED WHILE ON A BRIDGE CAUSING THE CAR TO SKID INTO THE CENTER MEDIAN WALL. UPON THE IMPACT MY MOUTH HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND BUSTED MY LIPS OPEN, THE AIRBAG THEN DEPLOYED CAUSING MY HEAD TO BE SLAMMED AGAINST THE HEADREST WHILE A BURST OF HOARD GAGGING SMOKE/DUST, PARTICLES, WERE EMITTED. IN A GASP OF TERROR AND FEAR THAT I MAY DIE FROM SUFFOCATION FROM THE CAR FILLED SMOKE/DUST FROM THE AIRBAG I KICKED THE DRIVER DOOR OPENED AND ROLLED OUT ONTO THE GROUND GASPING FOR AIR AND LAID THERE UNTIL AN AMBULANCE ARRIVED. THE VEHICLE ENGINE ETC. WAS NOT ON FIRE OR SMOKING FROM THIS WRECK. WHILE MY FACIAL INJURIES HEALED, THE DAMAGE TO MY LEFT JAW RESULTED IN A VERY COSTLY SURGERY SEVERAL YEARS LATER OF WHICH DID NOT REPAIR THE JAW AND NOW LIVE WITH DAILY DEBILITATING FACIAL/CRANIAL PAIN. THERE IS A SPECIFIC RANCID SMELL FROM THIS AIRBAG THAT WILL NEVER LEAVE MY MIND AS WELL AS THE TEXTURE OF THE HARD CANVAS LIKE MATERIAL THAT RIPPED THE SKIN OFF MY FACE. THE DEPLOYMENT OF THIS AIRBAG AFTER THE INITIAL IMPACT IS A VIVID IMAGE TO THIS DAY IN 2014. THIS MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE NOT CORRECTED THIS AS MY WRECK WAS IN 1995. *TR

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've actually owned it since January 1996 and I have to say, it's been amazing! With over 134K miles, it's still going strong and has never given me any problems. It's been the perfect car for my twenties and I'm really going to miss it when I have to upgrade to something bigger. But I'll definitely be keeping it around for those fun solo rides. Overall, I have to say it's been the best car buy ever! Thanks for listening.

High mileage, some extra money, but worth every penny. You'll probably want to buy another one after your first year model needs to pass on. It's a splendid vehicle.

This car has been great! It's reliable, fun to drive, and has only needed regular maintenance. Plus, it's a fantastic value for the money. With over 200k miles, my five speed still gets an impressive 30 mpg. Thanks for considering this awesome car!

Japanese cars can be expensive, but they are worth it. Even if you buy domestic, it can be difficult to find a good service department. It's important to find a trustworthy mechanic who won't overcharge you for labor. While parts can be costly, it's worth investing in quality. If you're considering a high-performance foreign car, be prepared to spend a bit more. It's important to make an informed decision and budget accordingly.

Vehicle year: 1996
I bought this car when it was 2 years old with 50k miles and initially, I was very happy with it. However, after owning it for a couple of years, I started experiencing some issues with it overheating. I have replaced several parts including the hoses, water pump, thermometer, and radiator. Unfortunately, the transmission also failed and had to be replaced, only to have it fail again 2 years later. Currently, at 235k miles, I am experiencing overheating issues again and have replaced the hoses and radiator. It seems like I will also have to replace the water pump again. While I wouldn't recommend this car, I have been doing regular maintenance on it. I would love to get another car, but it's not feasible for me at the moment due to the current economic situation. Overall, I regret buying this car, but I have learned that you can't judge a book by its cover!

My MX-6 was a base model 4cyl auto. The transmission failed twice, once at 86k and again at 108k miles. While I enjoyed driving it, I had some reliability issues. If you are considering a car in this sport compact category, you may want to check out an Integra or Cavalier instead. In my experience, they were more reliable.

This car has been reliable for me, although I did have to replace the clutch once and axles twice. The engine, on the other hand, has been absolutely solid with no leaks. However, the interior could have been built better. The door panels are barely hanging on and the fabric is coming off. The driver's seat tends to tear on the left side if used frequently. The center console and cupholder have also experienced some issues. The backseat is quite cramped and may not be comfortable for anyone over 5'5.
Osvaldo Bashirian 2024-06-08
Vehicle year: 1993
This was my first real car, but unfortunately it turned out to be a lemon. Despite putting about 30,000 miles on it since I got it, I've had to replace the engine, transmission, and various other expensive parts. I used to make fun of people with Ford Probes (they share the same parts), but now I understand their frustration. I strongly advise against purchasing this car, as it will only lead to pain, suffering, and a lighter wallet.
