The Mazda MX-6 is a front-engine, front-wheel-drive coupé manufactured and marketed by Mazda from 1987 to 1997 across two generations.

Mechanically identical to the Ford Probe, the Capella/626 and its hatchback platform mate, the Ford Telstar, these cars shared the GD (1988–1992) and GE (1993–1997) platforms. The MX-6 replaced the 626 Coupé, although it continued to share the same chassis.

The MX-6, 626, and Ford Probe were manufactured at joint-venture plants either by AutoAlliance in Flat Rock, Michigan, for the North American market, and by Mazda Japan for Asian and European markets.

I PROCEEDED TO DIRVE AND AGAIN WITHIN SECONDS IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I COULD SEE WHAT LOOKED LIKE SMOKE OR A MIST COMING FROM THE DEFROST VENTS. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN ALL THE WAY HOME WITH ME CONTINUALLY PULLING OFF THE ROAD TO CLEAR THE WINDOWS. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR THREE YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM . I ALSO HAVE NEVER DRIVEN IT DURING AN ICE STORM. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS AND NERVE WRACKING EXPERIENCE AND AM HOPING TO FIND OUT WHAT THE HECK CAUSED THIS. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A 1998 626 AND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO HER ON THE SAME NIGHT.

  • Summary: Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 1989-1998 MPV, 1990-1995 323, 1990-1998 Protege, 1992-1993 MX-3, 1993-1995 929, 1993-1997 MX-6, and 1993-1998 626 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, grease applied to the contact points inside the ignition switch may become conductive and overheat.
  • Consequence: If the ignition switch overheats there would be an increased risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2015. Owners may contact Mazda Customer Experience Center at 1-800-222-5500, option#6. Mazda's number for this recall is 8715J.

    I bought my MX-6 with 88,000 miles on the odometer. It had minor body damage which is being fixed. So far, I have replaced the spark plugs and brake pads. The car looks great and picks up speed effortlessly with the V6. I regularly hit ninety on the highway with no issues. Oh yeah, this car comes with a fantastic stock sound system. Overall, it's a great car with only a few minor issues that I have fixed. I would highly recommend it to any enthusiast driver who likes to cruise.

    I've owned this car for 11 years. After parking it for 5 years, it sat behind the garage without being driven. I replaced a few parts and put in a new battery, but didn't change the oil right away. To my surprise, the car fired up on the first turn of the key and didn't blow any smoke. I replaced a few more things and have been driving it for 3 years now without any problems. What a great car! It was very smooth even at 110mph!

With over 134K miles, it's still going strong and has never given me any problems.     This car combines good visibility and road handling in an attractively priced package. Although it's a car for two, don't expect any comfort on the rear seats. The braking is very precise, with no under or oversteering while braking or accelerating. It has good elasticity around 40-60mph, but it's not great at lower speeds (15-25) where a typical kick down is necessary to switch down the gear and accelerate. However, the electric overdrive is a pleasure to use.
