1995 Lincoln Mark viii problems

lincoln logo

The Lincoln Mark VIII is a grand touring luxury sport coupe that was marketed by Lincoln from the 1993 to 1998 model years. The first generation of the Mark series branded entirely as a Lincoln, the Mark VIII again served as a counterpart of the Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar. Though maintaining its traditional brand rivalry with the Cadillac Eldorado, the Mark VIII was also developed to become more competitive against luxury coupes from automakers around the world.

Replacing the Fox platform of the Mark VII, the Mark VIII was the exclusive model to use the FN10 chassis, a derivative of the MN12 platform developed for the Thunderbird and Cougar. Growing slightly in size (primarily in wheelbase), the Mark VIII was developed with independent suspension for all four wheels; at the time, the only other rear-wheel drive American cars to do so (alongside the Thunderbird and Cougar) were the Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper RT/10. Matching the Cadillac Northstar engine, the Mark VIII was fitted with a dual-overhead cam 4.6L V8, the first Ford Motor Company vehicle fitted with such an engine.

Through its six-year production run, the Mark VIII was manufactured by Ford at its Wixom Assembly Plant (Wixom, Michigan). As of current production, the model line is the final generation of the Mark series and Lincoln has not introduced a direct successor to the model line ever since its 1998 discontinuation.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-05-27
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE VIEW OF THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. MOST OF THE TIME I CANNOT EVEN TELL IF MY HEADLIGHTS ARE ACTUALLY ON WHEN I TURN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. I AM FORCED TO USE MY BRIGHTS JUST TO SEE THE ROAD IN ORDER TO DRIVE SAFELY, BUT THIS IMPAIRS THE VIEW FOR ON COMING TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, CONVERSION KITS AND LABOR ARE EXPENSIVE, AND I SHOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO PAY FOR AN AFTERMARKET MODIFICATION TO UPGRADE MY VEHICLE WHEN THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT VIOLATES THE DRIVER'S SAFETY. IN ADDITION, THE HEADLIGHTS THEMSELVES HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED SO WHEN THEY DO MALFUNCTION FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO PURCHASE THE HEADLIGHT OR AN UPGRADED VERSION. FURTHERMORE, NEWER MARK VIII'S (>1996) HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT HEADLIGHT DESIGN AND DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT PARTS ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE AND APPLYING AN AFTERMARKET HEADLIGHT REQUIRES PRECISION AND EXPENSIVE BODY WORK. *TR

Positive 1995 Lincoln Mark viii car reviews

  1. Arden Walker 2025-01-05

I bought this car as a winter beater to commute to work, but I never expected to fall in love with it! I have owned several Ford collector cars and have had experience with American, Japanese, German, and other cars. This car is amazing at 160,000 miles and it can easily outperform most new cars on the road and give a good run to almost anything else out there. It has an electronic power chip and produces about 350 horsepower while still being fuel-efficient. The glass has 50% black tint, and the new stereo with the original JBL system is excellent. I believe I have another classic car on my hands!

  2. Hipolito Wuckert 2025-01-04

We purchased the car with 18000 miles on it. We now have more than 80000 miles. Several cross country trips in comfort, and a pleasure to drive. However, we have experienced an issue with the rotors on the brakes that continue to chatter and require machine turning. This seems to be a design weakness of Ford. As much as we like this car, we are hesitant to consider any Ford product currently on the market.

  3. Henri Douglas 2025-01-01

The Lincoln Mk VIII marks the end of a glorious line by Ford/Lincoln. It is unfortunate that tastes change and the line was discontinued in 1958, as it is a loss to the automobiling public. My Mark VIII (175,000 miles) is now considered a classic. With its new engine (50,000 miles ago - and not the fault of the car!), it is ready for many thousands more miles of pleasurable driving. Owning a Lincoln is a symbol of class, and owning a Mark is the pinnacle of luxury!

  4. Amari Harris 2024-11-25

This is one of the faster, most comfortable, and reliable luxury sports cars I have ever driven. It's a shame that the Mark VIII was discontinued.

  5. Sidney Pagac 2024-10-28

I bought this car as a daily driver, and I must say, it's one of the nicest cars ever built by any company! The styling, performance, and quality of this vehicle are way beyond anything built before or since. I'm sure this is a classic car in the making. The Cobra engine has 4 camshafts, 32 valves, and port fuel injection, making it untouchable. I would buy another one if they still made them, but you can't kill this bulletproof engine as long as you maintain it.
