Lincoln Mark viii problems
The Lincoln Mark VIII is a grand touring luxury sport coupe that was marketed by Lincoln from the 1993 to 1998 model years. The first generation of the Mark series branded entirely as a Lincoln, the Mark VIII again served as a counterpart of the Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar. Though maintaining its traditional brand rivalry with the Cadillac Eldorado, the Mark VIII was also developed to become more competitive against luxury coupes from automakers around the world.
Replacing the Fox platform of the Mark VII, the Mark VIII was the exclusive model to use the FN10 chassis, a derivative of the MN12 platform developed for the Thunderbird and Cougar. Growing slightly in size (primarily in wheelbase), the Mark VIII was developed with independent suspension for all four wheels; at the time, the only other rear-wheel drive American cars to do so (alongside the Thunderbird and Cougar) were the Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper RT/10. Matching the Cadillac Northstar engine, the Mark VIII was fitted with a dual-overhead cam 4.6L V8, the first Ford Motor Company vehicle fitted with such an engine.
Through its six-year production run, the Mark VIII was manufactured by Ford at its Wixom Assembly Plant (Wixom, Michigan). As of current production, the model line is the final generation of the Mark series and Lincoln has not introduced a direct successor to the model line ever since its 1998 discontinuation.

Common Lincoln Mark viii problems
The Lincoln Mark VIII, produced from 1993 to 1998, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include transmission shudder, air suspension failure, and electrical problems.
- Air Suspension Failure: The air suspension system, which is a common feature in the Lincoln Mark VIII, has been reported to fail over time. The rubber bladders on the air struts dry out and crack, causing the air struts to leak. This issue can be expensive to fix, with about $350 for each front air strut.
- Electrical Problems: The Lincoln Mark VIII has been known to have various electrical problems. These include issues with the blower motor, where squeaking or chirping blower motors are the result of defective brush holders.
In conclusion, while the Lincoln Mark VIII is known for its power, looks, and high line engineering, it has several common problems that potential buyers should be aware of. These issues include transmission shudder, air suspension failure, and electrical problems. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help mitigate these issues, but they can be costly and may affect the overall ownership experience.

I AM FORCED TO USE MY BRIGHTS JUST TO SEE THE ROAD IN ORDER TO DRIVE SAFELY, BUT THIS IMPAIRS THE VIEW FOR ON COMING TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, CONVERSION KITS AND LABOR ARE EXPENSIVE, AND I SHOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO PAY FOR AN AFTERMARKET MODIFICATION TO UPGRADE MY VEHICLE WHEN THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT VIOLATES THE DRIVER'S SAFETY. IN ADDITION, THE HEADLIGHTS THEMSELVES HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED SO WHEN THEY DO MALFUNCTION FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO PURCHASE THE HEADLIGHT OR AN UPGRADED VERSION. FURTHERMORE, NEWER MARK VIII'S (>1996) HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT HEADLIGHT DESIGN AND DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT PARTS ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE AND APPLYING AN AFTERMARKET HEADLIGHT REQUIRES PRECISION AND EXPENSIVE BODY WORK. *TR

Hassle free vehicle with great power and a luxury ride. Why did FORD stop making these cars?
-
Vehicle year: 1993
I was the third owner of this vehicle and bought it in November,1997 from an individual who took excellent care. I enjoy driving this car. The pick up and passing is excellent. Steering and brake are good. The car had 76,000 miles when I bought it and as of 12/06 the powertrain has given me no trouble and drives like new at 240,000 miles.

This is one of the faster, most comfortable, and reliable luxury sports cars I have ever driven. It's a shame that the Mark VIII was discontinued.

Vehicle year: 1996
I bought this car 5 1/2 years ago when it had 30K miles on it. It has been a good car overall, but it has had some reliability issues. Unfortunately, the transmission has been completely rebuilt twice and still isn't working properly. The rear axle was also rebuilt, and brake jobs are needed every 25K miles. The fuel pump also stopped working, and now the air suspension system is leaking, which will cost $2500 to repair. Additionally, there have been some electrical issues such as the heater blower stopping, the door ajar light staying on, and the speakers on the right side not working. Despite all of these flaws, I really love this car and can't bring myself to sell it. My wife and even my mechanic have suggested selling it, but I just can't part with it.

The Lincoln Mk VIII marks the end of a glorious line by Ford/Lincoln. It is unfortunate that tastes change and the line was discontinued in 1958, as it is a loss to the automobiling public. My Mark VIII (175,000 miles) is now considered a classic. With its new engine (50,000 miles ago - and not the fault of the car!), it is ready for many thousands more miles of pleasurable driving. Owning a Lincoln is a sign of class, but owning a Mark is the top of the line!

The styling and fit finish of the Mark 8 are truly awesome! However, I have had some issues with the car, unfortunately. It has had a few problems, such as a blown head gasket and issues with the steering column. The repairs have been quite costly, but I am hopeful that the car will continue to improve. On the bright side, my Buick Ultra v6 is faster than the Mark 8, running a 14.72 quarter mile, and my Buick Park Ave runs a 14.38 quarter mile. I am keeping my fingers crossed that no other issues arise, but I am confident that I will be able to handle them if they do. Thank you for your understanding!

This car's design has room for improvement. The caps to the coils are splitting after 76K miles, which requires the entire coil to be replaced due to a design defect and a $5.00 part. Additionally, the car occasionally experiences issues with starting. However, after 2 days of not starting, on the 3rd day, it functioned perfectly as if nothing was ever wrong.

The transmission went at 45Ktires, and as a result, the alternator, struts, pumps, sensors, and batteries also needed to be replaced.

Combination of features and performance with this vehicle is great! The exterior appearance still looks fresh and the interior ergonomics are perfect, making it very comfortable for highway traveling. Despite what others say, the car tracks well in winter conditions. Overall, the LSC trim package transforms this car into a luxurious version of the Mustang Cobra. I receive lots of compliments on the vehicle from strangers.
Chet Cassin 2024-02-28
Vehicle year: 1998
The engine cutting out without warning has been a persistent issue, despite the replacement of the coils. This problem has worsened to the point where the vehicle is unable to be driven for more than three weeks without the same issue reoccurring. Legal action has been taken and the dealer has agreed to buy back the vehicle. It is worth noting that this fault is common with this model. Additionally, the telescoping steering wheel has been a constant issue, with replacements only lasting a month. Another constant problem has been the fuel cap not releasing.
