The Continental is the final American vehicle line with a factory-produced V12 engine (1948), the final four-door convertible (1967), and the final model line to undergo downsizing (for the 1980 model year).
American production of the Continental and MKZ, its only two sedans, ended in 2020 thereby making Lincoln a crossover/SUV-only brand in the USA. After it was discontinued in Lincoln's home market, Ford indicated that it planned to move Continental production to China.

BRAKES WERE APPLIED, AND THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT NEAR FULL POWER, AND THE DRIVER HAD TO APPLY BREAKS HARD TO SLOW, AND PULL OFF HIGHWAY. ATTEMPTS TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL RESULTED IN THE TRANSMISSION WANTING TO GO INTO REVERSE INSTEAD OF NEUTRAL. ONCE OFF THE ROAD, THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN. WHEN RESTARTED, IT WAS STILL STUCK AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO UNSTICK FAILED. AFTER IT REMAINED OFF A SHORT TIME, AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL OPERATED, IT RETURNED TO NORMAL. A SHORT TIME LATER WHILE TESTING IN THE PARKING LOT, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL, AS THE ISSUE APPEARED TO BE ELECTRONIC IN NATURE, AS THE OPERATION OF THE THROTTLE CABLE WITH THE VEHICLE OFF SHOWED NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SORT OF STICKINESS OR UNUSUAL RESISTANCE. CRUISE CONTROL UNIT WAS UNPLUGGED, AND THE VEHICLE TESTED. THE PROBLEM DID NOT RECUR AT THIS TIME. I DROVE IT HOME LATER THAT NIGHT IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO A SHOP TO EVALUATE DAMAGE CAUSED WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO AVOID ACCIDENT, AND SEE IF A ROOT CAUSE CAN BE DETERMINED. AS THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENTS OF THIS TYPE I BELEIVE IT MAY BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED AND A RECALL ISSUED, REGARDLESS OF AGE, AS THIS COULD CAUSE ADDITIONAL INJURIES OR FATALITIES.

DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THE AIRBAG MODULE WAS REPLACED. IT TOOK APPROX. 7 MONTHS TO GET FORD TO BUY BACK THE CAR. THEY WERE UNDOUBTEDLY AWARE THEY COULD COUNT ON MY CAVING AFTER MAKING PREMIUM PAYMENTS AND INSURANCE FOR ALMOST A YEAR ON A CAR THAT WAS NOT FIT TO DRIVE. AS SOON AS I HIRED AN ATTORNEY THEY DUG THEIR HEELS IN FARTHER. I SETTLED JUST TO GET THE LEMON OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AND TO FREE UP MY FUNDS TO GET ANOTHER CAR. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HANDLED MY SITUATION VERY UNPROFESSIONALLY AND WITH NO REGARD TO MY SAFETY. AT THIS POINT I WOULD ONLY HOPE THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO REGISTER THIS VEHICLE FOR RESALE WITH A RECORD OF THE DEFECTS AND NOT SIMPLY A BUY BACK WITH NO EXPLANATION.

LINCOLN/MERC DEALER REPLACED ONE BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE ANOTHER. CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS THE DAMAGE IS DUE TO "DRIVER CARELESSNESS" AND REFUSES TO REPLACE. THIS ITEM IS EXTREMELY FRAGILE AND HAS NO "GIVE". THE DEALER AT FIRST STATED THAT "THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM" WITH THE CONTINENTAL BUT NOW STATES IT IS THE "CUSTOMERS FAULT". THE DEALER ALSO STATES THAT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE COULD OCCUR OF IT IS NOT REPLACED BECAUSE IT DIRECTS THE AIR THROUGH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WE HAVE PERSONALLY INSPECTED OTHER LINCOLN VEHICLES AND NUMEROUS HAVE THE EITHER COMPLETELY MISSING OR DAMAGE AIR DAMS. IT APPEARS THIS IS A QUICK $ 80.00 PROFIT FOR THE COMPANY THAT COULD BE EASILY FIXED USING SOFTER MATERIAL. *NLM

- Summary: Bosch Brake Components LLC (Bosch) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement front brake pads, models Bosch QuietCast BC598 and BP765, Bosch Blue BE598 and BE598H, Prostop PD598 and PD765M, Duralast Gold DG598, Duralast MKD598, Stop Master ST598, UltraStop ULT598, UltraLife MX598 and MX765, BrakeBest MKD765, and Prostop Platinum PGD598. These brake pads, manufactured October 1, 2014, to October 31, 2015 are intended for use on 2001-2007 Ford Taurus, 2001-2005 Mercury Sable, 1995-1999 Ford Taurus SHO, 1995-2002 Lincoln Continental, and 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII vehicles. The brake pad shim may shift out of position causing the shim to contact the brake disc resulting in damage to the disc.
- Consequence: A damaged or broken brake disc may reduce a vehicle's braking power, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Bosch will instruct the owners how to have the affected brake pads replaced, free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2016. Owners may contact Bosch customer service at 1-888-715-3616.

In the past 10 years, I have owned Lincoln Town cars. Recently, I decided to switch to a slightly smaller car and chose the Lincoln Continental. I am happy to say that it has met and exceeded my expectations. Although I do miss my Town car, this car handles better, albeit with a minor loss of comfort. However, I can easily adjust things to fit my personal needs.

I've been test driving every make and model for the last 4 months, and I have to say, nothing compares to the Continental. Acura, Lexus, BMW, Audi, Volvo, etc. all seem to blend together with their similar interiors and boxy exteriors. It's like they're all just generic sedans with different nameplates. The Continental, on the other hand, is different. It has plenty of room, luxury, drivability, sportiness, and a unique American style all its own. It's a shame that no marketing genius has capitalized on the Continental's uniqueness.

Although there were some initial issues with this car, I can confidently say that they have been resolved. The vibrations were stopped and the car is now much more comfortable to drive. While there is still some road noise, it is not a significant issue. Overall, I am satisfied with the resolution of the problems and would consider purchasing a Lincoln again in the future.
