2009 Lexus Ls460 problems

The Lexus LS (Japanese: レクサス・LS, Hepburn: Rekusasu LS) is a full-size luxury sedan (F-segment in Europe) serving as the flagship model of Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. For the first four generations, all LS models featured V8 engines and were predominantly rear-wheel-drive. In the fourth generation, Lexus offered all-wheel-drive, hybrid, and long-wheelbase variants. The fifth generation changed to using a V6 engine with no V8 option, and only one length was offered.
As the first model developed by Lexus, the LS 400 debuted in January 1989 with the second generation debuting in November 1994. The LS 430 debuted in January 2000 and the LS 460/LS 460 L series in 2006. A domestic-market version of the LS 400 and LS 430, badged as Toyota Celsior (Japanese: トヨタ・セルシオ, Hepburn: Toyota Serushio), was sold in Japan until the Lexus marque was introduced there in 2006. In 2006 (for the 2007 model year), the fourth generation LS 460 debuted the first production eight-speed automatic transmission and an automatic parking system. In 2007, V8 hybrid powertrains were introduced on the LS 600h/LS 600h L sedans.
Development of the LS began in 1983 as the F1 project, the code name for a secret flagship sedan. At the time, Toyota's two existing flagship models were the Crown and Century models – both of which catered exclusively for the Japanese market and had little global appeal that could compete with international luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar. The resulting sedan followed an extended five-year design process at a cost of over US$1 billion, and premiered with a new V8 engine and numerous luxury features. The Lexus LS was intended from its inception for export markets, and the Lexus division was formed to market and service the vehicle internationally. The original LS 400 debuted to strong sales, and was largely responsible for the successful launch of the Lexus marque.
Since the start of production, each generation of the Lexus LS has been manufactured in the Japanese city of Tahara, Aichi. The name "LS" stands for "Luxury Sedan", although some Lexus importers have preferred to define it as "Luxury Saloon". The name "Celsior" is taken from Latin word "celsus", meaning "lofty" or "elevated".

Common 2009 Lexus Ls460 problems
The Lexus LS460, particularly the 2009 model, has several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is a Cylinder 6 misfire, which can be caused by a faulty ignition coil or worn-out spark plugs
. This problem can result in a flashing check engine light and a noticeable decrease in power, even at highway speeds. The misfire might be due to issues with the direct injectors located under the intake manifold, which can affect the engine's performance and fuel efficiency
Another common problem with the Lexus LS460 is related to the heater door actuator, which may need replacement
. This issue can affect the car's climate control system, leading to uncomfortable temperatures inside the vehicle.
The 2009 Lexus LS460 has also been reported to have problems with its brake actuator, which can cause a clicking or knocking sound during braking. This issue can lead to a decrease in braking performance and may require a replacement of the brake actuator or related components.

I have been driving Lincolns for 16 years, and I must say that the LS460 is the most amazing car I have ever owned. The improvements over the LS430 are many, and the state of the art in this car is nearly perfect. I cannot find any faults with it. It performs flawlessly, the power is awesome, and it is quiet like a tomb. The comfort level is nearly dangerous, and the features are extraordinary. Everything works to perfection. I am particularly pleased with the Hard Drive for storing music on board, and the ability to play DVDs through the navigation screen with the car in park. It is perfect for waiting to pick up the grandkids. I give the car 2 resounding thumbs up!

I'm so glad to hear that you found the perfect used car! It sounds like you did your research and made a great choice with a Lexus. It's wonderful to hear that you've had such a positive experience with it so far, and that the engine runs smoothly and powerfully. The LS 460 may not be the flashiest car out there, but it definitely turns heads and sounds like it has everything you were looking for in terms of style, comfort, and dependability.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Lexus LS models. This is actually my third one! My first one from '97 is still going strong with 235,000 miles on it, and my '05 was unfortunately totaled but I loved it so much that I would probably still be driving it today. My current '09 model performs great, with a highway mileage of 25mpg and it's fantastic in the snow. The only downside is that the shocks can be a bit pricey at $1100 each with the air ride and sport suspension package. At 145000 miles, I had to replace the radiator, thermostat, and a CV Boot. However, I didn't have to replace the radiator on my '97 LS400 until it hit 240,000 miles! I did notice that the cabin of the 460 can be a bit noisy and there's a whine that's apparent, but the dealer assured me that it's not the transmission. I did have an issue with the interior, but Lexus was kind enough to pay for the fix eventually. Thanks for listening!

Your 2008 Lexus LS460 is still going strong with all scheduled maintenance performed.

Congratulations on your 6th Lexus! It's great to hear that it's performing well and is reliable, just like your previous ones. Despite its size, it's impressive that you're still getting good fuel economy, with 28-29 mpg on your regular highway journeys and around 24mpg mixed around town and highway. While the park assist steering may be a bit complicated to set up and slow to respond, it's still a fun feature to have. Overall, the Lexus is a luxurious car that provides a quiet and enjoyable ride, especially with the extra rear legroom for passengers. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I have owned my car for over 4 years now. I bought it at 60k miles and it now has 146k miles. It has been a great car, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with the front suspension. I have had my fair share of BMW ownership as well, but my Lexus has topped BMW in repair bills. I have put over $5K just in suspension work and no, this car has never been in any accident. I am disappointed that the legendary reliability of Lexus seems to be only a legend with this car. Even the dealership acknowledges the inherent issue. I hope Lexus will take responsibility for this and improve their quality. The interior of the car has started to melt in the Houston TX heat, which is a known issue with Toyotas. Lexus has refused to fix 2008 and onward models, and they are only doing the recall on 2007 LS460. I am disappointed with this, but I know that Lexus makes good cars. Despite my negative experience with the LS460, I decided to purchase a GX460.

Now that I have had this car for 2 1/2 years, I wanted to share an updated review. While I have had a few minor quality-related issues since my last review, including paint chips on the front of the car and a blown out speaker in my Levinson stereo, I still appreciate the overall experience of owning a Lexus. As a long-time Lexus owner, I had high expectations for uncompromising quality and durability, but I understand that sometimes issues can arise. I am confident that any future repairs will be handled with the same level of care and attention that I have come to expect from Lexus. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.
