2008 Lexus Ls460 problems

The Lexus LS (Japanese: レクサス・LS, Hepburn: Rekusasu LS) is a full-size luxury sedan (F-segment in Europe) serving as the flagship model of Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. For the first four generations, all LS models featured V8 engines and were predominantly rear-wheel-drive. In the fourth generation, Lexus offered all-wheel-drive, hybrid, and long-wheelbase variants. The fifth generation changed to using a V6 engine with no V8 option, and only one length was offered.
As the first model developed by Lexus, the LS 400 debuted in January 1989 with the second generation debuting in November 1994. The LS 430 debuted in January 2000 and the LS 460/LS 460 L series in 2006. A domestic-market version of the LS 400 and LS 430, badged as Toyota Celsior (Japanese: トヨタ・セルシオ, Hepburn: Toyota Serushio), was sold in Japan until the Lexus marque was introduced there in 2006. In 2006 (for the 2007 model year), the fourth generation LS 460 debuted the first production eight-speed automatic transmission and an automatic parking system. In 2007, V8 hybrid powertrains were introduced on the LS 600h/LS 600h L sedans.
Development of the LS began in 1983 as the F1 project, the code name for a secret flagship sedan. At the time, Toyota's two existing flagship models were the Crown and Century models – both of which catered exclusively for the Japanese market and had little global appeal that could compete with international luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar. The resulting sedan followed an extended five-year design process at a cost of over US$1 billion, and premiered with a new V8 engine and numerous luxury features. The Lexus LS was intended from its inception for export markets, and the Lexus division was formed to market and service the vehicle internationally. The original LS 400 debuted to strong sales, and was largely responsible for the successful launch of the Lexus marque.
Since the start of production, each generation of the Lexus LS has been manufactured in the Japanese city of Tahara, Aichi. The name "LS" stands for "Luxury Sedan", although some Lexus importers have preferred to define it as "Luxury Saloon". The name "Celsior" is taken from Latin word "celsus", meaning "lofty" or "elevated".

I waited until my 5000 mile service to evaluate. This car makes me feel like I'm sitting in the lap of luxury! The wind noise issues are being taken care of with new side window glass later this week. The biggest negative is that the navigation system features are rendered virtually useless while driving. It is silly to have to stop the car in order to find a nearby restaurant choice or gas station. This should be allowed.

We purchased this car used in August 2013 with 66k miles on it. Since then, we have put 6k miles on it and have not experienced any issues. In addition to this car, we also own an 02 LS430 with 112k miles on it, and the only issue we have had was with the driver window regulator. Compared to the 7 BMWs and one MB S class we have previously owned, this car is much more reliable. It is incredibly quiet and gets great mileage on the highway. The Mark Levinson sound system in my 08 is much better than the ML sound in the 02, and the stereo is absolutely fantastic! Another great feature is that it has a chain-driven timing belt, so there is no need to replace the timing belt like in the previous generation. I highly recommend this car. As of February 2018, the car is still running smoothly at 82000 miles. The only issue we have had is with the vinyl used on the dash and doors. The driver door armrest has cracks in it, and all the vinyl gets sticky when exposed to the sun. Although the 2007 models had a recall for this issue, the 08 models did not. I hope Lexus will address this issue for the 08 models as well. Please check online for complaints about this issue.

The car has experienced brake issues and has been to the repair shop three times in under two years, which is unacceptable for a vehicle with a price tag of $75,000.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2008 LS460, which happens to be my 3rd Lexus. I must say, once you have one of these, it's hard to drive anything else! The ride is so smooth, and the power is just amazing. I also love the Premium sound system, and the gas mileage is simply incredible. With a 22-gallon tank, I can go up to 523 miles on a road trip! One thing I really appreciate is that they have gone to a timing chain instead of a belt. However, I do have a couple of complaints. The sealed transmission makes it impossible to check it yourself, and the quality of vinyl used on the dash consoles and door panels is not up to par. Unfortunately, it got sticky and cracked prematurely. On the other hand, my 2001 LS430 has no cracks, and they park right next to each other. Thanks for listening!

I have owned or driven various cars such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Acura, Lincoln, Cadillac etc. and in my experience, Lexus stands out as the most luxurious, smooth riding and reliable car, not to mention a great value. Lexus vehicles may not be flashy, but they have a conservative, luxurious presence that exudes quality.

This car has been taken on two long trips, to Washington, DC and Florida, accumulating 4000 miles. While it does get good gas mileage of 29 miles on the highway, there is significant wind noise at highway speeds. Additionally, it feels lighter on the road compared to my earlier 1994 model LS 400. However, it is important to note that personal preferences for driving experience may vary. Thank you for considering this review.
