In 2006 (for the 2007 model year), the fourth generation LS 460 debuted the first production eight-speed automatic transmission and an automatic parking system. In 2007, V8 hybrid powertrains were introduced on the LS 600h/LS 600h L sedans.
Development of the LS began in 1983 as the F1 project, the code name for a secret flagship sedan. At the time, Toyota's two existing flagship models were the Crown and Century models – both of which catered exclusively for the Japanese market and had little global appeal that could compete with international luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar. The resulting sedan followed an extended five-year design process at a cost of over US$1 billion, and premiered with a new V8 engine and numerous luxury features. The Lexus LS was intended from its inception for export markets, and the Lexus division was formed to market and service the vehicle internationally. The original LS 400 debuted to strong sales, and was largely responsible for the successful launch of the Lexus marque.
Since the start of production, each generation of the Lexus LS has been manufactured in the Japanese city of Tahara, Aichi. The name "LS" stands for "Luxury Sedan", although some Lexus importers have preferred to define it as "Luxury Saloon". The name "Celsior" is taken from Latin word "celsus", meaning "lofty" or "elevated".

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Lexus LS vehicles manufactured May 9, 2006, to July 20, 2010, 2006-2011 Lexus GS vehicles manufactured January 6, 2005, to September 10, 2010, and 2006-2011 Lexus IS vehicles manufactured August 30, 2005, to September 10, 2010. Due to anti-corrosion plating remnants, fuel may leak from where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will clean and reseal the fuel pressure sensor mounting area, free of charge. The recall began March 3, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

This car has been very dependable over the past year. However, the side wind noise can be quite bothersome, and unfortunately, Lexus has stated that it is a design issue that cannot be resolved until the 2011 model year. Additionally, the navigation system's complete lockout of nearly every feature while in motion renders it almost useless. It may be more worthwhile to consider purchasing a Garmin instead.

This is my second Lexus, and I have owned several cars previously. I must say, this is probably the best car I've ever purchased. The only flaw I have noticed is the input control on the nav system, which requires the car to be stopped. Perhaps there could be a way to design the system so that if the passenger seat is occupied, the passenger would be able to operate the system. Just a thought. Overall, it is a very nice and enjoyable vehicle to drive.

Luxurious car. Great ride, quiet as a tomb and comfortable. Fit and finish is great. Although, it's best not to roll down the rear windows at highway speeds as it can cause some noise and interior vibrations. The sound system and power door locking system are fantastic. While the navigation system cannot be added to or changed while you are moving, it's still a great feature. However, my wife has an Acura with a much better nav system.

My second LS, and I must say, I am quite satisfied with the overall performance and comfort. At this time, I have only driven 1600 miles and have not experienced any issues with wind noise. I average 21 miles in the city and 28 on the highway. The only thing I regret is not getting the Mark Levinson system.

This car has been taken on two long trips, to Washington, DC and Florida, accumulating 4000 miles. While it does get good gas mileage of 29 miles on the highway, there is significant wind noise at highway speeds. Additionally, it feels lighter on the road compared to my earlier 1994 model LS 400. However, it is important to note that personal preferences for driving experience may vary. Thank you for considering this review.
